Good-bye to our Year 6 Students
Dear parents, friends and carers,
It is hard to believe that this is the final newsletter for 2014! I
warmly wish everyone a safe and enjoyable holiday season.
Year 6 Celebration of their Primary Years
On Wednesday evening we had the Year 6 Celebration of their
Primary Years. This was an opportunity to celebrate and
acknowledge our current Year 6 children’s past seven years at
Footscray Primary School. The current Year 6 children have
been an outstanding and unique group. This year’s group have
stepped up and demonstrated courage which is an important
disposition for learning. Some of their achievements
throughout 2014 have been;
1. Researched and designed personalised inquiries for
their exhibition around how the media has shaped our
view of the world. This required and challenged them to
apply their skills of being a researcher, collaborator,
thinker and self-manager.
2. Participated as part of being in different ‘Action
Leadership Teams’.
3. Public Speaking at assembly.
4. Participated in many sporting events against other
schools.
While these have been the big things I would like to commend
our current Year 6 children for being friendly and caring
members of our community. The children have demonstrated a
strong self-belief in a range of areas. I encourage you to never
lose the ability to speak up and stand up to what you believe.
Highlights of the evening were the Vietnamese dance, the
African drumming and the way the students presented so
clearly and confidently. Special thank you to Andrew Gray who
over saw the change and organisation of the evening. I think
part of the success of the evening was that it was held at our
school in the context we are familiar with. Thank you to the
parents who assisted on the evening and especially to Darren
and Sally who supported with the set-up of the amazing
backdrop to the stage area and Dean and Julia (who don’t
have children in Year 6) who supported with sound and the
choir!
Congratulations also to the following students who received
awards.
