Friday 21st November 2014
Dear Parents,
10
It has been another busy week in school with lots of different events taking place. Firstly, I’m delighted to announce
that last Friday’s Children In Need event raised £332 so a big thank you to our school community for your support.
The Theatre Alibi production of ‘Mucky Pup’ went well – the children clearly enjoyed it and the acting really
brought the story to life. It definitely provoked a mixture of emotions amongst children and staff! It was also a great
follow up to Monday’s anti-bullying assembly.
On Tuesday, children from across the federation competed in the Axe Valley year 5/6 swimming gala. We had 11
swimmers from Beer taking part and they swam a mixture of individual and team races. Scores were then collated to
give an overall result for the school. The final standings were Beer 5th and All Saints 2nd. Congratulations to our
swimmers (Sam & Jack Dormor, Finn Hourihan, Callum Priestley, James Doulton, Evie Rodgers, Lily Chapple,
Darcie Morton, Mollie Wilkins, Kendal Westlake and Imogen Knivett) for their energy, enthusiasm and
sportsmanship.
On Thursday morning Class 3 took part in a dance mat competition with Musbury Primary School. Hannah Oxley
from Axe Valley Community College organised the event, which took place in our school hall. Each child had the
opportunity to follow the steps, projected onto a large screen, in order to collect as many points as they could. After
an exhausting hour, Musbury won the overall challenge. The children had a really good time and enjoyed exercising
in a new way.
On Thursday afternoon 6 boys from Class 3 ran in the East Devon Cross Country Finals at Bicton Arena. We had
some stunning performances in a highly competitive race. Unfortunately we did not progress onto the Devon Finals
but all children should be incredibly proud of their efforts. First home was Harvey Green in 12th followed by Jake
Paget 22nd, Evan Hourihan 44th, Dylan Arnold 53rd, Roman Moore 57th and Adam Clinch in 72nd. Many thanks to
Natalie Green and Susie Moore for providing the transport.
Next week, on the afternoon of Wednesday 26th November, we are privileged to be welcoming GB Paralympic
Triathlete David Hill to the school. David will be leading a sponsored fitness circuit with all pupils, followed by a
question and answer session, to inspire pupils to take up sport generally and encourage them to discover and pursue
their passion in life. As stated in the sponsorship form attached to the letter last week, much of the money that is
raised will be used to buy sports equipment for the school, while also supporting Team GB and Paralympic athletes.
If you need another sponsorship form, please contact the school office.
Please make sure that children come to school on the Wednesday morning wearing their PE kits.
Next week I will be in school on Monday morning and all day Wednesday. On Tuesday Miss Porter and I will be
attending the Devon Association of Primary Heads meeting.
Christmas Production – ‘Rock Around The Flock’
The School Christmas Production ‘Rock Around The Flock’ will be taking place on Monday 8th December at
2:15pm and Tuesday 9th December at 5.30pm in the Mariners Hall.
The cost of the tickets is £2.00 for adults, £1.00 for senior citizens and 50p for children. Initially, each family will
be allowed 4 tickets only. Please return the slip below as soon as possible, stating how many tickets you require
and for which day. Also state the number of extra tickets you require and which performance you would like them
for. It is doubtful that there will be extra tickets available for the evening performance as this is very popular
so please bear this in mind. Please place your requests and the correct money in an envelope marked ‘Rock
Around The Flock’ and hand them in to the office. Please keep it separate from any dinner/breakfast club/swimming
money!
May I remind all parents that videoing on phones is permitted but its content is for personal use only. If there
are any parents/carers who object to their child being filmed then please notify the office.
Head Injuries
Currently it is common practice in school to put an ice pack on all head injuries and to send a ‘head injury’ letter out
when your child has bumped their head. We will be replacing this letter with a bumped head wristband to try and
improve the efficiency of the system, but all of the current advice will still apply. However, should you require any
further information as to how the incident occurred, then please do not hesitate to contact us.
SOS for School Crossing Patrol
I am issuing an urgent plea for parents or villagers who would be able to commit to one morning or afternoon a week
to become a member of the School Crossing Patrol Team. We are at crisis point as we only have 5 or 6 regulars.
Full training would be provided. Please pop into the office to put your name forward so that we can continue this
essential service.
Thank You Certificates
Congratulations to the following children:
