Change Invoice Number or Other Transactions in
QuickBooks Online
To set up, change or reset the numbers on transaction forms, you should turn on custom
transactions numbers. Perform the following steps provided by QuickBooks support.





At the left click gear icon and then go to account and settings.
From the menu on the left-hand side click sales.
Click on edit icon under sales form content.
Tick the box beside custom transaction numbers.
Hit the save button.
The following sales forms will be affected, if you enable custom transaction numbers will affect:

Estimate/Quotes
Invoices
Sales Receipts
Credit memos/Adjustment Note
Refund receipts
Charges
Credits
Change the setting in a different place to enable custom transaction forms on purchase orders:





Click the gear icon located on the left side and then account & settings.
From the menu on the left click on expenses.
Go the purchase order section and hit the edit icon.
Tick the box for custom transaction numbers.
Hit the save button and then click done.
To have numbers & letters or just numbers, you can now change your transaction numbers. A
new number in the sequence will be auto-populated by the new transactions. If the numbering
is changed on only one of the form types, other sales forms will take on the same numbering
sequence. For example:


User changed invoices only to: AT101
Estimates, credit memos, and the rest of the forms will follow same sequence: AT101,
AT102, and so on.
If on each transaction type, you change the numbering form, they will hold the new number
and run in sequence for that type of transaction:
For example:

Invoices: I-1001, I-1002, etc.
Estimates: AT101, AT102, etc.
Sales Receipts: 5001, 5002, etc.
The same rule applies to credit memos, refund receipts, charges, and credits.
