Lehman Family YMCA rendering Dear friends, THANK YOU TO THE FOLLOWING: •C OMMUNITY FOUNDATION OF GREATER FORT WAYNE - $42,500 for the YMCA’s youth development programs, which nurture the potential of children and teens in our community. •T HE ANDERSONS, INC. - $25,000 toward the construction of the Caylor-Nickel Family Foundation YMCA in Wells County. MISSION PARTNERSHIPS YMCA Mission Partners provide financial resources to strengthen our community and move us all forward. The continued support of these companies allows the YMCA to carry out our mission - making a meaningful, enduring impact in our community. •C HARLES W. KUHNE CHARITABLE TRUST - $10,000 to support the Status Offender Court Alternative Program (SOCAP), a delinquency prevention and intervention program that works to keep youth in school and on track to graduation. Over the last several months, I’ve received many inquiries concerning the Northeast Y on St. Joe Center Road, officially named Jackson R. Lehman Family YMCA. As many of you may recall, the YMCA purchased 25 acres about 2 ½ years ago in order to build a family YMCA on the property. If you are not familiar with our site it is between Reed Rd. and Maplecrest on the south side of St. Joe Center Rd. It is our goal to raise approximately $7 million dollars in order to build this YMCA. I am happy to report that we have raised $2.5 million dollars toward this project. If all goes well with fundraising we hope to begin building sometime next year. I know we have received a lot of requests for certain amenities and we will do our best to build a facility that will serve the community well. It is important for you to know that as a nonprofit organization, fundraising is essential so that we can continue to serve all people regardless of their economic status. Our cause is always to strengthen the foundation of the community and we do that by providing programs that are essential and making sure that money is not a barrier in order to participate. • WELLS COUNTY FOUNDATION - $20,000 for construction of the childcare center at the Caylor-Nickel Family Foundation YMCA in Wells County, which will meet a critical community need for full-day licensed childcare. As a member of the YMCA you are a part of a community service organization that has a servant leader mentality. This means that we frequently evaluate the impact of the Y and how we can serve you better. •D R. LOUIS & ANNE B. SCHNEIDER FOUNDATION - $150,000 to support the construction of the new Jackson R. Lehman Family YMCA, which will serve thousands of northeast Fort Wayne residents who have never before experienced the impact of a YMCA. Thank you for being a member. We want you to have a great experience at the Y and we look forward to doing great things together. On June 20, we celebrated with the Whitley County Family YMCA community as we broke ground at the site of the new Early Learning Center in Columbia City. Thank you for all your continued support of the YMCA as we strive to meet the growing needs of our community. HOW CAN WE SERVE YOU BETTER? Facebook.com/gfwymca FindYourselfAtTheY.org •F LORA DALE KROUSE FOUNDATION - $20,000 for the Renaissance Pointe YMCA’s Integrative Arts Program, which partners with local arts organizations to provide a variety of arts opportunities to low-income youth. • L INCOLN FINANCIAL FOUNDATION - $42,000 to nurture the potential of youth and children through the Renaissance Pointe Y Summer Learning Program, YMCA Camp Potawotami Outdoor Education Program and the YMCA Before & After School Program at Southwick Elementary School. CONSTRUCTION UPDATE Work is continuing on the CaylorNickel Foundation Family YMCA in Wells County. Water and electric have been installed and NIPSCO has connected gas service. Windows are being installed and masonry work is continuing on the pool and in the child care area. The project is scheduled to be completed in December 2014. Members of the new Y will be able to enjoy their workouts and spend quality time with family and friends at this new facility. FUELING YOUR FAITH CONFERENCE One way the Y promotes our mission is by hosting an annual Christian Conference. This year’s theme, “All In,” and scripture verse, Colossians 3:17, reflects that when we are “All In,” in spirit, mind and body, there is no limit to what God can accomplish through us. By empowering our community with this belief we strengthen the foundation of the community as a whole. The 2014 Fueling Your Faith Conference will be held on Saturday, October 11th at The Summit and features great speakers, music, entertainment, fellowship and FUN! FALL 2014 | SPIRIT PREVENTION LIFESTYLE SUPPORT YMCA’S Diabetes Prevention Program FREE 7TH GRADE MEMBERSHIP 7th grade is a pivotal and transitional time for many teens. It is a time when sports become more competitive and provide less opportunity for the average child to be involved in physical activity. It is also the time when teens are given more freedom to choose how they spend their free time. Habits that begin in the 7th grade are likely to continue into adulthood. The YMCA of Greater Fort Wayne wants to support and encourage kids to make good decisions and form healthy habits that lead to a healthy lifestyle. This September, for the 2nd year in a row, we are providing a FREE membership to every 7th grader residing in Allen, Whitley or Wells County. Students thrive in a safe environment enabling them to grow in spirit, mind and body. A parent or legal guardian must authorize participation and give proof of 7th grade status. Parent/guardian and student must attend an orientation (see http://www.fwymca.org/7th_grade_ membership.php for list of orientation dates). Once orientation is completed, 7th graders can register for their membership. It’s that simple. Email HereForYou@fwymca. org with questions. NEW FACES, NEW PLACES!
