Stewardship in Action:
That as faith-filled stewards, we take the risk of
being generous, sharing our time, talent and
resources, in love and justice,
we pray to the Lord…
Stewardship Reflection:
The bishops’ pastoral letter on stewardship
reminds us, “Jesus not only calls people to Him
but also forms them and send them out in His
service. Being sent on a mission is a consequence of being disciples.”
Living Stewardship:
We are grateful this week for all stewards in
our parish who re-prioritize their giving in these
challenging times and the faith to keep the
mission of Christ first!
Stewardship of Collections:
Our thanks and gratitude for your sacrificial
giving each week.

FROM THE PASTOR
PASTOR’S DESK:
On Thursday, October 23rd, Bishop Nelson Perez will be at Saint Hugh to administer the
Sacrament of Confirmation to 80 boys and girls. These young people have been preparing
hard for this most special day for the last two years in our Confirmation Program. In addition to weekly
classes during the school year, the students have had to fulfill several other assignments to ready themselves
for living full Christian lives. First, each year they have had to perform service hours at home, in school or at
the parish. Some of those hours had to reflect one or more of the Spiritual and Corporal Works of Mercy
(Remember those?) The purpose of this project was to teach the children the meaning of the words, “By this
shall all know that you are disciples, that you have love for one another.” In addition, the students had to write
reflections on the readings and homilies from Masses during the year. This was to teach them the importance
of going to Church and participating on the mass to learn what Jesus calls us to do and how we are to live in
the world. Their preparation included writing a personal letter to me telling me why they wanted to receive the
sacrament. (Yes. I read every one!) The students were also required to reflect on the importance of the Gifts
and Fruits of the Holy Spirit that they will receive. These last few weeks before Confirmation have been filled
with presentations on the challenges of the modern world, personal preparation to receive the Spirit and an interview with a staff member.
As you can see, the girls and boys have worked hard to prepare for this great day in many ways. We are certainly proud of them. During the Confirmation celebration, I will present them to the Bishop and attest to their
readiness for the Sacrament. As the pastor, I will be speaking in your name. Please take some time this week
to pray in a special way for these young people. As Catholics in the world today, they will face many challenges, just as you do. They will need the strength of the Holy Spirit and thee support of their Church – Saint
Hugh. That support begins now with your prays for them. If you did not take a specific name over the last two
weeks, that’s OK. Pray for them all! (That’s a lot of prayers!) These youngsters are the future of our world and
our church. They deserve the very best we can give them.
***************
Sunday, November 2nd is All Souls Day, a day set aside to remember our loved ones who have died. The
10:00 Mass will be a special Mass to remember those parishioners who have died this year. We will also remember members of our families who left us this year. All are welcome to attend.
Because the Scriptures remind us that it is good to pray for the dead, the parish will also begin a special novena of Masses on that day for those who are enrolled. You may enroll your loved ones by placing their names
on the envelope you received and placing it in the basket. Extra envelopes are available at the doors.

ST HUGH’S MINISTRY OF PRAYER
We have a special powerhouse of spiritual energy at St. Hugh: our ministers of prayer. This ministry of service is designed for homebound parishioners and others who are no longer able to participate actively in a
parish ministry due to age, infirmity or other limitations. The first of each month, participants receive, by
mail a list of prayer petitions for our world, our Church and our parish. The ministers make a commitment
to pray for these intentions at their convenience, in the privacy of their own home. Please spread the word
about the Ministry of Prayer! To be a part of this ministry, call the rectory 427-0638.
