"There are different

Is God Calling You to Care for your Church?
The altar and linen care ministries are important to
the celebration of the Mass, although the work is done behind
the scenes.
Altar care is undertaken by parishioners that care for
both the altar and the church's interior. Tasks include checking
the candles on the altar, polishing the brass and altar furniture,
and straightening the books in the pews. This ministry can be
done at any time during the week according to each individual's schedule. Want to find out more? Contact Teresa Bone
(803-441-8857) for information or to join this reverent ministry.
The parishioners who care for the church's sacred
linens (purificators, corporals, hand towels) takes the linens
home with them once a week, launders and irons them and returns them to the church. A rotating schedule is set up for those
who do God's laundry. If you are interested in participating in
this special ministry contact Cheryl Smith (803-278-1306).
Sign ups will be after all
Masses beginning this
weekend. We ask that
each family bring a dish to
serve a minimum of 15
people according to the
first letter of your last name:
A-F Desserts
G-M Salads
N-Z Vegetables
The picnic will be at the Riverview Park Pavilion on October
12. We will begin at 11am with Mass followed by a Potluck
Picnic (the Church will provide chicken & the Knights of
Columbus Council #7062 will provide hot dogs.)
Mass intentions are requests made of the priests to
include an intention as they offer the Sacrifice of the
Mass. Only one optional monetary offering may be
accepted per Mass.

Also known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease, is a disease of
the parts of the nervous system that control voluntary
muscle movement. Nerve cells that control muscle
cells are gradually lost, causing the muscles to become
weak and eventually nonfunctional. Walking, talking,
eating, hugging and even breathing become nearly impossible, although the mind stays sharp. Most people
with ALS live 3 to 5 years after diagnosis.

OLP AUCTION NEWS UPDATE: In the event you were not in town on the weekend of
September 7th to hear the announcement about our upcoming parish fundraiser, I’d like to fill
you in! The church is hoping to raise money through an auction fundraiser to help cover the
cost of carpet replacement in the foyer and narthex areas. If we are really successful, we’d like
to give our restrooms a much needed facelift as well. I think it’s important to explain again
what we are doing with this fund raiser. To avoid asking for cash donations for major improvements such as this, we are asking, instead, that you open your garages, basements, attics,
storage buildings and even your barns and allow me and a volunteer crew to come in and
“pick” items you no longer need for a fund raiser auction. Our first auction will be in January
and we need these donated items by the middle of November. We have already had a good response from parishioners, and for that, we are most grateful. We need, however, to hear from more of you. The clock is ticking and our collection period will be over before you know it. In addition to having posted my phone number for contacting me, I have
decided to add my e-mail address for those of you who like that form of communication: ([email protected]) or 803279-7474. Again, for anyone who is reading about the planned auction in January for the first time, here is a list of
things that do well at auction but please remember, what you have may not be on the list so call, text or email anyway!!!!
Rusty stuff like what you would see in a barn
Lanterns
Antiques, including furniture
Modern, nicer, real wood furniture
Household items either new or very clean
Jewelry, even costume jewelry, even broken jewelry like that stuff you never use in the bottom of your jewelry box!!
Guy related items like tools, hunting, fishing (no guns unless 100 years old)
Military gear like helmets, backpacks and more
Older coins and stamps
Laptops, even broken ones!!! You know you have one in the closet collecting dust. I will wipe the hard drive for you!!
Advertising signs like Coca Cola and many others
DVD’s
Old pocket watches or wind-up wrist watches, especially older ones, (even broken)
Musical instruments (even broken)
Any wrought iron furniture or outdoor ornaments
Old key-wound clocks
All are invited (with or without pets) to join
OLP School and Parish for the annual Blessing of
the Pets on Friday, October 3rd at 2:00 p.m. We
will gather at the St. Francis Statue to begin our
celebration of all the living things which God has
created. Please join us to visit with our special
guests and students of our school.
