About Camp del Corazon
Camp del Corazon is a non-profit organization that provides year-round experiential opportunities for children faced with the
challenges of growing up and living with heart disease. We provide a residential summer camp experience for children ages 7-17
as well as programs that offer opportunities for growth, education and support for children, young adults and the families who are
living with heart disease. Founded in 1995, Camp del Corazon serves more than 350 deserving children each year.
Sylvester Stallone & Jennifer Flavin
As parents of a child born and growing up with Congenital Heart Disease and longtime supporters of Camp del Corazon, Sylvester
and Jennifer are opening their hearts as this year’s Co-Honorees. Sylvester and Jennifer know firsthand the physical and emotional
adversity so common amongst our campers and their families as their beautiful daughter Sophia Rose endured open heart surgeries
both as an infant and as a young adult. They have consistently supported heart health causes and have been generous friends to
Camp for many years.
Camp del Corazon is so grateful that the Stallone Family is once again lending their support to help send more deserving children to
camp this summer.
Dr. David Ferry
Camp del Corazon is excited to present David A. Ferry, M.D as the 2014 Gala del Sol Medical Honoree. Dr. Ferry is one of the most
well respected Pediatric Cardiologists in the Los Angeles area. He has an unparalleled gift of compassion for the overall well-being of
his patients and the families he serves. He is the senior member and leader of Pediatric Cardiology Medical Associates and is a fellow
of both the American College of Cardiology and American Academy of Pediatrics. He enjoys teaching and is a four-time recipient of
the Golden Apple Teaching Award given by the Pediatric residents at Cedars-Sinai.
Not only is Dr. Ferry is one of the most well respected cardiologists in the Los Angeles area, but he has organized numerous
volunteer trips to Latin America where he and his team diagnose and treat children with congenital heart disease. He is a talented
Interventional Pediatric Cardiologist who has performed life saving procedures in both the United States and Ecuador. We proudly
acknowledge him for his support and commitment to Camp del Corazon.
Tom Arnold - Host
As an actor, Arnold is equally adept at playing any character – be it comedic or tragic – as his inspiration comes directly from the
heart, not just the words found on the script. Perhaps, the one role that Tom Arnold is most proud of is the role of patron, friend,
and honorary camper to Camp del Corazon. Tom truly understands what it is like to be a kid on the outside looking in and loves
going to Camp each year to spend time with these amazing kids. Among the highlights of a Camp session with Tom Arnold are the
“Who’s Got the Grungiest Chest Scar?” contest - in which he’ll obligingly share his scar story with the campers-and the heartfelt oneto-one talks with campers who have never been away from home before – except for long hospital stays- no matter what the
activity, whatever the storyline, Tom’s presence at Camp creates a different kind of magic and does more for the self-esteem of
these children than words can possibly say!
Tom has been such a dedicated friend to Camp del Corazon (he was honored at our gala in 2007) – and to all of our deserving
campers – for several years. Tom even added to our extended Camp family this last year when he welcomed his first son, Jax, to the
world with his wife Ashley – who is also a tireless and committed supporter of Camp del Corazon. For all of their support, we say

Joel McHale – Co-Host
Camp del Corazon has been lucky to call Joel McHale a friend for the past 6 years. While Joel is known for being a comedian and
actor, he is best known around camp as “Emu.” Joel began hosting our Annual Gala del Sol in 2010, and has quickly become one of
our most loyal champions, even being recognized on the national stage of VH1’s Do Something Awards for his work with us. He now
sits on our Board of Directors, as was honored for his contributions to camp at the 2013 Gala del Sol.
Joel's connection to camp is more than simply philanthropic. The McHale's first child, Eddie, was born with two holes in the wall of
his heart, a condition requiring open heart surgery when he was just a newborn. Joel counts their family as one of the lucky ones,
however, as Eddie made a full and speedy recovery. “We were so lucky, because we had an end to the dark tunnel that was his
problem. But for other kids, it can be a life-long struggle, or worse. They are so strong and brave.” Joel understands firsthand the
challenges our campers are facing, and we thank him for his tireless support.
