professional artists;
others art educators, Schmooze Room by Margaret Singer
and some found their
expressive talents later in life. Collectively, their work offers insight into the emotions
that extended prior to, through, and after the Holocaust.
Featured artists include Ralph Baxter, Erika Kahn, Edie Ostern, Bernhard Penner,
Maria Segal, Margaret Singer, and Nora Wiedmann.

celebrated Navajo jeweler Raymond
Yazzie to the Smithsonian National
Museum of the American Indian
(New York) exhibition, Glittering
World: Navajo Jewelry of the Yazzie
Family. The gold cuff, inlaid with 681
semiprecious stones, was made by
Raymond Yazzie in 1983 and retails for
$85,000.
The Glittering World exhibition, on
view through January 10, 2016, features

almost 300 examples of contemporary
jewelry made by several members of the
Yazzie family.

A cocktail hour, silent auction, and
celebrity red carpet session led the way into
the evening. Guests enjoyed a fine dining
followed by a performance by Bill Medley
of the Righteous Brothers and his daughter,
Grammy-nominated McKenna Medley. The
live auction was led by Andrew Firestone,
accompanied by his wife, actress Ivana
Bozilovic.
John Paul DeJoria was presented the 2014
Humanitarian Award by longtime supporter
and Dream Maker Bill Nicholson. DeJoria,
co-founder of John Paul Mitchell Systems
and The Patrón Spirits Company, has helped
dream recipients and their families since 2002.
Genentech was presented the 2014
Outstanding Corporate Partner Award. The
South San Francisco-based biotechnology
company is committed to treating
diseases beyond scientific
development by helping patients
realize their dreams.

Portals: Juror Talk with Thomas Van Stein

ORTALS JUROR, Thomas
Van Stein, will offer a talk
on Sunday, December
21st, from 1 to 3pm at
the Carpinteria Arts Center
Gallery. Portals, an exhibition
featuring over 60 works by area
artists, will be on view through
January 5th.
“My juror’s talk is meant
to educate the audience about
my decision making process: to
verbally articulate my method
of critical thinking and problem
solving,” shared Van Stein. “As
juror my job is to be decisive,

and be willing to back up my
decisions and subject myself to
the challenges, ideas, and awareness’s from those who are present.”

HOMAS VAN STEIN, EL MIEMBRO DEL JURADO DE LA EXHIBICIÓN PORTALES, ofrecerá una

de Carpinteria. Portales, una exhibición que cuenta con más de 60 obras por artistas
