November 2014 Thank you to all the parents and students that made time to come to our “progress conversations” on October 23rd. Discussions between students-parents-teachers around learning are vitally important. I appreciate the efforts parents made to ensure their child was in attendance for these conversations. Our “artist in the school” residency is underway at the school. Our resident this year is KC Adams who specializes in the visual arts—specifically clay pottery. Each class will spend about 2 hours with KC, learning the basic of pottery and building their own creation. Her last day at TES will be November 14th. Welcome to our 2 newest staff members: Carli Conway and Stacie Tait. Carli has been hired to teach grade 6 Math and ELA. Stacie is our new guidance counselor, and will be teaching some early years math as well. We are very excited to have them join our team, and are looking forward to their contributions to our school community. Thank you to Mrs.Makowski, Ms.Groenweg, and all of the TEPAC volunteers that helped make our book fair a huge success. I believe the goal of this event is to expose families to a wide variety of materials they can use to increase their child’s literacy. It was refreshing to see so many families connecting around books, graphic novels, magazines, etc. This is a primary goal for our school—to help students develop literacy skills that will allow them to be successful in life. This starts at home, and is built on in school. Please take the time to develop literacy skills with your child at home. It doesn’t take a lot of time, and the benefits will last a lifetime. Manitoba Education has developed an excellent resource to help assist parents: “Helping your child learn to read”. It can be downloaded at: http://www.edu.gov.mb.ca/k12/docs/parents/learn/read.html For upcoming school events, staff listing, calendar, etc please check out our website http://www.isd21.mb.ca/te/ and follow us on Twitter—@teulonk6 Have a great November.
