Janice Curley-McCoy Howard Derby Janice Lynn Curley-McCoy, 57, of Burlington died at 11:12 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 24, 2013, at Great River Hospice House in West Burlington. Born Dec. 22, 1956, in Burlington, she was the daughter of James Louis and Shirley Eastburn Curley. On Nov. 3, 1995, she married Marvin McCoy Sr. in Burlington. He died Aug. 6, 1996. Mrs. Curley-McCoy was a Burlington High School graduate. She worked at Skerik Auto Parts and helped her husband in his construction business, McCoy Construction. For the last 17 years, she was a dredge operator at Cessford Construction, where she loved going to work. She loved being outdoors, being in the water, swimming and time spent on the river. She was an avid Cubs and Bears fan. She loved her pets and spending time with her family. Derby, 93, of Dubuque, lifelong resident of Burlington, died Monday, Dec. 23, 2013, at Mercy Medical CenterDubuque. Born Jan. 20, 1920, in Harper, he was the son of Charles and Christine Saner Derby. On July 17, 1951, he married Mary Ruth Stuart in Lynnville. Mr. Derby helped with farming at a young age and worked with the Iowa State Department of Transportation. He enjoyed gardening, especially vegetable gardening, and solving puzzles. He was an Iowa Hawkeyes fan. Born on January 9, 1958 in Burlington, Iowa, Dan was the son of Paul H. and Shirley I. Hanson Hoschek. He was of the Protestant Faith. Dan was a graduate of Notre Dame High School class of 1976 and attended Estherville College. He played football in high school and college. Dan worked for the Iowa Department of Correctional Services at the men’s Residential Facility for 24 years. He owned and operated a cleaning business, and was active in the Farmer’s Market in produce sales. He liked to work in the yard and garden. Dan also enjoyed hunting and fishing. Over the years Dan had many dogs; his favorites were Daisy and Ella. Dan is survived by his wife Joyce of Burlington who recently celebrated 13 years together. She worked as an employee of the Minnis’ family until her retirement from the grain company in 1984. Mrs. Crist was among other things, a dedicated employee; member of the Morning Sun Methodist Church and the TT Club. During her younger years she loved to garden, dance, shop flea markets, collect teapots and was an avid card player. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and was fiercely loyal to her family. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, C.
