Felix clinches
masters title
FELIX Haug defeated Nousha Pajouyan to claim his first masters championship in the third JC’s Grand Pirx Masters Tennis Championship, sponsored
by Nandos.
The gymnast turned tennis player Felix took
full advantage of the absence of Croatian Maro
Ugarkovic to claim the title.
Top seed Arvind Pemmuraji defeated Charles
T’Kint to record his maiden victory while newcomer Rayaan Razi Amin also crowned a fine run
defeating a much improved Anushree Kotwal 6–2
in the final set.
All masters qualifiers received medals. The
JC’s Tennis Academy is based at Riffa Views
International School and is currently accepting
applicants wishing to join for the Winter/Spring

Ashwin beat Tristan Manners of
Great Britain 4-2 in the final and not

meeting of the heads of the
championship’s committees.
The international event will
be held in Bahrain from
Thursday to Friday under
the patronage of Supreme
Council for Youth and Sports
Chairman and Bahrain
Olympic Committee President
Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al
Khalifa.
They discussed the latest
preparations for the event and
the opening ceremony.
Meanwhile, Shaikh Salman
followed up on Bahrain national
team’s preparations for the
championship, and expressed
confidence that the team can
achieve outstanding results in
the event.

finished third in the Battle of Bars,
organised in Dubai by World
Calisthenics Organisation.
Calisthenics is a form of
exercise consisting of a variety
of rhythmic movements,
generally without using any
equipment or apparatus. They
are intended to increase body
strength and flexibility with
movements such as bending,
jumping, swinging, twisting or
kicking, using only one’s body
weight for resistance.
When performed vigorously
and with variety, Calisthenics
can benefit both muscular and
cardiovascular fitness, in addition
to improving psychomotor skills
such as balance, agility and
coordination.
Battle of Bars is a popular event
in the US and it was held in Dubai
last week, a first of its kind in the
Middle East.
Kuwait finished first and Egypt
second.
Thai Martial Arts Bahrain was
started in September 2013 and
provides Muay Thai classes.

of the Indian Club Centenary Open Tennis Tournament
played yesterday at the Indian
Club.
In the super singles, Yousuf
Qued marched on after fellow
Bahraini Karim Abdul Nabi
retired hurt while trailing behind at 2-3 in the first set.
BAHRAIN’S billiards ace Hussain
Al Khayyat came back strong to
beat Kuwait’s Saudi Al Enezi 6-5
in the opening match of the 10th
GCC Billiard and 17th Snooker
Championships being held in
Doha.
Kuwaiti star Al Enezi was close to
winning the match when he lead
5-1, but Bahrain’s Al Khayyat
staged a brilliant comeback to
upset the Kuwaiti.
In the snooker team category,
Bahrain’s Hamed Dhaif and
teammate Younis Sager both won
their matches 4-1.
In the over-40 years categroy,
Bahrain’s Abdulmonem Al
Shuwaikh won his match 4-2.

organised by the Bahrain Tennis
Federation (BTF).
The under-8 category
matches will start today. The
championship, which is being
held at the BTF premises in
Isa Town, will conclude on
Wednesday night.
