You may have the greatest bunch of individual stars in the world, but if they don’t play together, the club won’t be worth a dime. -Babe Ruth Here at Brookstone we recognize that there are many individuals and groups who help educate our students. It would be impossible to be successful both on and off the field without the dedication of a hard-working coaching staff, a facilities department committed to our school, a Brookstone Parents Association selflessly giving for our students, and a Board of Trustees dedicated to providing a first-class campus. There is so much behind the game that is being played. Without the help of parents, students, and the faculty/staff we would not be able to live out our mission of educating the whole child. We value athletics as a component of our whole child philosophy. Academic achievement, we believe, is only one aspect of nurturing a healthy child. The importance of extracurricular activities in the athletics and the arts helps raise well-rounded students. From our servant leadership program to the Honor Council, from the One Act play to student government, our Brookstone students constantly shine and succeed in a multitude of roles. We endeavor to support this growth in order to live out our mission. BROOKSTONE HEADMASTER Dear Brookstone community: Good luck to all the teams as we go forth modeling sportsmanship and healthy competition! Go Cougars! Brian Kennerly Brookstone Spirit Book 2011-12 | 9 A T HL E T IC Once again, it is my pleasure to welcome you to Brookstone School and what I expect to be another exciting year of Cougar athletics. The 2010-2011 school year proved to be another highly successful year for our athletic program. Brookstone finished 3rd overall in the Class A Director’s Cup competition, once again recognizing our school as having one of the top sports program in our classification in the state of Georgia. Brookstone finished the year by winning eight region/area championships and our boys golf team repeating as state champions. D I R E C T O R I continue to be amazed by our student-athletes. Most of our student-athletes play two or more sports and are involved in many other school activities such as the fine arts, service organizations, and other positions of leadership throughout our school. They somehow manage to find the time to do all the things they do and still maintain an extremely high standard of academic achievement. Everyone connected with Brookstone School is proud of our young men and women for their commitment and dedication, and for the way they represent our school. It is my hope that you will take the opportunity to come out as often as possible to support our athletes throughout the year. Brookstone is fortunate to have a coaching staff, consisting of both full-time and community coaches, that in my estimation is second to none. Not only do our coaches do a tremendous job of teaching and coaching their respective sports, they excel at serving as outstanding role models for the athletes. Obviously we strive to win each time we enter a contest. However, far more important than the final score are the character-building lessons learned through athletic participation led by our staff. For any athletic program to be successful it must rely on the help of volunteers. I would like to personally thank the countless number of volunteers who give of themselves tirelessly on behalf of our athletes and coaches. Without your support the athletic program at Brookstone School would not be what it has been and continues to be. Please know that you are truly appreciated. Good luck to all of our teams and it is my sincere hope that each of you has a safe and successful school year! Todd Stanfill Athletic Director 10 | Brookstone Spirit Book 2011-12 “Our greatest glory is not in never failing, but in rising every time we fall.” -Vince Lombardi At Brookstone School, we are constantly challenging and supporting our students not only in the academic arena but also outside the classroom through our wide variety of extracurricular activities. To see if a skill has truly been learned, it must be tested. One place to test such missionbased attributes as integrity, responsibility, and respect are through our athletic contests. Whether it be a loss, tie, or win, students grow from every contest. At my previous two schools, athletics played a large part in developing character and leadership in the young men and young women who participated. I look forward to my first year here watching the Brookstone Cougars test themselves on the fields, the mats, the trails, and the courts. Go Cougars! Manning Weir Upper School Principal middle school B R O O K S T O N E P R I N CIP A L S upper school We at Brookstone School encourage students to stretch and to grow academically and personally. The opportunity to participate in athletics is one of many benefits of a Brookstone experience where students are challenged both in the classroom and on the playing field. Our coaches support Brookstone School’s mission of developing life-long learners who demonstrate mutual respect, integrity, honor, and service to others. We are proud of our athletes and their coaches. Also, we are blessed in the Middle School to have such supportive fans and parents. Enjoy the game!
