Mary Lynne Napier, 44, London, Ky., passed away
Friday, April 27, 2012, at the University of Kentucky
Medical Center, Lexington, Ky.
Born July 24, 1967 in Somerset, Ky., she was the
daughter of Susan Ellen Taylor
Clark, London, and the late
William Ray Clark. She was a
homemaker and member of Level
Green Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by
her father; and a brother, Edward
Clark.
Survivors include her mother,
two daughters, Kayla L. Napier
and Lindsey Napier, both of
London; two brothers, Johnnie
(Carol) Clark, London, and Richard (Mary) Clark,
Corbin; a grandchild, Jeremiah Raymond Napier; a
special friend, Velia Worley; a nephew, Chris Clark,
London; and three nieces, Susan Summerville,
Lexington, Ky., Lisa Foster, Corbin, and Sara
Pendergraft, Berea.
Visitation was from 11 a.m. Monday, April 30
until the 2 p.m. funeral hour in the chapel of
Bowling Funeral Home with Ronnie Hale and Chris
Stanley officiating.
Burial followed in Poynters Chapel Cemetery,
Laurel County.
Pallbearers were Edd Alsip, Derrick Foster,
Harold Jones, Chris Stanley, David Napier and
Chris Cheek.
James “PaPaw” Hatcher Sr.
World War II veteran
James “PaPaw” Hatcher Sr., 85, Danville, Ind.,
passed away Friday, April 27, 2012, at his home.
He was born March 2, 1927 in London, Ky., the
son of the late John and Angeline Chesnut Hatcher.
He married Elinor Dowd in 1950
in London.
He was a 1945 graduate of
Lizton High School. He was a
farmer, self-employed truck driver, a farm equipment mechanic
for A.H. Stanley Farm Implements for 20 years, a
welder at Electric Steel and Castings in Speedway,
Ind., for 10 years, and a material handler at R.R.
Donnelley in Crawfordsville, Ind., where he retired.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, a
member of the Danville American Legion Post No.
118, the Rockville VFW Post No. 1752, and the
Rockville AmVets No. 61.
Survivors include his wife; his children, Sue
(Kenny) Ottinger, Jean (Charlie) Thurnall, all of
New Winchester, Ind., Kathy (Dan) Wethington,
Ladoga, Ind., Jim (Jenny) Hatcher Jr., New
Winchester, Ind., and Mari (Mike) Clark, Danville,
Ind.; 13 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren;
three great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Herman
Hatcher; and a sister, Sylvia Harrell, both of
Indianapolis, Ind.
Funeral services were conducred at 11 a.m.
Monday, April 30 in Weaver & Randolph Funeral
Home, Danville, Ind.
Burial followed in New Winchester Cemetery.
Visitation was from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday, April 29.

Lily, Ky., passed away Saturday, April 28, 2012, in
Richmond, Ky.
She was the wife of Alvin Spencer.

until the noon funeral hour at Bowling Funeral
Home with Dale Wyatt and Larry Callahan offciating.
Burial followed in Hopkins Cemetery, Laurel

Braydon William Layne Wilholt
Braydon William Layne Wilhoit, 3, son of Henry
William and Holly Jonell Bowling Wilhoit, passed
away Thursday, April 26, 2012, at his residence.
Visitation was from noon until the 2 p.m. funeral
hour in the chapel of Bowling Funeral Home with
Gary Bowling officiating.
Burial followed in Mt. Moriah Cemetery, Laurel
County.
Wesley Neil Howard
Wesley Neil Howard, 42, Cornn Cemetery Road,
London, Ky., passed away Thursday, April 26, 2012,
in Louisville, Ky.
Visitation was from noon until the 2 p.m. funeral
hour in the chapel of Bowling Funeral Home with
Mark Huff officiating.
Burial followed in McDaniel Cemetery, Laurel
County.
In lieu of flowers the family request donations be
made to the funeral home for funeral expenses.
Burton Edward Pelarski
Burton Edward Pelarski, 80, East Bernstadt,
Ky., passed away Thursday, April 26, 2012, at the
Hillcrest Nursing home in Corbin, Ky.
He was the father of Mary Louise Dobson, East
Bernstadt.
A memorial service will be held at 6 p.m. Friday,
May 4 at the Hazel Patch Baptist Church with
Randy Bingham officiating.
Graveside services and burial will follow on
Saturday, May 5 at the Mill Springs Cemetery,
Nancy, Ky.

Honored as one of London’s Living Treasures
Hospice nurse
Alice Hill Helton, 94, died peacefully, on April 26,
2012, just six days shy of her 95th birthday, at
Baptist Regional Medical Center in Corbin, Ky.,
surrounded by her children, grandchildren, and
other family members.
She was born in Keavy, Ky., on
May 2, 1917, as the youngest child
to John and Sally Ann Karr Hill.
She was preceded in death by
her parents; her husband, William
Raymond Helton; a son, Herschel
Helton; a daughter, Wanda Smith;
two grandsons, Travis Cornett
and Jason Lang; four sisters,
Bertha Vaughn, Mae Hart, Susie
Ellison, and Elva Bunch; and
three brothers, Coy Hill, Roy Hill and Addison Hill.
She is survived by three daughters, Freda Arnold
(Charles), Baldrock, Ky., Joan Lang (Don), Keavy,
Ky., Debbie Cornett (Roger), Keavy, Ky.; two sons,
Wayne Helton (Cathy), and Danny Helton, both of
Keavy, Ky.; 13 grandchildren, Sherri Watkins (Tim),
Keavy, Ky., Barbara Howard (Chester), Keavy, Ky.,
Dale Helton (Amy), Dandridge, Tenn., Lisa
Alexander (Randy), London, Ky., Katrina Jordan
(Rob), Keavy, Ky., Chris Lang (Jaime), London, Ky.,
Raymond Helton (Melvonna), Winchester, Ky., Kyle
Smith (Tiffany), Keavy, Ky., LaShae Sizemore
(Darin), Keavy, Ky., Elizabeth Wooton (Chester),
Corbin, Ky., Colby Smith, Keavy, Ky.; 18 greatgrandchildren, Chistopher Howard, Brittany
Howard, Brooke Watkins, Trevor Helton, Tanner
Jordan, Kaitlyn Helton, Dalton Wooton, Tristan
Jordan, Coy Helton, Courtney Sizemore, Emily
Wooton, Rachel Alexander, Madison Smith,
Autumn Smith, Cole Smith, Landon Alexander,
Presley Lang, and Olivia Helton; and a host of
nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Helton is being honored as one of London’s
Living Treasures. Her story about her life will be
recorded and preserved in the American Folklife
Center at the Library of Congress in Washington,
D.C., and will appear in The Sentinel-Echo on May
16, 2012.
Funeral services were conducted by Hart Funeral
Home in Corbin, Ky., with Bro. Randy Baker and
Bro. Rob Hale officiating.
Visitation was Saturday, April 28 from 6 to 9 p.m.
with the funeral being on Sunday, April 29 at 2 p.m.
Burial followed at the Locust Grove Cemetery in
Keavy, Ky.
Pallbearers were Dale Helton, Raymond Helton,
Kyle Smith, Tim Watkins, Chester Howard, Randy
Alexander, Rob Jordan, Darin Sizemore, and Chris
Lang.
Honorary pallbearers were Christopher Howard,
Trevor Helton, Tanner Jordan, Dalton Wooton,
Tristan Jordan, Coy Helton, Cole Smith, and
Landon Alexander.
Ingrid Brewster, 63, of Hanahan, S.C. widow of
David Carl Brewster died Saturday, April 28, 2012,
in a local hospital.
Born July 17, 1948 in Perth Amboy, N.J. she was
one of two children of Irving
Nielsen and Aina Headvall
Nielsen.
She was a graduate of Charles
E. Gregory School of Nursing in
Perth Amboy, N.J. and a Hospice
nurse for Odyssey. She was the
owner of
Palmetto Travel
Medicine LLC and a member of
VASA Order of America.
Mrs. Brewster was a lover of
the water, sailing, gardening,
enjoyed nature, was a Girl Scout leader and youth
leader at her former churches in Morehead and
London, Ky.
Mrs. Brewster is survived by her sister, Linda
“Lynn” Oliver and her husband, Richard-Kerr of
Hanahan, S.C.; niece, Jessica Shah and her husband, Mayur and their two boys, Marc and Devin
all of Summerville, S.C.; sister-in-law: Carol Allen
and her husband, Craig of Ironton, Ohio, and their
children, Laura Southers and her husband, Mike of
Hebron, Ky., and Kathryn Schueren and her husband, Mike of Crawfordsville, Ind.; sister-in-law
Joan Thomas and her husband, Joe of Durham,
N.C., and their children, Heather Lieb and her husband, Kevin of Rochester, N.Y., Sharon Thomas of
Arlington, Va., and David Thomas and his wife
Kelly of Lakewood, Colo; and her dog Becky.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her
husband.
The memorial service will be held at Seacoast
Church, 750 Long Point Road, Mt. Pleasant, S.C.
29464, Saturday, May 26, at 11 am. Arrangements
by J. Henry Sturh Inc., Northwoods Chapel.

Viola Stanley
March of Dimes volunteer
Viola Shackleford Stanley, 82, Evarts, Ky., went
home to be with the Lord, Saturday, April 28, 2012,
at Saint Joseph-London, following a brief illness.
A native and lifelong resident
of Harlan County, Ky., she was
very active in her community and
served as a volunteer for many
organizations including the
March of Dimes. She was also
active with the Harlan County
Homemakers
Club,
Evarts
Extension and was a member of
Evarts Methodist Church.
Mrs. Stanley was preceded in
death by her husband, Clyde W.
Stanley Sr.; and her parents, John Bailey
Shackleford and Mildred Short Shackleford.
Survivors include three children, Sharon Estes
and husband, David, Indianapolis, Ind., Clyde
Stanley Jr., Evarts, Ky., and Kay Faulkner and husband, the Rev. Roy Faulkner, London; two grandsons, Roger Estes and Michael Estes; eight greatgrandchildren; and a host of friends.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m.
today, Wednesday, May 2 at the church with the
Rev. Roy Faulkner and the Rev. David Gross officiating.
Burial will follow in Evarts Memorial Gardens
with family and friends serving as pallbearers.

Randall McDaniel, 53, Chavies, Ky., passed away
Thursday, April 26, 2012, at the Markey Cancer
Center, Lexington, Ky.
A native of Laurel County, he was born Feb. 6,
1959, the son of the late Essie
Allen McDaniel. He was an
employee of Food City and a
member of the First Pentecostal
Church, London.
He was preceded in death by his
mother; a brother, Ronnie Benge;
and a sister, Norma McDaniel.
Survivors include a brother,
Larry McDaniel, London; and
three sisters, Dallas (Ed) Hibbitts,
and Irene (Morris) Creech, both
of London, and Lois (Walter) Goosey, of Hazard.
Visitation was from noon Sunday, April 29 at
London Funeral Home until the 2 p.m. funeral hour
with Merle Owens officiating.
Burial followed in A.R. Dyche Memorial Park,
London.

Hazel Lipps Bray, 83, London, Ky., passed away
Sunday, April 29, 2012, at Laurel Heights Home for
the Elderly.
Born May 18, 1928 in Clay County, Ky., she was
the daughter of the late Tom and Luella Gray
Lipps. She was a homemaker and member of
Hopper Creek Holiness Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and
her husband, Burley Bray.
Survivors include two daughters, Faye Wilson
and husband, Charles, London, and Venita Lawson
and husband, Billy, Ft. Wayne, Ind.; two sons,
Harold Bray and wife, Carol, Joliet. Ill., and Donnie
Bray and wife, Margaret, Marion, Ind.; a sister,
Martha Smith, Valparaiso, Ind.; three brothers,
Robert Lipps, Kennett, Ark., Elbert Lipps,
Valparaiso, Ind., and Estill Lipps, Rockford, Ill.; 11
grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Ky.
