Youth Formation (6-12th Grades)
SUNDAY GOSPEL REFLECTION: Today’s Gospel focus is the
Shepherd-King. The Church year ends with a celebration of
the universal kingship of Jesus. Today’s readings use the imagery of a shepherd, which runs counter to ancient ideas of
both bad kings and good ones. God as our shepherd-king is
neither a warrior nor an exploiter, but rather one who
guards his flock and seeks out those who are straying. The
shepherd-king judges on the basis of how closely we have
modeled ourselves on God’s own way of acting. How have
we conducted ourselves in a way that would identify us as
members of God’s flock?
You can find schedules and information about all of our programs on the parish website (www.stpatscs.org) under
FAITH FORMATION > YOUTH MINISTRY > the program you
are interested in.
EDGE – MIDDLE SCHOOL YOUTH MINISTRY
We invite all of you who attend our Catholic schools to join our
program too! Building the parish community is an important part

of Confirmation next year (2016), they must take part
in a faith formation program, such as EDGE, this year.
This is according to the bishop’s guidelines for receiving
a Sacrament.

Eucharist comes from the Greek noun, eucharistia, which means
thanksgiving. In this season of thanksgiving & Advent, it is fitting
to stop & reflect in gratitude for what God has given us. St. Paul
shares with us that gratitude & thanksgiving are foundational to
what our communities should be.
It is with good reason that our primary gathering each week is
called “Eucharist”. Being thankful to God honors Him, & shows
faith & trust in Him. Gratitude in itself is a gift from God-feeling
grateful for what you have instantly makes you forget about
what you don’t, & is by far the easiest road to satisfaction &
happiness. Gratitude for blessings brings more blessings. It is
appropriate to be grateful & enthusiastic for what God has done
for us in Christ: the salvation won for us & the plan God has for
us.
We do as our Savior instructed us: we give thanks. The whole
life of our parish can be a Eucharist, with gratitude for each other & for opportunities to share in building God’s kingdom on
Earth. Counting our blessings is a great way to be happier.
Thank you God for this beautiful day & for all the joy & love you
send my way. I am blessed indeed! Make gratitude your attitude! It will bless everyone ... you & God!
RCIA
Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults (RCIA): Our
lives sometimes go through seasons of change; of closeness to God & distance from him. Yet God the Father’s
love is steadfast & ever-present to those who seek with
a sincere heart, no matter what sins or situations have
caused separation. If you have thought about becoming
Catholic, or are already baptized Catholic but have a desire to
receive Eucharist & Confirmation it may be time to begin a new
“season” in your life! Contact Sister Marlou Ricke for information on RCIA: 719-510-5692/[email protected] We
have sessions for teens, children, adults, & Spanish. Nursery is
available.

November 30 is the First Sunday of Advent. There are many
styles of “Advent Wreaths” that contain 4 candles…one for
each Sunday leading up to Christmas. Let us join together as a
family to celebrate and prepare for the coming of Advent…the
Season of Hope, Joy, Preparation & Love. You may have special Advent Traditions in your family. On November 22 we will
have a display of some Advent materials we have collected;
simple wreaths & candles will be available if you need them for
your home (donations will be appreciated). We’ll also have The
Little Blue Books available with 6 minute reflections on the Advent & Christmas Season. They will be handed out on November
22/23 and 29/30 – please only one per family as our supply
is limited. How will you prepare this Advent Season?
Vocations
WHAT KINDS OF PEOPLE become priests, sisters or brothers? Are
they uncommonly holy, unusually saint-like? No. They are people
who make mistakes, people who aren’t afraid to be human while in
God’s service. Are they people who can’t face the competition &
cruelty of the “real” world? No. They are people who believe that
through ministry they can immerse themselves in the world & make
positive changes. Are they people who don’t relate well with other
people? No. They are people who love others—people who find
real satisfaction chatting with a 93-year-old parishioner, holding
the hand of a cancer patient & listening to the troubles of a streetwise teen. They are people with the courage to touch lives, hearts
& souls in a high-tech, unchurched world. Are you that kind of person?
Do you feel you may be called to priesthood, sisterhood or
brotherhood? For more info about vocations, contact Bishop Sheridan at the Diocese of Colorado Springs, CO at 636-2345.

Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick is one of the 7
sacraments instituted by Christ our Lord? It was formerly called Extreme Unction or the Last Rites. “Is anyone among you sick? He
should summon the presbyters of the church, & they should pray over
him & anoint him with oil in the name of the Lord, & the prayer of
faith will save the sick person, & the Lord will raise him up. If he has
committed any sins, he will be forgiven.” (James 5:14-16).
Who can receive the Anointing of the Sick? This sacrament may
be received by anyone who has a serious illness, by anyone preparing for a major surgery, or by anyone in danger of death.
The sacrament may be repeated if the sick person recovers after
being anointed & then again falls ill or if during the same illness,
the person’s condition becomes more serious.
It is a privilege to be able to pray with those who are in need.
This sacrament is for when people are cognizant & able to appreciate the sacrament, as well as during an emergency or even in a
coma. While someone is sick, we have the opportunity to offer
words of comfort: the Words of Christ!
Hispanic Ministry
Hispanic Ministry: is an energetic & devoted group of Spanish
speaking men & women meeting at St. Patrick. We meet regularly
for Scripture studies, Faith Formation & a Charismatic Prayer Meeting.
The Charismatic Prayer Group seeks to foster a personal experience of Pentecost for each person by offering opportunities for individuals to encounter Jesus as Savior & Lord & offer opportunities to
experience Baptism in the Holy Spirit. We come together to praise,
worship & honor God & to build up the Body of Christ as brothers &
sisters.
Once a month the Spanish men & women gather to share a meal
& their faith. Women meet Dec 6th. Men meet Dec 13th.
Masses in Spanish are offered periodically. Contact Melida at
444-8129 for more information. Come join us!

Stewardship of Time and Talent ~ Volunteers Needed !!
Hospitality Ministers & Greeters: welcome
people to the Church & help with the flow
of the Mass. Greeters meet you at the door with a smile & offer
help to any newcomers; Hospitality Ministers welcome you into
the Sanctuary & help you find a seat on a crowded day. They
help to make the Mass flow smoothly—assisting with collections,
presentation of the Gifts, Communion, & special celebrations—
always keeping an eye out for young children. You are offered
a parish bulletin as you depart—with a smile & a thank you.
Continually welcoming new people is a great way to meet everyone joining in this celebration. If you would like to volunteer,
contact Andrew 598-3595 x146
Emergency Action Team (EAT): We are radio’d up & ready to
be the focal point for all events that happen before, during or
after Mass: medical issues, security concerns, & safety. We keep
the nursery in radio contact & we are vigilant about things that
are out of the ordinary. The most often asked question is “Do
we need this?” & our answer is “We hope not, but we’d rather
have it in place if we do.” For more info, contact Andy Berry at
487-8917.
Sound Ministry: enables the assembly to fully participate in the Mass by hearing the Word of God,
both spoken & sung. They assist in setting up & operating the sound equipment, primarily during Masses. There
are other instances during weddings, funerals, education sessions & other special occasions that may require or request
sound support. Ministers must be of Confirmation age & able to
work closely with the music groups to achieve an optimal balance & volume with the various microphones used. No previous
experience is necessary; we will train you on everything you
need to know. If you would like to learn more, contact Jim at
[email protected] or call 598-9299.
Lectors/Commentators: Lectors to proclaim God’s Holy Word
at Mass so that those in our assembly will focus on the readings
& not let anything distract them from hearing the Words of
Scripture being proclaimed. We don’t just read, we “proclaim”
the Word of God to the faithful assembled. In the Liturgy of the
Word the Holy Spirit “recalls” to the assembly all that Christ has
done for us. The Commentator starts the Mass by welcoming the
congregation, leading prayers & giving an introduction to the
Liturgy. For more information, contact Lisa at 313-9004 or
email: [email protected].
Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion: (EMHC):
share the Precious Body & Precious Blood of Christ during Eucharist (Communion) at Mass & Communion Services. The ministers also share the Precious Body of
Christ to the homebound & in hospitals. Volunteers must be at
least 16 years of age, a practicing Catholic, have received the
Sacrament of Confirmation & if married, had their marriage
blessed in the Church. It is one of the most fulfilling ministries you
can do. If you would like to be trained as an EMHC, please
contact Andy at 638-5805 or email [email protected]
Video Ministers Needed: Complete one-on-one video
training provided as long as you need it. Most ministers
just sit down at our state-of-the-art equipment & step
through slides from a playlist created for you. We provide a cue sheet as your guide. You learn so much more about
the Mass! We have ministers of every age so don't let that stop
you. Please contact Nancy Korpi, servant leader, at 599-8911
or [email protected].
Altar Linens Ministry: Each week two dedicated volunteers
wash, iron, fold & return to church the many linens used during
our Eucharistic celebrations. Linen ministers are scheduled 2-3
times in a 6 month period. It is a small commitment with no meetings to attend. Detailed training is provided. A new schedule
begins in January & you are invited to join this group of dedicated people in serving our parish. For more info or to join
please call the ministry servant leader at 531-6024.
Baptism Padrinos: This ministry assists in the Baptism
process. A trained volunteer is on hand to welcome the
parents for the Rite of the Reception of Children. The
Reception takes place at one of the weekend liturgies.
The Padrino is also available to help the parents prepare for the Celebration of the Sacrament of Baptism. If you
would like to be trained in this special ministry, call Virginia at
593-7684.
Sacristans: minimize distractions from Mass by proper placement of all items required for the Liturgy. They also verify that
the required positions for EMHC and Lectors are filled. The Sacristan should arrive 20 minutes prior to the start of Mass, assist
during Communion & return everything to its proper place after
Mass (10 minutes). The Sacristan is also a trained & mandated
Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion (EMHC). If you are
interested in serving in this ministry, contact Christine at 2827705 or email: [email protected].
Adult Choir: Interested persons may serve as a Choir
Member, a Cantor, or an Instrumentalist. Music ministers rehearse at a 90-minute rehearsal during the
week. For singers, proper vocal production, breathing techniques, vowel formation, diction, & part-singing are all addressed while preparing to prayerfully support the musical
prayer at all Parish liturgies. Instrumentalists are instructed to be
part of an ensemble that supports the singing of the Assembly &
Music Ministers at the Masses. On the weekend, the musicians
arrive to warm up & rehearse before the scheduled Mass at
which they serve. Contact Jolita at 598-3595x115.
Youth & Children’s choirs: Celtic Cherubs, Emerald Singers &
Trinity Singers. Call the parish office for more information.
Altar Server Ministry: provides boys & girls with the
opportunity to learn more about their faith & to begin
to build a foundation of evangelization & stewardship
by serving at Mass & other liturgical functions. Some of
the goals include: enhancing the servers’ understanding
of liturgy & services to the faith community, giving each server
opportunities to serve at various liturgical functions, encouraging
them to consider a vocation to the priesthood or religious life,
instilling in them a life-long desire & commitment of service to
the Church Children who are in the 2nd grade & up & who have
received First Holy Communion are eligible. Parents who would
like their children to serve at the altar may contact Katie at 359
-3800.
Ministry of the Week
Environment: Volunteers decorate the
Church for special seasons & Liturgical celebrations to glorify the Lord & to make the
House of God as wonderful & as beautiful
as possible. Youth & families may participate. To volunteer, call Marie at 598-1306 or email
6 [email protected].
Who is God?
Have you ever stopped to ask yourself who is God to me? How does God fit into my life’s
equation? Is He merely a dusty book on the shelf; a fall back in times of need; a Sunday
obligation; someone I’ll turn to later in life?
“Therefore, stay awake, for you know neither the day nor the hour.” Matthew 25:13
“...one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all.”
Ephesians 4:6
The presence of God in our lives should set our hearts on fire every day; but where have I
seen God in my life? Where have I seen Him “...hungry...thirsty...or naked…”(Mt. 25:3739)? Are our hearts blind to the presence of God in others? Do we not see the face of God
in all that we meet. Who is God and when have I reached out to Him, to minister to Him or
to be ministered to by Him? If I doubt the presence of God in others...I doubt the very
existence of God.
“Beloved, if God so loved us, we also must love another. No one has ever seen God. Yet,
if we love one another, God remains in us, and his love is brought to perfection in us.
1 John 4:12
Jesus is king of the Universe, master of all creation; and yet He takes the back seat to the rest
of our lives. We worry about tomorrow though we do not have to (Mt. 6:25-34). We waste
our time collecting material possessions and dwelling in passing things of this world (1John
2:15-17). Who is God to me? Is He someone who walked the earth two thousand years
ago...or someone who died to save me from death itself?
“”For behold, the kingdom of God is among you.” Luke 17:21
“‘...and they shall name him Emmanuel,’ which means ‘God is with us.’” Matthew 1:23
How does my life testify to who God is? My actions speak louder than words and my
words can be actions themselves. Do my words and actions speak of a God more
powerful than death, poverty, sin and despair? Do I show up on Sunday, hear God’s
word and receive His grace only to do nothing with it outside of Mass?
“Dry bones, hear the word of the Lord!...See! I will bring spirit into you, that you may
come to life...thus you shall know that I am the Lord.” Ezekiel 37:4, 5, 13
The Feast of Jesus Christ, King of the Universe,
does not just signify the end to another liturgical
year and the coming of Advent. This Feast
speaks of all the Readings we hear throughout
the year, telling us that Jesus is King not just on
a feast day, or at this time of the year, or only
during Mass. Jesus is present always and
everywhere and He never stops being King.
Who do I say that God is? God is King, God is
mighty, God is present, God is love of another
person, God is love!
7
Jesus,
awaken within me the desire to live
for You, and with You.
May Your love inflame my heart,
and deepen my trust to reach out
to others and walk with them
in compassionate faith.
Create in me the spark of hope,
igniting dry hearts and a tender love
to soothe wounded souls.
Help me to seek You in all things and
show a disdain for the emptiness
of this world.

My Estate Manager is shown on our website under Parish
Links. As we remember those who have gone before us, we
reflect on God’s promise of eternal life. This is just a fraction
of what God has planned for us. We can also acknowledge
the importance of being prepared for the end of our earthly
life. It is a responsibility that God bestows on us as it offers
a unique opportunity to pass along a legacy of loving kindness. My Estate Manager is a free resource from St. Patrick
that helps you plan. This site is sponsored by Pikes Peak Hospice & Palliative Care.

donations to a designated organization. During the year, the
St. Patrick Tithing Committee identifies approximately 26
non-profit charitable organizations to receive a monetary gift
from our church. The Tithing Committee would like to support
local non-profit organizations that are known to St. Patrick
parishioners. If you know of a local non-profit organization

non-profit organization submit a personal letter through you to
the St. Patrick Tithing Committee describing the mission of their

WE GIVE THANKS—AGAIN!
Holiday Food Drive: We need your help with our
annual Christmas food baskets. The complete list of
needed items is in the gathering space, on the welcome tables. Food should be returned to St. Patrick no later
than Dec. 15th. As always, Monetary Donations are appreciated as well. Carts will be available outside the Parish Office. Please do not block doorways. Thank You!!
With Thanksgiving only a few days away, it is
fitting that we stop to think of the many things for
which we should be grateful. And of course, we also should
be aware of the Source for all the blessings which we have.
At this time, I want to thank all the St. Patrick Family for
the wonderful support they have given to all the activities
involving the Knights of Columbus and the Ladies Auxiliary.
We enjoy tremendously supporting the Parish Life activities,
such as Oktoberfest, Parish Picnic, and parking at Easter and
Christmas. Feeding the flock with Pancake Breakfasts and
Lenten Fish Fries is also a lot of fun.
You, the St. Patrick family support us in our charitable
programs such as the Annual Benefit, Christmas Cards, Ladies
Auxiliary bake sale, King Soopers cards and so on. We
couldn’t do as many charitable projects without the support
of the whole community. So thank you, and may you have
blessed and joyful holidays.
God Bless,

“CONTEMPLATIVE PRAYER AS ADVENT PREPARATION:
Tired of the busyness, stress, & “me”-focus so common leading
up to Christmas? The fruits of contemplative prayer include a
taste for silence in one’s life & an ability to “let go” in the
course of daily activity. The St. Patrick Contemplative Prayer
group practices the Centering Prayer method in which we sit in
silence with God—opening our minds, hearts & whole beings in
Advent preparation. The Thursday evening group meets on the
2nd & 4th weeks of each month—Dec 11; Jan 8 at 6:30pm in
Room 121 (Tekakwitha). For more info: Steve (282-1924 or
[email protected]). We hope you can join us!
That Man Is You! (TMIY) We meet at 6am in the Bonzel
Hall. TMIY Is a weekly men’s program, with breakfast, that
seeks to educate, encourage & strengthen men to be real men,
not as the world defines it, but as God does. This year’s theme is
“The Revelation of the Father” which explores the mystery that
touches God. Indeed, men “relive & reveal on earth the very
fatherhood of God.“ Come & join us for an opportunity to grow
in your faith & experience fellowship with other men seeking to
better understand God’s call in their life.

The Called & Gifted Spiritual Gifts Discernment
Program: Today Paul tells us -- as he addresses the
Corinthians (1:3-9) -- that we “are not lacking in any
spiritual gifts … and by him [we] are called to fellowship with his Son, Jesus Christ our Lord.” God equips us with
spiritual gifts called charisms to carry out the work Jesus began.
Let us be watchful and alert to his call. The Called and Gifted
Program, a process of prayer, reflection, action and observation, helps participants discern their (charisms), which offer a clue
to their personal call. Contact Ann 531-6725/

Family Life
Around the Diocese
Do you think you might be called to the Permanent Diaconate?
Kids & Co. Playgroup is a fun way for both parents &
young children to socialize in a positive & supportive setting.
We meet Wednesday mornings from 9:30-11:30 at local
parks, attractions or the church nursery. To join our email list,
contact Kate at [email protected] or 659-3267. Our
Facebook group is: St. Pat's Kids & Co.
Have you ever felt an attraction to a public ministry in the Church? We
invite you to come to one of the information nights to see if the permanent
diaconate might be what God is calling you to. What is this evening for?
It’s to learn about the diaconate. It’s to learn about discernment. It’s to
connect with those involved with deacon formation. It’s to meet others like
you, thinking about the diaconate. It’s for your family to find out what this
call is all about.
What do I need to do?
First of all, make sure -- if you are married -- that you have talked about
this with your wife & family. Second, make sure that you have a conversation with your pastor, since he will be an important part of the discernment
and formation process.
And, finally, please attend one of the information nights. You & your wife
(if you are married) are welcome to come & ask questions regarding the
process. Each evening is scheduled from 7–9pm
