Born July 4, 1929, in Lee County, she was the daughter of Albert and Celestena Lenz. On Sep. 24, 1966, she married Harold Edward Prottsman in New London. He died April 6, 1988. Mrs. Prottsman was an employee at Wells Lamont Glove Co. until 1948 and held various clerical and secretarial positions at Iowa-Illinois Telephone Co. in New London until 1991. She attended New London schools and graduated in 1946. She was a member of the New London United Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday School for many years, a lifetime member of Disabled American Veterans, a member of the New London VFW Post 7641 Auxiliary and a lifetime member of the Telephone Pioneers. She enjoyed word puzzles, television game shows, “General Hospital,” lunch with her telephone co-workers and spending time with family and friends. Survivors include one daughter, Patrice Miller; one sisterin-law, Ramona Prottsman; two granddaughters; and several nieces and nephews. Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, two brothers and one sister-in-law. The funeral service for Mrs. Prottsman will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Elliott Chapel in New London, with Pastor David Mixon officiating. Burial will be in Burge Cemetery in rural New London. He died Dec. 2, 1997. Mrs. Parmeter was a homemaker and enjoyed taking care of her family. She was a member of Zion United Church of Christ. In 1943, he married Shirley Weinrich. They divorced. In 1949, he married Marjorie Brown. They divorced. In 2001, he married Georgia Schmeiser. They divorced. Mr. Wilson owned and operated Wilson Well Drilling for 43 years, then enjoyed driving a tour bus for Trailways for seven years. He graduated from Yarmouth High School, served in the Army during World War II and was a member of West Hill United Methodist Church. He served as a scoutmaster for Boy Scout Troop 67 from 1956 to 1965. Survivors include two sons, Dennis Wilson and Mark Wilson, both of Burlington; four daughters, Connie Ammon of Burlington, Shelly Parsons of Dodgeville, Chris Nelson of Gladstone, Illinois, and Cathy Rauhaus of Mediapolis; 11 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren. She graduated from Burlington High School in 1954. She enjoyed singing in the church choir, bowling, playing cards, going for walks with her grand-dogs and attending her grandchildren’s sporting events. Survivors include two sons, J.T. Fort Madison Patrick Lucey, former Wisconsin governor Associated Press MILWAUKEE — Former Wisconsin Gov. Patrick Lucey, a hardnosed Democratic politician who later became the U.S. ambassador to Mexico, has died. He was 96. Lucey, who also ran for vice president of the United States as an independent in 1980, died Saturday night at the Milwaukee Catholic Home after a brief Illness, said his son, Paul Lucey, of Milwaukee. He said funeral arrangements are pending. “Governor Lucey was a dedicated public servant who loved Wisconsin,” Republican Gov. Scott Walker said in a statement. He called it “a particular joy” to be with him last summer for the 40th anniversary of the Kikkoman Foods Inc. soy sauce plant in Fontana. Patrick Lucey was elected governor in 1970 and won re-election in 1974, but he left midway through his second term to serve as then-President Jimmy Carter’s ambassador to Mexico. In Wisconsin, he will perhaps be remembered most for pushing to merge the University of Wisconsin in Madison with the state college system, a fierce battle that created today’s system of 13 fouryear state colleges. Lucey was born in La Crosse, Wisconsin, in 1918. He worked as a grocery store manager from 1937 until 1940 and served in World War II in the Caribbean. He was elected to the state assembly in 1948 and became executive director and later chairman of the state Democratic Party. He served as lieutenant governor in 1966. In 1980, Lucey became independent John Anderson’s running mate in a failed bid to defeat Carter and Republican Ronald Reagan, who won the election. Lucey continued to remain active in politics and every bit as opinionated well into his 90s.
