2014 Sanborn County Achievement Days Manual July 30 and August 1-2, 2014

2014 Sanborn County
Achievement Days Manual
July 30 and August 1-2, 2014
Dear 4-H Leaders, Members, and Parents:
With August just around the corner, it is time to get preparations underway for the 2014
Achievement Days! This packet contains a lot of information and detailed instructions to
help answer most of your questions. Please take the time to read through everything and
to check this booklet for assignments for Achievement Days. (If you are unable to work, it
is your responsibility to find a replacement or trade with someone and notify the office of
this change.)
In addition to this booklet, you will find the following items in this packet:
 2014 4-H State Fair Exhibitor Guide (green) The 2014 State Fair schedule is located
on pages 1-2 in this Exhibitor Guide.
 2014 South Dakota State Fair 4-H Division Handbook—Animal Exhibit
 Membership ID cards
 Fair Entry help sheet: How to Register for Fair (4-H Family) (gold color)
 Registration form for Achievement Days (light yellow color)
 Cloverbud entry tags (if you have a Cloverbud in the family)
 Display exhibit tags
 Tickets for the Barbecue on Saturday, August 2nd during Achievement Days
 Order form for Peach Sales (pink color)
Registering your Projects on Fair Entry
Last year, the State 4-H Office began a new program called “Fair Entry”. We will be
utilizing that program again this year for registering your 4-H exhibits. (This program is a
separate program from 4hOnline, However, it is directly linked to 4hOnline which means all
of the information in 4hOnline can be “Imported” into Fair Entry including all your livestock
information and documents.)
To help you prepare to enter your projects into Fair Entry, I have included pre-registration
forms for your static and livestock exhibits. This form will help you organize your projects
and help to simplify things when you enter them into Fair Entry. I would highly recommend
using this registration form to record ribbon placings from Achievement Days and State
Fair. It is a great help when you fill out your record book at the end of the 4-H year.
Once you are ready to enter your projects into Fair Entry, follow the instructions on the Fair
Entry Help Sheet I have included in this packet. Your log-in information is the same as you
use to log into 4hOnline. Since there have been a few issues with Internet Explorer, we
recommend that you use Firefox and Chrome which work best with the new program.
Once all of your exhibit information is entered into Fair Entry, the Extension Office will be
able to print exhibit tags for your projects.
The deadline to enter your 4-H projects is Wednesday, July 23rd. Please do not hesitate to
call the Extension Office if you need help entering your projects or if you have questions
regarding Fair Entry.
New Display Exhibit—Entry Forms
This year some changes have been made to the Display Exhibit—Entry Form. A copy of the
new form is included in this packet and additional forms can be picked up at the Extension
Office. If you would like to use a fillable form on the computer, they can be found at: http://
igrow.org/4h/south-dakota-4h/ Go to Resource Library and do a search for entry forms. It will
bring up fillable forms on many of the entry forms needed for exhibits.
Interview Judging
This will begin at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday, July 30th. The 4-Her will take their project to the
judge. The 4-Her and the judge will discuss the 4-Her’s project: what was done, good points,
improvements, etc. A parent or a 4-H leader may accompany the 4-Her. They may sit in and
listen to the comments made, but should not participate in conversation to the judge. It is
HIGHLY ENCOURAGED the member participates in interview judging.
Cloverbuds (children 5-8 years of age)
Cloverbuds are encouraged to bring their exhibits in
on Wednesday, July 30th during static exhibit judging. All you will need is one of the Cloverbud tags
(shown here) with each of your projects. (Extra tags
are available at the Extension Office.) Cloverbuds
are encouraged to show their projects to one of our
two judges and to talk about their exhibit. After
their “interview judging”, Cloverbuds get to pick out
a colored ribbon of their choice.
Cloverbuds are allowed to exhibit small animals
including cat, dog, rabbit and poultry.

show will be held following the barbecue at Achievement Days. You should be dressed and
ready by 6:45 p.m. There will be a short practice at about 5:00 p.m. on Saturday afternoon,
so you will know what to do on stage.
