Advent
During Advent, we not only prepare ourselves to
celebrate the birth of Jesus, but we also check in to see if we
are doing all the things that will keep us ready to receive Jesus
when he comes again.
Talk to your family about how you are doing in attending
to your spiritual life as a family. Recommit yourselves to
praying daily, reading Scripture, and staying faithful to God s commandments.
Pray together that through this Advent season your family will be more
prepared to receive Jesus when he comes again.
God of Love,
Your son, Jesus, is your greatest gift to us.
He is a sign of your love.
Help us walk in that love during the weeks
of Advent,
As we wait and prepare for his coming.
We pray in the name of Jesus, our Savior.
Amen.

Advent
Advent is the four week period before
Christmas when the Church celebrates the first
coming of Christ and anticipates his second
coming. The season of Advent is focused on
the "coming" of Jesus as Messiah (Christ or
King). Our worship, scripture readings, and
prayers not only prepare us spiritually for
Christmas (his first coming), but also for his
eventual second coming. This is why the
Scripture readings during Advent include both Old Testament
passages related to the expected Messiah, and New Testament
passages concerning Jesus' second coming as judge of all people.
Also, passages about John the Baptist, the precursor who prepared
the way for the Messiah, are read. Since Advent looks forward to
Christ's birth and Incarnation, it is an appropriate way to begin the
Church Year.
However, Advent is not part of the Christmas season itself,
but a preparation for it. Thus, Catholics do not sing Christmas
hymns, or use Christmas readings, in Mass until December 25th,
the first day of the Christmas season.

Jesse Tree - Giving to those in Need:
November 15 thru December 7
The annual outreach for those in need during the
Christmas holidays is starting. We will be supporting
children, teens and adults with disabilities who are
receiving assistance from Catholic Charities. We will
be collecting items for general distribution for
Christmas as well as throughout the year.
Take an ornament from the Jesse Tree. Stars have items needed
for teens and adults, and the Hearts have items needed for
children of all ages.
No need to wrap the items! The organization needs to see
what the gifts are to better match them to their clients. All items
MUST be under the Jesse Tree by Sunday, December 7th.
Annual Thanksgiving/Holiday Food Drive:
Just ONE Can (or Box or Bag!!!)
Oct. 20th thru Dec. 21st
The holidays are FAST approaching! Many of us
anxiously await these special holidays in anticipation of
the delicious foods we will share with our families. The poor and
those in need are just hoping for a hot meal. This Thanksgiving
and Christmas let us help to set their tables with bountiful foods
to share with their loved ones! Shopping lists are available on
the altar railings and at the back of the church.
Although ALL food items are appreciated, the most critical
items needed are: rice and beans (2, 3 or 5lb. bags/boxes),
crackers, peanut butter, jelly, boxes of stuffing and potatoes,
gravy, canned/powdered milk, cereal, canned fruits and
vegetables.
Thank you for living the Corporal Works of Mercy
by feeding the hungry!

Adwent to szczególny splot dziejów Boga i ludzi. Mie ci w

dzia ania Jezusa Chrystusa, który jest wczoraj, dzi i na wieki.
Our Thanksgiving Family Mass was a
beautiful celebration of Eucharist made
especially poignant by the beauty of the children
presenting us with a story of Thanksgiving and
also by the bountiful presentation of a harvest at the altar.
We are grateful to the children and the teachers for their part
of this beautiful rendition of Thanksgiving.
Another part of Thanksgiving tradition at St. Stanislaus is
our annual Thanksgiving Day family dinner. Thanks to the Social
Concerns Committee and many volunteers a true meaning of
Thanksgiving was expressed lovingly and received thankfully by
many.
With love and gratitude, Fr. Roman
