Dear Parish Family
A suitable place for the presence of God to dwell.
On this Fourth and final week of Advent… we recall that we are to WATCH (keep
vigilance), PREPARE (make room, follow the way of the Lord each day), to be a
VOICE (proclaiming, giving comfort, standing up) and now…let us look at the dwelling.
Worried about a suitable place for the dwelling of God (Ark of the Covenant) … one was
built. Choosing a suitable place for the dwelling of Christ … one was found – Mary. We, too,
bring forth the presence of Christ…for we receive the real presence of Christ in the Sacrament
of the Eucharist. Are we suitable enough for the Lord to dwell within us? Is our home a suitable place for the presence of Christ to dwell? Is our community…our world a suitable place?
We have to be the ones … by keeping WATCH….by PREPARING each day…by being
VOICES of justice and charity that make our world, our homes, our lives suitable for the presence of Christ to DWELL.
As we await His return in glory…let us pause to celebrate His birth in time at the Christ Mass…and let us re-dedicate
ourselves to these notions of Advent (WATCH, PREPARE, VOICE, DWELLING)
BE BOLD…..BE CATHOLIC®
Have a good week,
THE WEEK AHEAD….

PARISH ANNOUNCEMENTS
DEACON CORBY’S CORNER
WHO STARTED CHRISTMAS
A woman was out Christmas shopping with her two children.
After many hours of looking at row after row of toys and everything else imaginable, and after hours of hearing both of her
children asking for everything they saw on those many shelves,
she finally made it to the elevator with her two kids.
She was feeling what so many of us feel during the holiday
season this time of the year. Overwhelming pressure to go to
every party, every housewarming, taste all the holiday food and
treats, getting that perfect gift for every single person on our
shopping list, making sure we don't forget anyone on our card
list, and the pressure of making sure we respond to everyone
who sent us a card.
Finally the elevator doors opened and there was already a
crowd in the elevator car. She pushed her way into the elevator
car and dragged her two kids in with her along with all of her
bags of stuff.
When the doors closed she couldn't take it any longer and stated, "Whoever started this whole Christmas thing should be
found, strung up and shot."
From the back of the car everyone heard a quiet calm voice
respond, "Don't worry we already crucified Him."
For the rest of the trip down the elevator it was so quiet you
could have heard a pin drop.
As we enter the Christmas shopping season, let us remember
this year to keep the One who started this "whole Christmas
thing" in your every thought, deed, purchase, and word. If we
all do this, just think of how different this whole Christmas
experience would be.
God bless you and have a very
Merry Christmas with Christ in it.

CHOIR PRESENTATION ON CHRISTMAS EVE
The St. Joseph Adult Choir will be performing the cantata,
“Night of the Father’s Love” by Pepper Choplin on Christmas
Eve before the 5 PM Mass. This beautiful 35 minute cantata
tells the story of Christmas with all the mystery, the awe, and
the excitement, as though hearing it for the first time. Three
narrators interject with familiar
scripture passages, and personal
reflections, while an intriguing
array of musical styles beautifully
express the essence of Christmas:
the gift of the Father’s love.
The choir will start the cantata at
4:25 PM on Christmas Eve so
please make plans now to come
early so you can experience the
complete musical experience prior to the 5 PM Christmas Eve
Mass.
DECEMBER FOOD PANTRY NEEDS:

BIBLE STUDY
Mt 16:13-20 Simon (Peter) is able to discern that Jesus is the
Messiah, Son of God. The Jewish leadership, the teaching authority, did not. This revelation was a gift of God and not man
(the teaching authorities). Finally, because of his proclaimation
Jesus changed Simon's name to Peter – rock, on which His
Church was to be built. God changed the names of others who
were key in the foundation of the covenent family and describes the roles they were to play: Abram – Abraham , Siri –
Sarah, Jacob – Israel. You can read more about Peter's role in
the Catechism (CCC553) Finally, in verses 12-28 Jesus tells
what the establishment of His kingdom requires. Peter does not
understand that Jesus must die and parallels the temptation of
Christ in the desert. Peter, the rock, becomes a stumbling stone.
Join us in lively discussions this and every Sunday in the Parish
Center, 8:00-9:30 AM as we examine the Lord's word in depth
and discuss how to incorporate it into our daily lives.

RESPECT LIFE CORNER
Prepare for Christ’s Coming – This weekend is the winter
solstice, when we experience the shortest day and the longest
night of the year. Advent is about waiting in the uncertainty of
darkness. Learn, Act, Connect, Pray: Think about the times
you have waited in the dark with a family member. Perhaps it
was illness, or maybe fear, or simply a power outage that kept
you in vigil together. Disperse the darkness today by keeping
your Advent candles burning a bit longer. Pray the Rosary and
meditate on the Luminous Mysteries.
STEWARDSHIP GARDENS
Brothers and Sisters in Christ:
Apprentice Stewards: As you approach your First Communion
you have learned so many things. Now you will begin putting
many of them into practice. You are still an apprentice. Still
learning but you are old enough to know what is right and
wrong, what you should and should not do or say. Now you
start thinking about Stewardship. Think about the gifts and
blessings God has given you to take care of and make grow.
You will make mistakes but God has made it possible to make
it right. It is called Reconciliation or Confession. Tell Jesus
about the situation. Ask Him to help you make things right and
not do it again. He tells you through the priest. I know, you
learned that, but think of being a steward. God gave you grace
and asked that you do what is right. You made a mistake and
now have to learn how to fix it. Remember, one of the jobs of a
steward is to show others what Christ is like and what living a
life like Christ is all about. It's part of your job. Like your mom
or dad showing or telling you what to do and you goof up. You
tell them and they help you make it right. They love you and
want you to do your best. So does God.
Maybe at dinner time or after dinner when you are with your
family you can tell your mom and dad what was the best thing
that happened and then thank God for that. Next, tell them what
was the bad thing that happened and talk about how to fix it,
then tell it to Jesus and ask Him to help you with that too. Then
talk about what is worrying you about tomorrow. Ask the Holy
Spirit to show you what to do. Sounds like a prayer too. You
are right, it is.
Something to remember. As you learn and do things properly,
God will give you more responsibility. Just like at home. You
are learning to be a first rate Steward. Sometimes you will be
worried but do not be afraid. God always gives you everything
you need to do the job. Trust in God – Always.
May our Lord God bless, guide, prosper and make bountiful the
work of all His stewards. In the name of Jesus Christ we pray.
