Jerry was born Nov. 1, 1958, in Fort Dodge, to James and Aileen Laubenthal. On Aug. 26, 1983, he married Tammy Cline and they had one daughter together, Brandy Michelle. They later divorced. Jerry then met Sarah Dyer and her infant daughter, Ashley. Jerry and Sarah had a long relationship and he raised Ashley as his own daughter. Jerry worked for KPI for over 13 years. He loved to ride and spend time with his horses. He also enjoyed spending time at the shooting range, playing chess, reading, playing cards, watching the sunsets and traveling to California to see his daughter Brandy. He loved the hot Southern California weather. Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law, Brandy and Jason Jackson of Palm Springs, CA; Brandy’s mother, Tammy Laubenthal of Ottumwa; his sister and brother-in-law, Kim and Lloyd McGallion of Bacliff, TX; his special daughter, Ashley Dyer of Cedar Rapids; Ashley’s mother, Sarah Dyer, also of Cedar Rapids; aunts and cousins. Jerry also left behind many special friends including two very special friends, Tiyger Lee and Scott Rhodes. He was preceded in death by his parents and his best friend, David Reynolds.
