Chirps From the Nest!
Greetings from Camp Fern! The dust has settled from
a summer of fun and an exciting Alumni reunion. Can
you believe that we celebrated 80 years this summer!
That’s a long time, and we couldn’t have done it
without each and every one of you. The theme for the
reunion was “We came as strangers; we left as friends;
we return as family.” Thank you for being a member of our Camp Fern Family!!!
Keep a look out for your Camp Fern video coming before Thanksgiving! Sometimes it’s hard to pack 9 weeks of fun into an hour
long video, and our friends at CampTV did a great job this year. Shout out to
our
videographers Nathaniel Dauphin and Matt Stilson for their hard
work this summer filming our fun.
Margaret is excited to announce that directors ERICA and WILLY will
be with us now full-time for a while! We are all most blessed. They are both
17 year veterans of camp and add so much energy, fun and hugs! They are
working together on all projects that affect YOU! You will see them at winter
parties, maybe a surprise visit at home and, of course, at camp in the
summer! They’re fired up and so am I!
We got two new horses! Willy rode the first one. He’s a large white
thoroughbred who will be good friends with Joker. We’re starting a contest
to name him. Send your suggestions to [email protected] and
see if your name is chosen. He loves to have his ears rubbed. Alan Fox is
working on his jumping skills too. The second horse is Gigi. She’s a chestnut mare who is a sweetheart! She’s been a schooling horse and brood
mare. She can do anything!

“Fern it Forward” Become a Fernbassador
HELP YOUR PARENTS AND BRING A FRIEND! Parents and alumni
receive cash payments for each brand new camper you bring to camp!
Fernbassador Bucks are paid on the store balance at the end of each
session or by check if the new camper attends a later session. It can
also be credited to the next summer. Fernbassador Bucks are paid to
families who have a Zero dollar balance with Camp Fern.
Fernbassador Recruiting Incentives
$50 Fern Bucks for each new one week camper
$125 Fern Bucks for each new two week camper
$250 Fern Bucks for each new four week camper
50% off tuition for 5 new campers of same session.

Camper Capers
We love to hear what our campers are up to this time of year! Thanks to all the parents who shared the following about

wait to see you there!
Emma and Maggie McDonald (GC) and their little sister Maeve are all living in Bogota, Colombia, now but are still
looking forward to Camp Fern, especially new comer Maeve! She has been ready for about two years now and can't
wait to join the fun!
Jude Martin (BC) has been doing well in the first quarter of 4th grade. He is very excited because soon he will
be baptized after giving his heart to Jesus!
Caroline Sample (GC) is playing the role of Carrie Ingalls in the Academy of Children's Theatre's performance
of "Little House on the Prairie".
Austin Clark (BC) is enjoying soccer this fall, and he recently was excited to score his first goal!
Garrett Clark (BC) is enjoying flag football where he routinely saves touchdowns by sprinting across the field
and diving to grab the flag.
Lucy Yates (GC) is taking judo classes.
Parke Thornton (GC) misses her Hickory Hut sisters and makes Gold Bars at home often to remember her
summers at Camp Fern!
Hunter Conaway (BC) is just " keeping it real" in the Land of OZ aka Overland Park, KS
Kaetlyn Perkins (GC) is now an advanced yellow belt in taekwondo and is beginning to spar! She is doing
wonderful in school this year and has a fantastic teacher!
Sophie Hudson, Catherine Gallant, Gabriella Rose, & Matthew Alban all had website projects that were chosen
to be displayed on the Texas State Historical Association website.
Nixon Long (CC) is having fun playing on his soccer team, the Volcano Sharks.
Lauren Holcomb (GC) is loving being a middle schooler and just made the all -A honor roll! She was also chosen
as the first ever Dancer of the Month by her dance company instructors in recognition of her hard work and good
attitude.
Cody Dean (BC) is enjoying third grade fall baseball and Cub Scouts.
Congratulations to all of you on each of your accomplishments. We are so proud of you!

Have you ever let words slip out that you shouldn’t
have said? It’s like trying to put toothpaste back in the
tube. It’s like removing nails from a board, but there
are still holes in the board. Once said, they can’t be
taken back. Their impact is still felt by someone else
who might feel hurt or even angry. This is not how God
wants us to be.
The best way to keep those thoughts from being voiced
is to not think them in the first place. So watch what
you think. Stop the negative thoughts you have of
someone. And if you have them, certainly don’t speak
them. We all should want to be Positive People.
(That’s the “P” in our acronym “CHIPS” to be people of
Character.) As Miss Peggy always used to say, “Look
for the good in others and you will find it.
Are you a college freshman or older? Download the New
Staff Application Package from the website, and return it to
us ASAP.
We’re on the road already visiting universities and church
groups. We’re doing a special staff early bird this year, so
the sooner we hear from you the better!
