/ Introduction to Courses at the Catholic Adult Education Centre
Attendance Mode
There are several ways you can study with us by attending
classes.
My actual journey began
by searching for a Catholic
Institute that would assist
me in my discernment of my
vocation as a Permanent
Deacon, to help me grow in
knowledge and to also grasp a deeper
and more profound understanding of
everything within my Catholic Faith.
Live @ The Catholic Centre, Lidcombe
WHO can study at CAEC?
HOW to study at CAEC
Anyone can! Our courses are designed to be accessible to any adult,
even if you haven’t studied for a long time. Everyone who studies with
us will find something to enrich and enliven their faith as well as hints
for practising it and passing it on to others. The more academically
inclined will find plenty of material in classes to challenge them plus a
wide range of good books for supplementary reading in The Mustard
Seed Bookshop.
Flexibility
WHAT can I study at CAEC?
You can choose from a wide range of courses in such areas as Sacred
Scripture, Church history, Christian doctrine, ethics, spirituality, liturgy,
teaching skills and evangelisation. You can take any individual courses
you choose or study for one of our certificates.
If you are aspiring to work in youth ministry, or as an RE teacher,
catechist (school or adult) or in RCIA formation, make sure you read
our sections on certificates and accreditation on pages ?? There are a
number of options available to you.
Whether you are working towards a certificate, or studying for your
own interest, you can read the course descriptions available on pages
??
"All Scripture is
breathed out by God and
profitable for teaching"
2 Timothy 3:16.
You can study either by attendance at classes or by correspondence;
you are welcome to mix these study modes in completing certificate
courses. This flexibility is popular amongst school teachers, students
and professionals alike. Attendance mode (live, off-site or intensive)
is highly recommended as it provides valuable opportunities for direct
interaction with lecturers and fellow students.
Length of study
Students can study with CAEC for as long as they like! Those who
wish to complete one of the certificates can usually do so within 12 - 24
months by enrolling in two courses per term and taking some of the
intensives. On average, our students enrol in two courses per term,
but there is no required minimum.
Live classes at Lidcombe generally run for six to eight weeks and
involve approximately 12 hours of classroom time. These classes are
held in the evenings during school terms. A very important part of
the learning process is class participation and interaction with other
students. See the back page for details of live classes in 2015.
The Catholic Centre is located at 3 Keating Street, Lidcombe,
NSW, 2141.
Finding the CAEC has been an absolute
blessing for me; with its multitude
of courses to choose from and their
brilliant lecturers, CAEC has enabled me
to grow in my faith tremendously.
Live courses usually cost $105 per course.
Live @ OLOL Harris Park
Recently, the CAEC has introduced a Certificate in Maronite Studies.
Classes at Harris Park generally run for six weeks and will also involve
12 hours of classroom time. These classes are held on Monday
evenings during school terms. See the back page for details of live
classes in 2015.
The CAEC graciously offers evening
courses which I found most convenient,
while also offering Intensive and
Correspondence courses to suit the
needs of all who wish to study.
Our Lady of Lebanon Maronite Catholic Parish is located at 40
Alice St, Harris Park, NSW 2150
Live courses at Harris Park will cost $95 per course.
I highly encourage and recommend
the CAEC to all who are searching for a
better understanding of their Catholic
Faith.
Off-site
In addition to attending classes at Lidcombe, opportunities to study at
various locations around Sydney will arise from time to time. Off-site
classes usually run for six weeks with two hours of class per evening.
The cost is $95 per course.
Wade Ayoub
If you have a parish or community group that would like to learn more
about some aspect of the Catholic Faith, contact us to talk about
courses custom-made for your parish or group! There are many ways
CAEC can help you!
Intensive
Each term we offer intensive, two-day courses. These are convenient
for school teachers and others wishing to complete courses quickly.
Watch our website for details, or sign up for our email alerts service
for notification of upcoming intensive courses: see www.caec.com.au. The cost is $110 per student, including lunch, morning and afternoon
tea and course materials.
Correspondence Mode
If you are unable to attend classes or you wish to study courses in
your own time, you can study by correspondence mode. Almost all of
our courses are available for study by this method. You will receive a
kit with 8 audio CDs containing class lectures, class notes, handouts
and any other materials required to complete the course successfully.
Students must listen to all audio recordings to pass each Course.
Please note that if a course is offered for the first time in 2015, it will
not usually be available by correspondence until the following term.
See pages 11-17 for courses available via correspondence mode.

Sharing Your Faith
The curriculum offered at the CAEC is solidly grounded in Scripture,
the Catechism of the Catholic Church, the Compendium of the Social
Doctrine of the Church, the documents of the Second Vatican Council,
and other important documents. As the Religious Education Curriculum
of the Archdiocese of Sydney and the To Know, Worship and Love texts
used in Catholic schools are based on these documents, teachers who
study at the CAEC will attain a familiarity with the foundations of the
texts.
Reimbursement for teachers of religion permanently employed by the
CEO is available for some of the courses provided by the Centre. Please
contact the CEO for further information.

For more information contact:
Semester One: TH141: Faith and Culture – Fundamental
Theology
Dr. Peter John McGregor
As foundational, this unit will focus on the question of the sources of the
Christian tradition, particularly upon the nature and locus of revelation,
the nature of faith, and the interrelationship between revelation and faith. It will cover such issues as the inseparability of the “God” question and
human questions as these are grounded in the universal search for
meaning, as in the universality of faith within that search, the relationship
between faith and reason, and the nature of revelation as this has
been particularly codified in Sacred Scripture. Special attention will be
devoted to a consideration of how the Bible is to be understood and read
as the Word of God.
Semester Two: TH152: Introduction to Christian Spirituality
This unit introduces students to the study of Christian, and in particular, to
Catholic Spirituality. It explores the theological foundations and biblical
images of Christian spirituality, and introduces the lives, writings and
spiritual practices of a number of Saints and people of outstanding faith
such as St. Augustine, St. Gregory of Nyssa, St. Ignatius of Loyola, St.
John of the Cross, St. Therese of Lisieux and Gerard Manley Hopkins. The unit also focuses upon the pastoral dimensions of spirituality in
relation to areas such as suffering and death, and pastoral care.
Lectures will be held from on Wednesday evenings at The Catholic
Centre, 3 Keating Street, Lidcombe, from 6.30-9.30pm.

I am currently teaching at Catholic schools and decided to study at CAEC to assist me in gaining
the knowledge that I need to help our future children to develop and grow in their faith.
I thoroughly enjoyed this experience due in large part to my interest in religious studies, and
combined with vibrant lecturers who were willing to pass on their knowledge with Joy and
conviction. I also enjoyed meeting other Catholics who were keen on learning their Faith.
I recommend these courses for all those that are willing to grow, develop and deepen their Faith.
