Who is First Night
Monterey?
Founded in 1976 in Boston (1992 in Monterey), First Night
is a community celebration of the coming of the New
Year expressed through the arts. First Night’s mission is to
broaden and deepen the public’s appreciation of the arts
through an innovative, diverse and high quality program,
which offers the community a shared cultural experience
that is accessible and affordable to all.
The Celebration
Nine hours of visual and performing arts
presentations, over 70 Performances on one night,
with over 20 sites! First Night makes it easy to
move around to different venues to enjoy many
cultural performances and art experiences.
First Night ArtWorks!
Outreach Programs
Through our arts education outreach program,
professional artists work with hundreds of youth in
partnership with many other community organizations
and schools all yearlong. From South to North County,
Art Camps in our Archer Park Center and our new Cultural
Arts Center in Greenfield have art workshops for youth,
adults and community organizations.
Your First Night- Plan it
Make the most of your First Night Monterey experience
- plan your evening using this program guide. Seating
in each venue is first come first seated. An alphabetical
listing of performers starts on page 4 and a grid of
performers, times and locations is on pages 4. You can
use these guides:
By artist: If you have a favorite band or artist, look
them up in the alphabetical listing, see when their
performances are, and attend those performances.
By time: To see what’s going on within your time
schedule, check the grid by time. There
are many performances going on
simultaneously – pick the ones that interest
you most.
By location: Check the grid by venue, and
then see which artists will be appearing at
that site.
Give yourself time to get from one site to
another, and enjoy the sights and sounds
along the way. Remember some popular
artists or sites may have lines to get in.

GRAND FINALE
Countdown to Midnight –
Two Indoor Venues!
This year’s finale will be once again held in two indoor
venues, so whatever the weather you can welcome in
the New Year in style! Both venues open at 11pm and the
festivities begin at 11:15pm, culminating in a countdown
to midnight. In the Serra Ballroom, the Nu Horizon Band
dynamic and energetic R&B Latin Rhythms band - you can
dance into 2015! In the Golden State Theater, an all-star
First Night production with Jonah and the Whalewatchers
and the Sambahemians with Samba Légal, infectious music
with Caribbean and African beats will bring in the New
Year! Special surprise guests may be dropping in to join
the bands at either venue – you never know what might
happen at a First Night finale! Whether you want to be on
your feet dancing or just sitting back and enjoying the
tunes, you can guarantee a fun and exciting time into the
New Year. Space is limited, so a Finale ticket (no extra cost
to button-holders) is required to get into either venue. PICK
UP YOUR FINALE TICKET at the Portola Plaza ticket booth
(look for the signs!) at the Conference Center after 8pm –
first come, first served. Have fun, and have a Happy New
Year- First Night style!
Twilight
Procession
Join us as we process down Alvarado Street
from Portola Plaza towards Pearl Street
with artist, dancers, puppets, marching
moms, clowns and community groups.
The Procession starts at 5:30pm. First
Night Monterey is first and foremost about
community. Parade route begins at Portola
Plaza and proceeds down Alvarado Street
(going the wrong way) towards Pearl
Street; line up on the sidewalks and get
ready to be amazed!

$164 million in community benefits
If you live in Monterey County, it’s likely that you or people you know benefited
from Community Hospital — even if none of you ever went to the hospital.
Every year, Community Hospital of the Monterey Peninsula puts millions
of dollars back into the communities it serves, strengthening the roots
of a broad array of health-related programs and services. In 2013, we
collaborated with 223 businesses, organizations, school districts, and others,
spent more than $164 million, and devoted nearly 21,000 volunteer hours under
what is called our Community Benefit Program.
Below is a summary of how the money was spent. Find our complete
