We are off to a good
start with 24 members
signed up. Some signed
up and paid dues last
spring for this year's membership.
We are planning several different types of classes
for members and for those who would like to do a
few things in Ceramics. For our members there will
be at least 3 different times and days that an experienced person will be there to help you with your
projects.
Our introduction to Ceramics will be sometime in
January and those signing up for that class will do 3
pcs of ceramics in different ways so they will have a
good understand of the way ceramics is done.
Make and Take type classes will also be offered at
different times of the year. Watch channel 7 or stop
into the room to see when these classes will take
place and we will soon have different pieces done
for you to see.
To the residents of Golden Vista, Thank You for your
support on Veterans Day/Remembrance Day . It is really
heart warming to know you support the veterans by attending the flag raising so early in the morning. A special thank
you to the VETS and Non Vets who put on the flag raising
ceremony. Those of you who attended the program that
evening were especially rewarded, the show was
"terrific". Jan outdid herself on this one. The group put on a
program that was especially relevant to the reason we take
time every year to remember those who served, died
and still serve today. Trivia: November 11th is Armistice
Day the day Germany ended the hostilities of World War I
(the 11th hour, of the 11 day and of the 11th month,
1918). Armistice Day became Decoration Day and finally
Veterans Day. It is also Remembrance Day in Canada.
We are starting another season
at Golden Vista resort, and our
Fitness Center is open for business. Already I see new people
using the equipment. Last spring
we obtained another fan bike, a
spin bike and one more nu-step. These have
been well received. Jan Miller (activities office)
has bought some equipment for us in the past and
a recumbent bike this fall. Thank you so much
Jan. She’s also been a tremendous help to us
with the BBQ's and the Fitness cCenter. Again if
residents want to donate to the club, it is $5.00 per
month per lot or $25.00 for the season. We will be
having BBQ's the third Wednesday of every month
and our meetings on the 2nd Friday of every
month in the Apache Room at 10AM.
For all residents of Golden Vista please come
in, have a look, and use the equipment.
It all helps our personal health.
We also confirmed that we were going to support the Wood
Shop when they hosted the Wednesday BBQ on November
12th. We will be hosting a Saturday breakfast later this
season, we will be selling raffle tickets at other upcoming
events to name a few plans, plus St Patty's Day Parade,
always fun event in March that ends our season.
Our first meeting of the new season was on Monday,
November 3rd. The main topic was the Veterans Day
event. Joe Litzinger our DAV member announced that the
DAV has received another gift from Hurry Cane of two cases
of canes to be given to Veterans who have a need. If you
need one come to a meeting and get a cane-you don't
need to be a club member. We also had a very good
discussion on the value of Veterans Administration Hospital
Services. Many of us are missing a valuable benefit by not
having the services of an advocate like the VFW, Am Legion
or the DAV.
We can always use members and encourage you to join
us. We are a social group who is dedicated to supporting
the Veterans of Maricopa and Pinal Counties. All money we
get goes to those organizations. The demands on your time
are minimal but very rewarding. We meet the 1st and 3rd
Monday of each month from 2pm to 3pm in the Navajo
Room.
The Rose Garden is looking good again this year, thanks to all of the work done by Tom and
Barb Dalton. It takes a lot of time to deadhead, prune and apply fertilizer throughout the summer and fall. Most of us are up north enjoying our summer time away from the resort.
We had a good group of volunteers for planting the flowers again this year. We planted a few
of the beds on Monday and Tuesday and on Wednesday we did the rest of the beds in about
three hours. The GV landscape crew had the beds all ready so the flowers are off to a good start.
We added another raised bed to the vegetable garden this year. The three beds are all planted and growing. In a few
weeks we will be bringing produce to the Apache Junction Food Bank.
Beads with Barb
The first meeting of the season was held on
November 12, 2014. The scheduling of classes
for this season is in process. Check our bulletin
board in the hall or the GVRV Web Site for
times and dates. We welcome suggestions for
classes you would like. Remember you should
bring a jump drive to all classes as nothing will
be saved to the computers. Our membership
dues are $20 per household. All classes are free
to members except those being held by Out-ofPark instructors. We meet each Wednesday at
9:30 AM in the Game and Craft Rooms above
the Library.
We are trying to find interesting speakers for our
Wednesday meetings. So far we have JABBA
Communications, SOS (serving online seniors)
and Dr. Kate scheduled. These dates will be
posted on GV7 and our board in the hall. If you
know of anyone who would be willing to speak,
please let us know. With all the new advancement in technology, our younger members could
present something which would be very interesting to everyone.
The club is in dire need of new people to come
forward as instructors and, also, at some point
new officers. As is always the case, the same
people carry the load and have been doing so for
far too long. Please, if you are a member of the
club or not, if you feel you can contribute in any
way, please contact an officer. We will work
with you until you are comfortable with whatever
you feel you are able to do.
To order business cards and labels, stop at the
computer room any time it is open to look at
samples and place an order or contact an officer of the club. Samples and order forms
will also be available after club meetings.
To place an ad with the computer club, please fill
out the form and leave with the amount due in
the Ad box in the mail hall or follow the instructions in the www.gvrv.us website.
Please, no Canadian checks.
I can't believe Christmas is just around
the corner, so here is your chance to get
some ideas for gifts:
December 5th-Temptation bracelet -this is done
with silver spacers and different size pearls and
crystals. See the sample in the case by the pool
and sign up in the hall. $40 for the class and instructions
December 12- Sunflower. This is done with two
needles. Pearls in yellow and gold look like the flowers. You can make other colors also. $40 for class.
You will want to make more for gifts.
December 19- Flat spiral- another one using
pearls and crystals . This lies flat and has lots of
sparkle. $40 for class
December 26 - Simple sparkle. Mostly all crystals,
done with two needles. This is an easy one! $40
Please sign up in the hall across from the mailboxes. Leave your phone number in case I need to get
in touch with you. All it takes is one bead and you
are hooked on beading!

wonderful blessed family time! Barb Moody

After the discussion, we will create a plan for what we want
to accomplish in a creative writing class such as how to
begin creative writing:

Next person pulled piece of paper from hat, reads, and determines how long each will write.
We will begin meeting weekly in January--until then sign up
and lets begin sharing ideas so each of us can support ways
to support and nurture facets of our deeper creative inner
self.
Any questions stop by or call me at 852 or email me at
When to let go of a poem or short story or novel and
begin again...
How to access our own creative energies
Last year in the Creative Writing Class we did the following,
which generated new creative writings:
Bring pen and notebook.
Group begins with each person writing one word or a phraseon a piece of paper.
Folded pieces are tossed in a hat or a bowl. One person
picks first piece of paper, reads the word or phrase, and
then directs the group to write between 3 and 11 minutes.
Pen is to stay in contact with the paper during the entire
time.
After time is up, each one has the option to read or not
readwhat they wrote.
Short verbal comments are made which repeat part of what
was heard that affected the one listening
NO CRITICISM AND NO NEGATIVE COMMENTS.
