Community Fund Update Everyone Needs
Help Sometimes
One of the questions we hear regularly is, "Why should I give?" The answer is simple
because the needs of our community are great and only by working together can we
create lasting change. Imagine a child impacted by the hunger and poverty of the student
next to them. Imagine an adult at work, impacted by a coworker's health issues. Imagine
any person in our community, impacted by the everyday struggles of those around them.
We are all connected; everyone can give sometimes and everyone needs help

sometimes. "I never thought I'd be on the receiving end of UWCNM's work," said a Community Fund
donor who chose to remain anonymous. "But I recently dealt with a situation that I never
expected someone from my past stalking me. I was so grateful for the help and support I
received at the Albuquerque Family Advocacy Center. Their guidance was invaluable."
Each year, UWCNM raises funds for the work that helps those most vulnerable in our
area. These funds go to programs that make a difference in the lives of more than 250,000
people in central New Mexico. Every gift to the Community Fund creates measurable
improvements where we live, work, and play. That is why we ask you to support the work
of the Community Fund and UWCNM. Thank you for helping us bring our community
together to make a difference for us all. These programs don't just help the recipients
they create a better community for everyone. Please visit our website for more information about the Community Fund.

from dollars to people, and their
Leadership donors from Sandia National Labs enjoy an evening of

employees came through on
both! The preliminary results are
$6,187,358, which represents
an increase of $267,992 in
employee and retiree
contributions. WOW! Factoring
in gifts that are still expected
through early January, their total
campaign will likely exceed
$6.3M.
Sandia's participation rate is an
impressive 77%, with nearly
every division showing an
increase from last year. 83 ECP
Representatives worked
diligently to reach all Sandians
and coordinated fun activities
within their divisions.
The final total will be released in
the spring, but we want to thank
Sandia now for their hard work
and commitment to central New
Mexico. Sandia ROCKS!
Mission: Graduate
Update
Did you read the November
Mission: Graduate (M:G)
newsletter? If you didn't, you
can find it on the M:G website. A
few highlights:

Learn about Proactive
Completion, an initiative
for students transferring
from CNM to UNM
support of the Community Fund from so many companies and donors. We have just over 15% of all workplace campaigns final, which means there is still a lot of
pledge form collecting, donation counting and reporting to go. We also had several of our
top campaigns kick off in November or extend a November campaign timeline. And, we
have received about 61% of our Tocqueville recommitments.
However, it's certainly not too late!
If your company hasn't yet run a workplace campaign, but would still like to do so,
please contact Maren Dalton
If you would like to make your recommitment to the Tocqueville Society or have a
potential new member to suggest, please contact Melissa Dracup
If you'd like to give all or part of your gift to support one of the Affinity Group grant
initiatives (Hispano Philanthropic Society's Middle School Initiative, Women's Self
Sufficiency or Young Leaders Society's High School Initiative) or support Affinity
Group events in 2015, please contact Alice Keator
Again, if you've already given this year thank you!
Cornerstone Challenge Update
Everything we do at UWCNM is possible because of our Cornerstone Partners:
Helping those most vulnerable by ensuring the distribution and management of
more than 100 Community Fund grants that serve 200,000 people;
Strengthening our community by building initiatives that change systems, align
and coordinate key services, such as the Family Advocacy Center, 211, the
Center for Nonprofit Excellence, Tax Help NM and Mission: Graduate.
Increasing philanthropy by supporting the administrative costs of processing the
generous gifts of more than 30,000 donors annually.
Bank of Albuquerque has generously increased their Cornerstone gift and issued a
challenge to other Cornerstone Partners and companies continue to step up. We are
pleased to announce that we now have increased giving from JB Henderson
Construction, Sandia Peak Ski & Tram, SUMCO Phoenix Corporation, and
CliftonLarsonAllen. These companies have joined Kirtland Federal Credit Union,
FRENCH Funerals Cremations, and Presbyterian Health Plan in answering the
challenge.
The willingness of our local businesses to invest in UWCNM's work substantiates their
commitment to strengthening our community. THANK YOU to all of the Cornerstone
Partners for their past and continued support!
If you'd like to learn more about Cornerstones, recommit, step up to the challenge, or join
our Cornerstone Partners, please contact Jennifer Mastripolito.

Volunteer for Tax Help
New Mexico
Tax season is just around the
corner and training for Tax Help
New Mexico volunteers will
begin soon. This is a wonderful
opportunity to give back to the
community in a truly meaningful
way last year the program
returned over $20 million to
New Mexico residents. If you're

Mexico training registration

Featured Cornerstone Partner
Bank of Albuquerque is not only a Cornerstone Partner and one of our top campaigns
(with more than $200,000 raised and 63% participation in 2013); this year they issued a
Cornerstone Challenge to other companies in central New Mexico. When the Bank of
Albuquerque team decided to increase their Cornerstone gift by $7,500 for 2014, they
asked other companies to increase their giving either with the same dollar amount or
with an 18% increase. "The team at Bank of Albuquerque would like to challenge other
companies to become Cornerstone Partners or to increase their Cornerstone gifts that
support the work of UWCNM," said Jennifer Thomas, Bank of Albuquerque chairman and
CEO. So far, six Cornerstone Partners have stepped up to the challenge! Bank of Albuquerque's employees spend a great deal of time volunteering with UWCNM
and numerous other agencies. They are an excellent example of philanthropy and they
strive to create an improved community for everyone in central New Mexico. Please join
us as we celebrate the wonderful support that we receive from Bank of Albuquerque!

Finance Update
On November 11th, Women in Philanthropy (WIP) members gathered at the beautiful
Casa Esencia to kick off the holidays. Members learned about the progress of WIP's 2014
2015 grantees, donated and wrapped gifts for families at Ronald McDonald House
Charities of New Mexico, enjoyed a tamalemaking tutorial with Hotel Albuquerque's chef,
and learned the secrets of holiday decoration from Distracted by Decor. Thank you to all
who attended, and to CoBranding Partners Intel, Sandia Labs, PNM and US Bank for
making this event possible! Tocqueville Society Tocqueville Tuesday

prevention with minimal costs. Donations ready to go to Enlace Comunitario and
Haven House to help those in need.
On December 6th, members of our Tocqueville Society, Women in Philanthropy, Young
Leaders Society and Hispano Philanthropic Society and their families came to our offices
and filled bags to benefit women who are receiving assistance from Enlace Comunitario
and Haven House to build a violencefree life. The bags were filled with toiletries, special
gifts, books and much more and each included a handmade holiday card. Because of all
the amazing volunteers who participated, we were able to provide 305 bags to those in
need! Thank you to all who helped fill bags and make holiday cards, and to those who
donated items to fill the bags. And a very special thanks to Wells Fargo for their continued
support of these fun family events!
