The BookBag January - April 2015 A letter from the Director... 488 Freedom Plains Rd. Suite #109 Poughkeepsie, NY 12603 (845) 452-3141 www.laglib.org Visit our Events Calendar at www.laglib.org for more information or to register for a program. Program registration opens January 1, except as noted. Apply for a library card in person or online at www.laglib.org We are OPEN on the following Arlington School District holidays to better serve you: January 19 February 16 April 3-6 Holiday Closings New Year’s Day January 1 Recently I was selected by the New York Library Association to attend their 2014 Annual Conference in Saratoga Springs thanks to a generous conference sponsorship. I attended sessions relating to fundraising, technology and library administration; and reconnected with many fellow New York librarians. I was fortunate to participate in discussions hosted by fellow MidHudson librarians Frank Rees (Saugerties) and Rebekkah Smith Aldrich (MHLS). Meeting Sarah Houghton (a.k.a. The Librarian in Black), who is a hero of mine, was a thrill. Her advocacy for internet privacy rights is greatly admirable. Check out her web site at www. librarianinblack.net. You will have noticed a cost saving measure. While we continue to mail print copies of this newsletter to reach all LaGrange citizens, regardless of their internet access, we are now migrating from four newsletters per year to three. If you wish to opt out in lieu of reading this document online, please feel free to e-mail the library at lagrangelibrary@ laglib.org. Postage savings are always appreciated! Experiencing cabin fever? Know that the library is open an extra 3 days this year to offer engaging activities on non-school days. Finally, as the winter weather turns our LaGrange roads slippery and impassible, we attempt to keep the library open to serve you as best as we can. However, safety is a paramount concern for patrons and staff alike. Should we be on a snow closure day, or late opening/early closing, please call us to confirm hours of operation. We make every attempt to get the message out by changing our telephone message, posting to Facebook and www.cancellations.com, and notifying local radio stations. We waive fines for snow days. Please drive cautiously on our winter roads; keeping it safe for our school buses and children waiting at their bus stops. Thank you Michael Kelly @ LaGrange Highway Department and his dedicated crew of snowplow operators and salt truck drivers for attending to our slippery roadways.
