Whew! What a Great Year in Wadsworth!
I think we can all agree that it’s been a great year in Wadsworth with the yearlong celebration of Wadsworth’s 200th birthday.

Looking back at 2014 from the Wadsworth Area Chamber of Commerce view,
I am thrilled how much the Wadsworth Chamber has grown and accomplished
over this past year. We are currently 395 members strong! We hope all of our
members find significant value in what we offer to our members.

In January, we brought the non-profit organizations that serve Wadsworth and
Medina County together at the Chamber luncheon. We learned of the services
they provide and places for us to volunteer. Also, we were honored to be
included in the planning of the Medina County visit for Governor Kasich’s
“State of the State” address.
In February, the Chamber had two firsts - hosting a fun Casino Night at
Barberton Brookside and hosting a City Council Chat, in partnership with
Downtown Wadsworth, Inc., and the Wadsworth Independent Business
Association.

In March, our Annual Easter Basket Auction, combined with our 50/50 luncheon raffles, raised $6,500 for book
scholarships for Wadsworth High School graduating seniors. Thanks to the generosity of our members, we were able
to award $500 scholarships to eleven rising-star Wadsworth seniors, as well as awarding the very first $1,000 David
B. Hopkins Memorial Scholarship. Thanks to Karen Wilson, Wadsworth Real Estate, for again chairing the Easter
Basket Auction. Also in March, on a very cold Friday morning, we cut the ribbon for the new Peebles store.
In April, we found ourselves on the red carpet for The 2014 Rosie Awards to honor people, businesses and
organization that make the Wadsworth community a great place to live and work.

In May, Dr. Andy Hill, Superintendent of Wadsworth City Schools, presented his first Wadsworth “State of the
Schools Address” at the Chamber luncheon and the Chamber hosted two ribbon cutting ceremonies Cardinal Jewelry & Things and Comfort Inn & Suites. The Chamber partnered with the Bicentennial Committee
for the Wadsworth Community Night at the Ballpark. Our own Sharon Wright threw out the first pitch and crossed
that off her bucket list.
Fore! In June, it was a sold-out golf outing at Rawiga Country Club. The course was in incredible shape, the day
was absolutely gorgeous and a delicious pig roast was enjoyed by all. The golf outing is the largest fundraiser for
the Wadsworth Chamber and this year, we raised approximately $15,000.The Title Sponsors for the event were
Westfield Bank and the Medina County University Center.

In June, the Wadsworth Chamber hosted the Women Enriching Business Council with a “Shopping & Smack
your Lips Palooza on Main Street.” Approximately 50 women from all over the county discovered the treasures on
our Main Street. We also hosted two ribbon cuttings - Wonderfully Original Weddings and

not-so-new members get to know the Wadsworth Area
Chamber of Commerce. The coffees are hosted at the
Chamber office - 132-A Main Street, on the second
floor of the SaberLogic building. The purposes of these
coffees are for members to learn and understand all of
the benefits provided by the Chamber and meet other
members.

Inspectors), in partnership with Lady Royal Home
Inspections, is Thursday, January 8, 2015, 6:00 p.m., at
The Galaxy Restaurant & Banquet Center. George Wells,
developer of the MSI Home Inspection System, is the guest
speaker. Topics for discussion are marketing, report writing
and electrical. Cost is $45 includes hors d’oeuvres, dinner,

In July, I took a vacation. Woo hoo!
In September, Wadsworth hosted another Women Enriching Business Council – this time at the North Great
Oaks Plaza. The theme was “Niche Marketing,” and Jennifer Frisby, Anytime Fitness, gave a great talk at
Wadsworth Real Estate about discovering your niche. Then, it was off to visit Tractor Supply Company,
Peebles, Legacy Hair Studios and Goodwill Industries.
We were very fortunate to have Congressman Jim Renacci as our guest speaker at the September Chamber
luncheon.
In October, Will Koran, Superintendent of the Medina County Educational Services Center, facilitated
strategic planning for the Chamber’s Board of Directors. We continue to compile the information and will let the
membership know of our outcomes. The Chamber, in partnership with the City of Wadsworth and
Ohio Means Jobs, Medina County, hosted a Job and Career Fair at Wadsworth High School. There were 118
job seekers and 30 employers present. We hope some great connections were made.
The Medina County Economic Development Corporation awarded business awards to three Wadsworth
Chamber members - The Restored Church of God - Non-Profit Community Investment; Clampco Products
- Corporate Citizen of the Year; and Dr. Tom Tulisiak, Medina Hospital - Corporate Citizen of the Year Individual. Congratulations!
In November, the Chamber hosted The Third “Holiday Flavors of the Chamber,” at one of Wadsworth’s beautiful
assisted living, The Inn at CoalRidge. The Galaxy Restaurant, Domino’s Pizza, Jake’s Wayback Burgers,
Windfall Industries, Buehler’s Fresh Foods and Kasai Japanese Restaurant served our Chamber members
some of their best holiday fare.
As we wrap up this oh, so special year, we give special thanks to The Galaxy Restaurant for hosting our
luncheons. Thanks to all of the sponsors throughout the year who have generously donated to make our events
successful. We appreciate the help of Tara Bebout, Akers Insurance, for taking registration (and your money)
at the luncheons and Jennifer Frisby, Anytime Fitness, for selling the 50/50 raffle tickets at our Chamber
luncheons. On a personal note, thanks to Sharon Wright, Member Benefits Coordinator, at the Wadsworth
Chamber office, who offers support and continues to assist me in the day-to-day workings of our Chamber.

earliest effective date of coverage for the initial Open
Enrollment will be January 1, 2015. Applications with
the required premium received before the 15th of the
month will be effective the first day of the following month.

The Fifth “Come Home for the Holidays” Shop Local Program
Let the Wadsworth merchants help you check off some
of the “to buy” gifts on your holiday shopping list. We
hope you have been saving your receipts for the month of
November in the Wadsworth 44281 zip code.
“The Come Home for the Holidays” Shop Local Program,
originated by the Wadsworth Independent Business
Association (WIBA) and continued by the Wadsworth
Area Chamber of Commerce, is a reminder to shop local
this holiday season and throughout the year.
Here’s how this program works:
Bring your receipts to the Wadsworth Public Library
the week of December 1-5 (Monday-Thursday, 11:00
a.m.-7:00 p.m. and Friday, 11:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m.). Each
valid receipt is worth one raffle ticket. Let us know if
you are available to attend the prize drawing morning at
Wadsworth City Hall on Saturday morning, December 6
(10:00-11:00 a.m. - preview of prizes and place raffle
tickets for the prizes you would like to win.) If you are
unavailable on Saturday morning, your raffle tickets will
be placed in a hopper to win gift cards that, if you win, will
be mailed to you.
As you are viewing the prizes at City Hall, enjoy delicious
cookies from Sam’s Club and coffee from Sonnet’s
Espresso Bar & Restaurant. At 11:00, Mayor Robin
Laubaugh will draw the winning tickets. As a holiday
treat, $250 will be awarded to one lucky person on
Prize Drawing Day and five $50, donated by Advanced
Insurance Designs, Inc., will also be awarded.
Local businesses - Clampco, Remington Products,
Sunway Cleaners, T.J. Shannon, Luke Engineering - have
generously donated money to purchase prizes. Below are

The New Ritzman is Open!
Ritzman Pharmacy recently hosted a Ribbon Cutting
to open their newest store. The new store, located, in
downtown Wadsworth at 120 Main Street, is one of 25
Ritzman locations, including 11 pharmacies in Buehler’s
Fresh Food Markets. Ritzman Pharmacies is a family
business that specializes in natural supplements and
products, offering full-pharmacy services, as well as
a selection of Home Infusion Therapy items and the
Ritzman Med-Dose Service. The downtown Wadsworth
Ritzman Pharmacy is open Mondays-Fridays, 9:00 a.m.7:00 p.m.; Saturdays, 9:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m.; closed

Get Ready for Prospective Billing
The Last Bicentennial Event - A
Community Christmas Sing-A-Long
The Bureau of Workers’ Compensation is switching
from retrospective billing to prospective billing starting
in 2015. That means private and public employers will
pay in advance of receiving workers’ compensation
coverage. Prospective billing will help BWC modernize its
operations and provide better service to employers.
Celebrate the holiday season and enjoy the final
Bicentennial event with a Community Christmas SingA-Long on Monday, December 22 from 6:00-7:30 p.m.
on the Buehlers patio. This event is sponsored by
the Wadsworth United Methodist Church, Buehlers
Fresh Foods and the Bicentennial Committee. The
Wadsworth Community Choir, under the direction of Linda
McNamara, will perform your holiday favorites. Enjoy
hot cocoa and cookies too! Rumour has it that Santa and
Mrs. Claus will make a visit, so bring the whole family.
This is a free event; however attendees are encouraged
to bring non-perishable food items to benefit the
Wadsworth Salvation Army Food Drive. Ho, Ho, Ho!
The switch will occur July 1, 2015, for private employers
and January 1, 2016, for public employers.

The Laying of the Wreaths at the
Western Reserve National Cemetery

Bell Ringers Needed
The Wadsworth Salvation Army is looking for
volunteers to staff their Red Kettles during the
upcoming Christmas season.
Starting November 21st and running through
December 24th, the Salvation Army is looking for
individuals, groups, clubs and organizations to
volunteer to stand at one of the kettle locations.
The scheduling of this year’s kettle campaign is
being handled by Allen & Hartzell Insurance Agency.
