College Admissions Secrets
Going to college shapes your future, changes
your life, and costs you tens – if not hundreds
– of thousands of dollars. Before investing
your money in education, it is a good idea to
invest some time in understanding the process
and learning how to select the colleges that
are the right fit for you or your student. Finding the right college can be a time consuming
and stressful experience. The admissions
process often seems like a mysterious and
confusing secret. With thousands of colleges
all offering unique advantages and individual
admissions procedures, it is easy to get overwhelmed. With good planning and careful
preparation, you can achieve your goals by
finding the best colleges for you and successfully completing the application process.
This course is designed for students entering their sophomore or junior years.

develop your vision. Choose from a number
of exercises than can be tailored to your level

Nature
Photography With Slide Film
You may have heard that film and film
photographers are extinct. They are still out
there producing magnificent results. Now is
the time to dust off your trusty 35mm Single
Lens Reflex camera. Find out for yourself why
so many serious nature photographers still
use slide film. Slides produce colors that are
vivid and saturated and can be crisp and more
detailed than most images captured by multimegapixel, technologically marvelous digital
SLR’s. The first session takes place in the
classroom and in the field while your instructor discusses tried and true techniques that
bring out the best slide film can offer. During
the second session, share your work with
your classmates in an evening of slide shows,
critiques and camaraderie. Solid photography
experience, a tripod and a cable shutter release
are recommended. Students are required to
purchase their own film and pay for processing. Enrollment is limited. This course meets

Photographing
the Natural Landscape
Scenic beauty alone does not produce a magnificent landscape photograph. It requires
technical skill and artistic vision. This course
is designed to expand your technical ability
and to help develop your personal vision
of beauty found in the natural landscape.
Course includes classroom critiques, exercises to be completed between classes (yes,
homework), and one session in the field.
Bring two of your favorite images (slides,
prints, digital images on CD or thumb drive)
to the first session. Students should have
either a 35mm Single Lens Reflex camera or
digital Single Lens Reflex camera and have
a basic understanding of how their camera
works. A tripod and cable shutter release
are recommended. Fine art photographer J.
W. Johnston (www.jwjohnston.com), whose
work is on exhibit at Orazio Salati Studio and
