Citation for Dr. Narendra Nath Bora
Born in 1938 in Nagaon district of Assam, Dr. Narendra Nath Bora
graduated in Agriculture from Assam Agriculture College, Jorhat in 1959,
completed his M.Sc. in Animal Husbandry and Dairying from Agra in 1962 and
obtained Ph.D. degree from NDRI, Bangalore in the year 1975.
Dr. Bora started his career as Lecturer in Animal Husbandry in Assam
Veterinary College in 1962 rising to become the Professor and Head of LPM Dept in
1978 till 1996, with deputation as the Managing Director, West Assam Milk
Producers Co-operative Union from 1987 to 1991. After his retirement in 1996, he
served as visiting Professor in Central University, Nagaland, Medziphema from
1998 to 200. He was actively involved in teaching UG and PG students and was
instrumental in formulation of the PG course curriculum for specialized branches of
Animal Production, Dairy Science, Meat Science and Technology including
Livestock Economics.
He established the 30-sow Teaching Unit of the Pork Processing Plant in the year 1978 with funding from
NEC. Besides being involved in teaching, research and extension activities in the discipline of LPM at the Assam
Veterinary College, he was also associated with many social-service-cultural activities in the University and
Guwahati. He had been an Expert Member of ASRB, 1CAR Panel Committee on Dairy and Livestock Products
Technology, Staff Selection Committees of Bidhan Chandra Krishi Viswavidyalaya. West Bengal and Jawaharlal
Nehru Krishi Viswavidyalaya, Jabalpur and Assam Science Society.
A Life Member of ISAPM, he served as office bearer of the Editorial Board of IJAPM. He guided 14 MVSc
and 7 PhD students and published 52 research papers in National and International Journals. Dr. Bora was
awarded Jawaharlal Nehru Award by ICAR in 1975 and AAU Best Teacher Scientist Gold Medal. As Professor
and Head of LPM department he inculcated a sense of discipline, brotherhood and punctuality among employees of
the department in particular and the college in general. He was the Organizing Secretary of the National Symposium
of ISAPM held in Assam in 1986. He was also founder vice-president of ISAPM.
For his outstanding and lasting contribution to the discipline of LPM, not only in its crucial initial stages, but
also for taking it from institutions to the field in a sustained manner throughout his professional life, the grateful
Indian Society for Animal Production Management, today on the 28 th January, 2015, confers on Prof Dr N.N.
Bora its LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD for the year 2013-2014, at the National Seminar and Annual
General Body Meeting of the Society at the College of Veterinary & Animal Sciences, Central Agricultural
University, Aizawl, Mizoram.

Citation for Dr. S. Shamugasundaram
Born in 1940 in Sholavandan in Tamil Nadu, Dr. Sankarasubramanian
Shanmugadundaram did BVSc, MVSc and then PhD (LPM) from Madras Veterinary
College, Chennai. He underwent training in laboratory techniques, research and
management programmes in the field of poultry production and contributed greatly in
making Namakkal a leading poultry production centre in the country.
Dr. Shanmugasundaram started his career as a field veterinarian in 1963, joined
Madras Veterinary College as Reader after MVSc, rising to become the Professor and
Head of LPM, then Dean of Namakkal Veterinary College & Research Insititute, then
as Director of Research (Animal Sciences) and then as Dean of Madras Veterinary
College.
Ultimately Dr. Shanmugasundaram becoming the Vice Chancellor of the Tamial
Nadu University of Veterinary & Animal Sciences in 1995, the first LPM specialist to
earn such a honour in the country. After his retirement in 1998, he extended service to the
discipline at many places in various capacities, some of which are mentioned below.
He had been Chairman of - Board of studies, TANUVAS; Board of examination, TANUVAS; Deans’ Ccommittee;
Editorial Board, Cherion; Research Council and Extension councils, TANUVAS; Livestock Production Committee, Tamil
Nadu; Secretary, Indian Association of Deans of Vety Colleges; Member, Tamil Nadu Veterinary Council; Member,
Indian Veterinary Council; Secretary / Member of Acdemic Boards of different Veterinary Universities.
A Life Member of ISAPM, Dr. Shanmugasundaram guided 40 MVSc and & PhD students and published 3 books,
40 research papers in National and International Journals of repute and 120 popular technical articles in English and
Tamil in this discipline.

NATIONAL FELLOW OF ANIMAL PRODUCTION AND MANAGEMENT (FNAPM), 2014
The Indian Society of Animal Production and Management, is happy to announce the “National Fellow Animal Production and
Management” (FNAPM) to the following scientists/Professors for the year 2014. They will be honored with the awards at the inaugural
function of National Seminar, ISAPM 2014, AIZAWL, Mizoram on 29-01-2015 at 10.00 AM.
The executive committee would like to congratulate the following scientists/professors for their untiring efforts and contribution
in the research, education and extension activities based on the discipline of Livestock Production and Management. The society
applauds their valued services to the farming community through the technologies in augmentation of productivity of livestock,
enhancement of livelihoods and nutritional security among rural folks.
1. Dr. S K Das: He is presently working as Principal Scientist, LPM at ICAR Research Complex, Goa. He is a post graduate from West
Bengal and Doctorate from AAU, Assam. He is also involved in teaching of officials working in the department through various
training programmes and guided 5 Post graduate students. He has published 5 text books and was awarded for the best papers
in national seminars. He has about 75 research articles 21 popular articles,9 research bulletin, 10 abstracts presented in various
journals and seminar souvenirs. He has been involved in various projects related to livelihood creation through pigs, rabbits in
marginalized areas and sections. He is involved in North east police academy activities for 8 years and various committees
involved in natural calamities. He has plans to take up larger activities of the society in ICAR Institutes, Goa.
2. Dr. Damarla Bala Venkata Ramana : He is working as Principal Scientist, CRIDA, ICAR, Hyderabad. He has degrees of
qualifications of International Agriculture from Cornell University USA and DEM from IIEM, Bangalore apart from Doctorate in
Veterinary Science. He has served for 23 years in the research sector, LPM division and also supporting the teaching and
research activities of the University as an accreditated faculty. Guided 6 post graduate students . He has 41 research and 25
research bulletins, 10 contributed papers in text books and organized more than 25 training programmes to his credit. He is
hardworking scientists which fetched him more than 10 external aided projects and 10 institutional projects. His research work is
mainly focused on Eco friendly livestock production through NICRA, ICAR division. His involvement is very much in society as a
life member and participates in all the conferences actively and now a knowledge partner in the upcoming International
conference at Hyderabad, 2016.
3. Prof.M Mahender: He is working in the as Professor, Dept of LPM College of Veterinary Science, Rajendrangar, Hyderabad. He has
completed 20 years of teaching in the discipline of LPM. His greatest contribution in motivating the students in taking up various
key positions in the Department of Animal Husbandry and in abroad is laudable. He has 40 research articles, 20 popular articles to
his credit. He is responsible for the establishment of various small scale dairy farms and rabbitry in Telangana state. He has guided
7 post graduate students. He is supportive and sincere contributor to the development of the society through various activities
and now being the Secretary General. He has a passion for working the societal development by being an ideal human being.
