Fall 2014 -1- Looking for a fun and easy way to enhance the learning experiences? Check out the Lending Library! A variety of materials are available that provide hands-on learning opportunities that enhance the development of multiple skills (cognitive, physical, social-emotional, language, etc). Materials can be borrowed for up to 2 weeks by providers and parents. What providers are saying: “Our kids loved it [Space Experience Bin]. They used the floor puzzle and then took the magnetic planet pieces and matched them on the floor puzzle. They found very creative ways to use the materials. They loved the Night and Day toy so much that I have emailed the company to find out how to order it for the classroom. It was amazing to me how much more careful they were with these toys after the discussion about how these are not our toys but borrowed ones so we need to treat them with respect etc. They kept counting pieces and reminding their friends to put them away.” Preschool Program, Perry “What fun! It was great being able to use these resources. The story stretcher [If You Give A Mouse a Cookie] gave me lots of ideas to extend the book beyond just reading it. There were art activities, songs, ideas for snacks, and many more ideas.” Family Child Care home, Lansing What parents are saying: “My kids loved the Garden kit. They created a floral shop in our living room.” They are honing their math skills and interpersonal skills all while having fun. Mona, mother of three ages 20mo-4yrs old “The toys included in the kit are things that I wouldn’t buy myself so it’s wonderful that these items are available.” Jennifer, mother to 3 year old. “My son loved the dress me dolls with the zippers and buttons. He was excited to try zipping his coat all by himself.” Abby, mother to 2.5 year old What children are saying: “I had great fun playing with the Shape Sorting Cube because I could put the shape in the box.” Logan – age 4 “We played all of the games…Castle Logic was my favorite.” boy,– age 3 “The baby doll was my favorite toy because she is pretty.” Karen- age 3 For a complete list of items, visit http://hd.ingham.org/Home/OfficeforYoungChildren/LendingLibrary.aspx -2- Fall Professional Development Training Specials $23 (See Page 4 &5 inside of this newsletter for complete class descriptions) October Classroom Training Make it Take It Activities Core Knowledge and Core Competency Area Teaching and Learning Developing level October 28, 6:30 to 9:00 pm HSB, 5303 S.
