WELCOME
TO FORM 2015
PUNCTURE will premiere in Sydney Festival
in the new year at Riverside Theatres,
Parramatta. Directed by Patrick Nolan and
choreographed by Kathryn Puie, PUNCTURE
combines the forces of Legs On The Wall,
FORM Dance Projects and VOX – Sydney
Philharmonia Choirs in a large scale
production featuring an ensemble of 42 young
performers exploring the rituals of courtship
and young love.
The Dance Bites 2015 program features
a duet, a solo and a trio representing
some of the finest and most innovative
choreographers and performers in
independent dance in Sydney. FORM is proud
to offer Martin del Amo, Phil Blackman,
Raghav Handa, Ahilan Ratnamohan,
Connor van Vuuren and Immanuel Dado an
opportunity to present their work.
The education program continues to reach
out and inspire young people in Western
Sydney to participate in and enjoy dance.

LEGS ON THE WALL, FORM DANCE PROJECTS,
VOX - SYDNEY PHILHARMONIA CHOIRS AND SYDNEY FESTIVAL PRESENT
For centuries we have used dance to
connect, seduce and play – from the
masked ball to the mosh pit.
PUNCTURE invites the audience to
embrace the risk of intimacy in a crowded
room, from the restraint and formality of
classical dance through to the sensuality
of the tango and the rebellion of youth.
Stefan Gregory’s score is inspired by
some of the great composers from
Monteverdi to Madonna, and sung live
by a 30-voice choir accompanied by
percussionist Bree Van Reyk. They take
to the dance floor with 12 young dancers,
choreographed by Kathryn Puie and led
by two of Australia’s finest dance artists,
Kristina Chan and Joshua Thomson.

SONGS
NOT

DANCE
TO
DANCE BITES
Are there songs you should never dance to . . .
privately or in public? Sydney choreographer
and dancer Martin del Amo joins forces with
Lismore-based dance artist Phil Blackman to
respond to this unusual proposition ... and try.
Their chosen songs are either too famous,
utterly obscure or extremely cheesy. And
yet, by choosing to dance to the seemingly
undanceable, the artists playfully entice
the audience to witness a series of attempts
– against all odds – with as much dignity,
resilience and humour as possible.

TUKRE’, “pieces” in Hindi, explores how
lineage and rites of passage transcend
borders. Inspired by the contents of his
luggage on arrival in Australia, Raghav
creates a memory map of his heritage
through music and dance. His movement,
which combines delicate linear masculinity
with speed and precision, is inspired in
part by his grandfather, who as a jewel
maker, spent his life “faceting” gems and
diamonds - cutting, shaving and shining
precious stones. By mapping memories,
Raghav uncovers how history is passed
down through bloodlines, frying pans and
faceting techniques!

In DRILL, three athletes meet in a late
night, never-ending training session. A form
of non-competitive competition unfolds
before the audience. Sweaty machismo gets
a poetic makeover as sprinting, jumping,
turning, pivoting, falling and accelerating
merge in an indefinable training sequence
which revels in an exhausted euphoria.
DRILL is an exploration of the
choreographic potential of athletic
movement and training; an attempt to
transcend all human athletic capabilities,
in a non-spectacular, practical fashion.
