school board meeting held on September

Administrative reports were given as
follows:
Technology: Written (Chuck Ennen).
The problem with YouTube and internet filtering has been resolved. The “new” setup
allows easier access to the site and more
scheduling flexibility for teachers. NWEA
testing for grades 3-9 was completed September 23. This was our first test session
since we have converted to the web based
version of MAP. Several SMART Board issues have occurred – all at WCAS. Pieces
of four different systems have had issues
that range from a bad projector to a bad
Board, to be replaced under warranty.
Apple’s release of IOS 8.0 on September
17 and then subsequent releases of 8.0.1
and finally 8.0.2 on September 26 has kept
Bryan and I busy with several iPad issues.
The biggest item was problems connecting to the wireless network which seems
to have been corrected with version 8.0.2.
Updates for MSOffice compatible apps
have been completed for grades 7, 8 and
part of grades 10, 11. Grade 9 and the rest
of 10 and 11 will be updated soon.
Community Education: Oral (Harold
Nelson). Held class last week for Pre-K
students and parents. Classes will be held
once a month until May. They are the 2nd
Tuesday of each month. Received a grant
from West Central Initiative through CYC
and they are focused on community learning. Also working with Grow Grant County.
Cost if nominated $150.
Activities Director:
Written (Pat
Anderson) –Tennis finished at 3-11 (5th
place in Prairie Conference). Volleyball finished 10-14 (6th seed) and will Ortonville
on Thursday. Cross country getting ready
for section meet on Thursday. Football
team 1-7 and will go to Swanville to take
on Upsala-Swanville. Thank you to all fall
coaches for their hard work.
Elementary School Principal: Oral
(Sarah Suchy) – Fire & Ice Program was
put on. Thank you to PACT and PTO who
funded this. Thanked all of the fire departments for their work during Fire Prevention
Week. December 9th will be the Christmas
program at South Elementary.
Secondary School Principal: Oral
(Nels Onstad) – 2 weeks left in the 1st
quarter. Parents, check with your students
to make sure that their work is current.
Thanked those that helped with Homecoming Week. Young Eagles Program starts on
October 21. It focuses on aviation. Congratulations to the 5th and 6th grades on
being celebration eligible.
Business Manager: (Diane Powers):
Updated on Budget to Actual Expenses and
Revenues. Audit starts October 21. Malt
machine will be sold on K-Bid. Special Ed
funding training will be held next week.
Superintendent: (Pat Westby) Written & Oral – Referendum-Bond update for
Nov. 4th election. October 28 is last community meeting at 7pm in Barrett. Check
out the school web page for more information. There is a property tax calculator on
the web site to see what your taxes will be.

School District’s existing referendum authority that is scheduled to expire after taxes
payable in 2015 and to replace that authorization with a new authorization of $1,851
per pupil. The proposed referendum revenue authorization would be applicable for
five (5) years unless otherwise revoked or
reduced as provided by law.
