Florine M. "Hootie" Owens
PEORIA - Florine M. "Hootie" Owens, 67, of Peoria passed away at 5:05 a.m. on Sunday, Oct. 31,
2010, at Methodist Medical Center.
She was born on May 11, 1943, in Argyle, Mo., to William P. and Anna M. Hilke Reinkemeyer. She
married Richard L. Owens on Nov. 23, 1963, in Argyle, Mo. He passed away on Sept. 14, 2003, in
Peoria.
She was also preceded in death by her parents, two brothers and one sister.
Hootie acquired her nickname from when she was very young. She would climb up a tree that was in
her yard and sing. Her older brothers would tease her, saying she was singing like a "hoot owl." The
name Hootie stuck and her entire hometown of Argyle was soon calling her Hootie.
Hootie enjoyed going to movies and playing cards with friends, sewing, crocheting, having the family
over for dinners, celebrations and holidays but most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her
grandson, Jack.
Hootie is survived by two sons, Richard Jr. (Beth) Owens of Dunlap and Dennis (Shari) Owens of
Chillicothe; one grandson, Jack Owens; two brothers, Vincent (Mary Jane) Reinkemeyer of Meta, Mo.,
and Fred (Betty) Reinkemeyer of Brazito, Mo.; two sisters, Dolores Gayle of Portland, Ore., and Laura
Knight of Richland, Wash.; and one sister-in-law, Rosella Reinkemeyer of St. Thomas, Mo.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 4, 2010, at Wright & Salmon Chapel with Pastor Tom Thomas
officiating. Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. on Wednesday and 30 minutes before the services. Entombment will be in Resurrection
Mausoleum.
Memorial contributions may be made to OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice Home, 2265 W. Altorfer Drive, Peoria, IL 61615,
www.osfhomecare.org.

Rick and Dennis, I am so glad I had a chance to see both of
you and your mom in Argyle this past summer. I had hoped
to come to Peoria and visit in November. You mom was a
very special person and she will always be in my prayers.

I am very grateful to have Hootie as the other Grandma and
the mother in law of my child. She treated Shari as one of
her own. I appreciated that so much. She was one of the
most courageous women that I have ever met.

moved in to Brookforrest Ln. she made me feel so special.

Hootie was a friend of ours for many years. We met her
through my sister, Mary Lou Taylor, who was a
friend/neighbor of Hootie & Dick for many years. We only
saw her once in a great while, but she will be missed. I will
miss getting e-mails from her. Our deepest condolences to
her family.

It was easy to call Hootie a friend and she had many. After
