Film stars, politicians and
thousands of football fans are
expected to come to D.Y. Patil
stadium in Nerul on Saturday to
watch the India Super League
finals. It will be played between
Kerala Blasters FC and winner of
second semifinal of the second
leg, which will be played between
FC Goa and Atletico de Kolkata.
The traffic department has made
special arrangement for vehicular
movement. 'No parking' zone has
been made around the stadium to
avoid traffic congestion. Vehicles
coming from Mumbai will not
able to take right turn at LP
junction for Nerul node. All the
vehicles can enter Nerul from
Uran Phata. Similarly, vehicles
from Nerul cannot take SionPanvel highway from LP
junction. They have to go via
Palm Beach Road. Even vehicles
coming from Panvel will have to
enter Nerul from Uran Phata
instead of LP junction.
Garbage
proposal to
take off in
January
The general body and standing
committee of NMMC may have
cleared the garbage collection and
transportation proposal this
month but the actual work is
likely to take off by January end.
Now contractors are planning to
buy new 119 vehicles and small
tempos for collection of garbage
and its transportation. They will
start their work from one ward
and then expand to other nodes,
informed a senior official of
NMMC.

Fadnavis on Thursday,
informed the state
Legislative Council at
Nagpur that the proposed
international airport in
Navi Mumbai is expected
to be operational by 2019.
Responding to a
question raised by
Congress leaders Sanjay
Dutta and Bhai Jagtap and
others, Fadnavis said the
process of getting permits
and licences from the
various departments will be
completed by next January
and the first phase of the
airport will begin
operations by 2019.
The proposed airport
has already acquired 592hectares of land and all
major clearances had been
received. “Only a few sanctions
are pending and we expect to have
all the clearances by January
2015,” he said.

Belapur: The Navi Mumbai
Municipal Corporation (NMMC)
is ready to build additional toilets
against the existing 416 toilets
under its jurisdiction if the
Bombay High Court directs it to
do so.
“While the matter is still in
court, if we get directives from the
High Court, we will definitely
build more toilets for the
convenience of the residents,”
remarked A.L. Jarhad,
Commissioner, NMMC.

Commuters demand
better security at
Seawoods station

With beggars,
urchins and illegal vendors
occupying the platform, security
has gone for a toss at Seawoods
railway station. The residents
allege that these beggars not only
harass the commuters but also
misuse the public facility being
provided at the station.
