The hound must complete the entire course with enthusiasm and without interruption. Qualifying Courser (QC): Open to all eligible sighthounds. The qualifying hound will run with another hound, completing a (minimum) 600-yard course with a minimum of 5 turns. The qualifying hound must complete the entire course with enthusiasm, without interruption, and without coursing, interfering with, or aggressing on the other hound. Owner of qualifying dog must provide or arrange for a hound of like running style for their hound to run with in this test. Stakes Offered Open: Open only to hounds of eligible breed, with no breed disqualifications, that hold an AKC QC certificate OR have run in the Open Stake prior to Jan. 1, 2010, OR have a Senior Courser title OR have an ASFA or CKC field champion title. (a copy of this title must be attached to the entry form if the QC requirement is to be waived). Championship points are awarded from this stake. Open Veteran: Open only to hounds that are eligible to enter either Open or Special Stake, and are of Veteran age as determined by their Parent Breed Club. Championship or LCX points may be awarded from this stake. Special: Open only to hounds that are eligible to enter the Open Stake and have earned their AKC Field Championship title. ALL DOGS RUN AT OWNERS SOLE RISK NOTICE TO ALL EXHIBITORS Coursing Ability tests are open to all dogs 12 months of age or older that are individually registered with AKC, recognized foreign registries, possess an FSS number, pal # ILP # or canine partner program number, open to all sighthounds as well as those with breed disqualifications . Mixed breeds must be spayed or neutered to be eligible to run. AKC registered dogs with breed disqualifications may be entered. Not AKC registered? – NO PROBLEM! You will be able to register your Canine Partner with AKC at the event, and your dog can participate in the tests that very same day. Simply fill out the Canine Partners Enrollment Application located at the end of this premium list and turn it in to the Secretary along with your entry form and fees. Dogs that are overweight and/or out of condition may be at greater risk for injury and exhaustion. The Inspection Committee has the authority to disallow a dog’s entry into a test, and in such instances, applicable entry fees will be refunded. Battery powered, continuous loop lure machines will be used. The lure will consist of white plastic strips. Backup equipment will be available. Exhibitors should follow their veterinarian’s recommendation to assure their dogs are free of parasites, any communicable d iseases and have appropriate vaccinations. The Huntmaster is responsible for field safety and therefore he/she is in complete charge of all dogs and handlers on the field. In service to this responsibility, he/she has the authority to stop the lure in any potentially dangerous situation and signal the handler to retrieve a testing dog. Any decisions made by the event’s officiating judge(s) regarding the performance of an entered dog shall be final. Full discretionary power is given to the judge(s) to withhold any and all qualifications for lack of merit. The Judge(s) is responsible for ensuring compliance with the AKC Regulations on the field. No entry fees will be refunded if the event cannot be started or completed by reason of riots, civil disturbances, fire, extreme and/or dangerous weather conditions, an act of God, public emergency, act of a public enemy, strikes or any other cause beyond the control of the Club or its members and representatives. ADDITIONAL NOTES ABOUT CAT RUNS WHAT MUST MY DOG DO TO PASS THE C.A.T.? The Coursing Ability Test (C.A.T.) is a pass/fail test. In order to pass, the dog must chase the plastic lure, and complete the course 1 time, by itself, with enthusiasm and without interruption within the maximum amount of time. The judge keeps the official time and decides the merits of the dog’s performance. If there is a question which course a dog should run, the judge will decide. DOGS LESS THAN 12” TALL & “FLAT FACED” DOGS*. Any entrant that is less than 12” tall at the withers and/or brachycephalic (bulldog) will run a clearly marked 300-yard course that is basically rectangular in shape with turns no more acute than 90 degrees. For a 300-yard course, a dog must complete the test in less than 1 ½ minutes. *SEE LIST ON PAGE 4 DOGS MORE THAN 12” TALL. Any entrant that is taller than 12” at the withers and not brachycephalic shall run a clearly marked 600-yard course (or as close to 600 yards as possible) that is basically rectangular in shape with turns no more acute than 90 degrees. For a 600-yard course, a dog must complete the test in less than 2 minutes. CAN MY DOG EARN AN AKC TITLE FOR COURSING ABILITY? Three titles will be awarded for dogs that pass the Coursing Ability Test the required number of times. These are suffix titles that will appear on a dog’s pedigree with a higher-level title superseding a lower level title. Coursing Ability (CA) – Awarded to a dog that passes the Coursing Ability Test three times under at least two different judges. Coursing Ability Advanced (CAA) - Dog passes the Coursing Ability Test ten times. Coursing Ability Excellent (CAX) – Dog passes the Coursing Ability Test 25 times. Coursing Ability Excellent 2 (CAX2) – Dog passes the Coursing Ability Test 50 times. A higher numbered title will be awarded for every additional 25 passes. WHAT IF MY DOG IS SICK THAT DAY? Please do not bring a sick or lame dog, or a female in-season, to this event. Call the secretary and cancel your entry. Your entry fees will be refunded.. HANDLING. Dogs should run naked or wearing a close fitting buckle collar. Choke collars and collars with tags or dangling decoration will not be allowed. Slip leads can be used if the owner desires and will be provided to borrow. Dogs should have a reliable recall and be retrieved promptly by the owner/ handler at the end of the course. There will be a $5per minute course delay penalty for any owner who takes longer than one minute to retrieve their dog. ROLL CALL and INSPECTION~ dogs will be inspected by a designated Inspection Committee consisting of at least two persons designated by the Field Committee and who shall inspect each entered dog for lameness, fitness to compete and female estrus (in season). In the opinion of the Inspection Committee, any entry found to be lame, unfit to compete, or in season, your dog will not be allowed to run and the entry fees shall be refunded. *BRACHYCEPHALIC DOGS (If you have a question about whether or not your breed is considered Brachycephalic or not, PLEASE check with your AKC Parent Club for your breed) General Information • All entries must be one year of age or older on the day of the trial. • Hounds not present at the time of roll call will be scratched after a 5 minute grace period and no refund will be given. • Stakes may be split if sufficient entries are present in any one stake at the time of the draw to support more than one 5-point Major. • Bitches in season and lame hounds will be excused. I (we) agree that the determination of whether the injury is serious shall be made by the event veterinarian and is binding on me (us).
