The Children’s Museum of Manhattan (CMOM) is delighted that you are interested in interning with
us! For decades, CMOM has been a destination and resource where schools and families of all
backgrounds come to learn, play and grow together. At CMOM, we take pride in our mission to
prepare children to succeed in school, help families live healthy lives, and nurture a new generation
of creative and global citizens through a unique environment of interactive exhibitions and
programs. As an intern you will gain real world experience and relevant skills that support your
education and career exploration.
CMOM is looking for exceptional intern candidates to work with our staff, students and visitors in a
number of capacities. Selected interns will be placed in one of three departments:
• Public Programs: Facilitating public programs activities and exhibits, as well as assisting with
teaching workshops.
• School Programs: Conducting guided tours throughout museum exhibits, as well assisting in
offsite outreach programming and mentoring high school interns.
• Development Department: Assisting in hands-on non-profit fundraising projects related but not
limited to: prospect research, event planning, donor relations, membership services, social media
and database management.
Qualifications and Important Information:




Candidates must currently be enrolled or have recently completed a degree in the Arts,
Education, Museum Studies, Communication and Marketing or other related field
Summer Session runs from late June through August
Interns are required to work 2-3 days per week from 10 am-3 pm (depending on
department)
Course credit can be arranged
Interns must:
 Communicate effectively with others.
 Have an interest in technology and new children’s media.
 Have excellent verbal and written communication skills.
 Have interest or experience working with children (ages 0-12).
 Have experience conducting and organizing research.
 Have strong computer skills and experience with Microsoft Office, and web and database
searches.

Application Requirements
 All applicants must submit a copy of the completed application, resume and cover letter
detailing your interest and experience relating to one of our intern departments to
[email protected].
 You must also have a recommendation letter sent by email or hard copy to Megan Swanby.
This can be an educational or professional recommendation.
 You must be able to commit to all days and times of the program session. Time
commitments are somewhat flexible and can range from 20-25 hours per week depending
on availability. Each department has different minimum requirements.
Acceptance and Notification
 Acceptance into the internship program is based upon academic achievement, interests,
experience, related skills, motivation, and availability.
 Only those candidates who have completed the application and are invited for interviews
will receive notification. Unfortunately, we receive too many applications to respond to
everyone.
