Introduction
Welcome to the 84th Legislature.
At the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT), our mission is to work with
others to provide safe and reliable transportation solutions for Texas. Our goals are
maintaining a safe system, addressing congestion, connecting Texas communities and
being a best-in-class agency.
The employees and leaders of TxDOT take our roles as public servants seriously. We
know that the public, the Texas Legislature and Congress have entrusted us with the
state’s resources and that we must use those resources in a responsible and efficient
manner. We are focused on operating a lean organization that effectively delivers
transportation solutions for the people of Texas.
The quality of Texas’ vast transportation system is integrally tied to our state’s current
and future economic development. And economic development has a direct impact on
the quality of life that we enjoy in our great state.
As TxDOT nears its 100th anniversary, it is important to me that we build on our
past successes by planning for the transportation system that our children and
grandchildren will inherit from us. We cannot simply hope that the transportation
solutions that have worked in the past will be the solutions that will work best for
future economic prosperity and quality of life. More than ever before, TxDOT and
its transportation partners must take into account our state’s entire transportation
system, including its rail lines, inland and water ports, airports, waterways and
pipelines.
The path ahead will take a lot of work, but to truly fulfill our mission, it is work that
must be done. I look forward to working with you in the coming years. Please call on
me or my staff so that we may better serve you and the people of Texas.
Sincerely,
LtGen J.F. Weber, USMC (Ret)
