TUESDAY EVENINGS
CONTROVERSIAL
FILM SEASON
A season of Controversial Films
All tickets: £5
Venue opens at 7.00pm - Films start at 7.30pm
Coffee and Licensed Bar open for refreshments
FREAKS
Tuesday 13th January
Directed by Todd Browning in 1932, the film
was banned in the UK and US for nearly
30 years. A circus trapeze artist, Cleopatra,
takes an interest in Hans, a dwarf who
works in the circus sideshow. Her interest,
however, is in the money Hans will be
inheriting. The film forces the spectator to
question who is the real ‘freak’: those who
are different or those who judge them?
LAST TANGO IN PARIS
Tuesday 17th February
One of the most erotic films in the
history of cinema. It stars Marlon Brando
and Maria Schneider. A middle-aged
American hotel owner, mourning his
wife's suicide, meets a young, engaged
Parisian woman at an apartment that
both are interested in renting and they
begin an anonymous sexual relationship.
BONNIE & CLYDE
Tuesday 3rd March
The 1967 landmark film broke many
cinematic taboos of the time. It stars
Warren Beatty and Faye Dunaway. In the
middle of the Great Depression, Clyde
Barrow and Bonnie Parker meet and
become partners in crime embarking on
a spree of bank robberies and murders
across mid-west America.
PEEPING TOM
Tuesday 21st April
Mark (Carl Boehm) works as a
cinematographer in a film studio. In his
free time he supplies a local shop with
nude photos and also dabbles in filmmaking. He becomes obsessed with how
people look when they are dying and
this leads him to murder. This 1960s film
asks the terrifying question: are we all, to
some extent, peeping toms?
