In particular, we take time for granted. Our lives are so busy, many of us are planning our time - our days, weeks, months, even years in advance. Remember, our time on earth is a gift. None of us knows how long we will be here. Start today and begin thanking God for each and every day. Take time in silence, every day, and listen to what God is saying to you. Advent is the season for us to consider and appreciate more deeply the meaning of Christ's birth and to look forward with joy to His second coming. We're reminded of how much we ourselves need a Savior and the great love God has for all human life. Christ is coming at Christmas to change, transform and save us all. God loves us too much to have allowed us to be separated from Him. He wants to come to every corner of our world and transform every aspect of our lives. As each candle of the Advent wreath is lit, the darkness gets pushed back just as Christ's coming pushed back the darkness of the world. Through our baptism we too are called to bring Christ's light and message of peace to the world. The peace the world longs for will only come when the world respects and cherishes all human life with the same love that God has revealed to us. Advent should remind us that to bring Christ's light and peace to the world we need to be actively bringing His message of truth, love and justice to the world. We need to take the light of Christ and work to protect the God-given rights of every human being born and preborn. Christ came for all humanity, no matter a person's age or physical condition. By being engaged in the mission of bringing respect for all life to the world, of being in the light of Christ, is the way to celebrate Advent and prepare the world for Christmas. A prayer during Advent from Priests for Life - "God of Life, we rejoice in the promise of your coming. You have sent your Son, born in Bethlehem. He is the Prince of Peace, and The One in whose name all oppression shall cease. May we welcome His coming each day and prepare for His coming at the end of time. May we build a culture that welcomes Him by welcoming every child, born and unborn. We pray through the same Christ our Lord. Amen." The 10 months prior to the World Meeting of Families have been assigned 10 themes based on the 10 chapters of the Preparatory Catechesis, “Love is our Mission: The Family Fully Alive”. The December 2014 theme is: Mission of Love which states: God works through us. We have a mission. We are in the world for a purpose — to receive God’s love and to show God’s love to others. God seeks to heal a broken universe. He asks us to be his witnesses and helpers in that work. Check out this website frequently during the year. Immaculata High School FALL APPAREL SALE YOU CAN’T HIDE THAT SPARTAN PRIDE! Order forms & payments due December 3rd All orders received in time for Christmas! Go to the Immaculata website for the order forms or copy and paste this link to your web browser: : http://bit.ly/1zGJXKI 5 Social Ministry Operation St. Nick - Operation St. Nick is our Christmas gift giving program for area children/families in need. Look for the Christmas tree this weekend, the tags on the tree indicate specific gifts requested by families for their children. By taking a tag, and returning it to church with the specified gift, you will be sharing the joy of Christmas with those less fortunate. Each year more than one thousand gifts are collected and distributed to parishioners in need and other local agencies (i.e. Division of Youth and Family Services, Catholic Charities, St. Peter’s Pediatric Oncology and Family Clinic, and Parish Families in Need). It is easy to become distracted from the true meaning of Christmas in a world that emphasizes commercialism and seems to push toward secular observance of the holidays. It is a blessing to be part of a faith community that exemplifies the spirit of giving, year after year, by its generous participation in this project. The simple act of giving selflessly and joyfully is the best celebration of the birth of our Savior. "For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace." Isaiah 9: 6 Samaritan Homeless Interim Program – SHIP: Enjoy a short stack for a tall cause! You’re invited to Applebee’s Flapjack Fundraiser breakfast on December 14th from 8am – 10 am, to support SHIP. Tickets are $10.00 and can be purchased by contacting SHIP at 908 722-0295 or email [email protected]. The fundraiser is being held at the Applebee’s located at 640 Promenade Blvd. Bridgewater. Frosty the Snowman will be making an appearance so you can also have phots taken with Frosty! Donations will also be accepted in any amount for SHIP and you can take home a spectacular prize. Penny Collection: For over 19 years, our penny collection has been converting your generous contributions into relief for the poor and the hungry. Our November’s collection total was 197.63. The idea is that by taking small donations from many individuals each month, we will be able to gather sufficient sums that can make an impact on improving the lives of the poor. 100% of these donations goes directly to fund SHIPs programs, Thank you. Our next Penny Collection is next weekend December 6th & 7th We encourage you to keep a ‘pennies for the poor’ jar/can in your home and make this collection a family ministry. Together we can convert our individual “spare change” (and spare dollars) into an answer of Christ’s call to care for the poor. Please be aware we are unable to accept foreign currency, the counting machine cannot process these coins. 6 Alternative GiftGiving Opportunity ~ Think Outside the Box! Please join with us on the First Saturday of each month to pray the Rosary for Life. Our next gathering is Saturday December 6th immediately following the 8:00 a.m. Mass. If you are unable to attend, please consider praying the Rosary at home on this day. The Rosary is a powerful prayer to defeat the Culture of Death. Fr. Tommy Lane, a professor at Mount St. Mary's Seminary, recalled that Fr. Gabriele Amorth, the exorcist for the diocese of Rome, stated that once when he was performing an exorcism the demon said to him, "every Hail Mary is another blow on my head. If Christians knew the power of the Rosary my power would be finished." Please join in hastening the ultimate victory of Life by praying the Rosary. Atentamente, Nan Kubian The Catholic Spirit P.O. Box 191 Metuchen, NJ 08840 732/562-1990, ext.
