Dear 4-H Families,
Hello from Nichol Kleespies, the 4-H and Youth Outreach Educator
for Buena Vista County! I enjoyed the Awards Ceremony and am anxious to meet many more 4-H families in the upcoming months. Buena
Vista County 4-H is a vibrant and accomplished organization and I look
forward to working together to achieve your club goals.
I grew up on a family dairy farm in Central Minnesota and loved caring
for the buckets calves. Now I help my two children learn to care for
their animals on an acreage south of Newell, IA. My husband and I
have been part of the Buena Vista County community for nearly 20
years. I have served in several
professional roles in our community including Director of Student
Activities and Director of Community Service at Buena Vista University. I have also run a child-care
facility in Storm Lake serving local
families. Please let me know how
I can best serve our county
through 4-H!

YOUTH BEEF TEAM ORIENTATION
Youth Beef Team Orientation– RSVP Dec 15
4-H and The Iowa Cattlemen are partnering to offer a required orientation session for Youth interested in the
Beef Project to participate in “YOUTH BEEF TEAM.”
When: January 3, 2015- 6-8 PM
Where: Pocahontas Expo Center, 310 NE First Street, Pocahontas
What: : Youth Beef Team Orientation Session - Supper and Meeting- RSVP to Pocahontas County Extension
staff by Monday, December 15th to save your spot! 712-335-3103 or [email protected]
WHO: Open to all youth, ages 12 to 18, who are interested in promoting the beef industry. The Youth Beef Team began in 1994 as a way to
include youth in the Iowa Cattlemen’s organization.
WHY: Vital issues face the beef industry today. Every student encounters information in school and from the media on food safety, animal
rights, the environment and nutrition. Our goal is to equip young cattlemen and women with information they need to speak out positively for
the beef industry, pointing out the advantages beef offers to our health, our environment and our economy.
WHAT: Beef Industry staff will travel to our ISU Extension Region 6 (Buena Vista, Calhoun, Cherokee, Ida, Pocahontas, Sac) to provide
spokesman and activity training. We must have 10 young people at a session as well as an adult with the youth. Participating youth are to
recruit an adult who will serve as a contact person or mentor. This person can be a member of the County Cattlemen’s Association, a parent
or extension staff.
