Governor’s Message
Brothers we have reached 2015 with great success.
There are only three and one-half months before
our next Board of Officer Elections. Now is the time
to start thinking about running for officer or volunteering as a Chairman. The Moose Legion Chair’s
will be announced at the first LOOM meeting in May
2015, so now is the time to step forward if you are
willing to make a difference in the Moose and our
lodge. See the office for details or contact a Board of
Officer.
Over 60 volunteers attended last month’s annual
Lodge Volunteer Christmas Dinner. If you volunteered and did not come out, you missed a great
time with great company.
For the first time in years the WOTM and Moose
Legion teamed up and sponsored a successful
Christmas dance with the Janitors rocking the Lodge
18170798.
There have been many changes in the Lodge during
the past eight months. Thanks to Kids Chairman Brian Carpenter for upgrading the “KIDS” room, making the Lodge a true Family Moose Center. Brother
Tim Davis stepped forward and custom built the
front OIC desk and Serving Station, J.D. Langley
fixed the water problem in the parking lot saving the
lodge hundreds of dollars in lost water cost. Trivia
night has taken off thanks to Dawn Ozmore. It is
held every second and fourth Thursday with the
number of team growing each month. Jack & Myrtle
Casey continue to keep the BINGO hall setup twice
a week. Marie Matlock continues to keep the Ballroom decorated year-round while Julie Andrews has
Hopewell Moose
stepped forward to keep the Social Quarters decorated for the latest festive seasons.
The Hopewell Moose Legion will host a Hospitality
Room during the Winter Celebration, Moose Legion 148. The dates are February 5-8 at the Holiday
Inn in Virginia Beach. Brad Ozmore has stepped forward to be the Chairman for this event. If you want
to volunteer contact Brad or the office for more
details.
In 2009 the VMA pledged to contribute $10 per
member toward the Mooseheart Renovation Project. The Hopewell Moose Lodge’s pledge was
$6,500. Today we remain $4,440 shy of our contribution. During the years we’ve lost focus on our
obligation to support Mooseheart. My goal before
leaving office on April 31 is to pay off our part of
the Renovation Project.
I am looking for LOOM or WOTM members willing
to step forward and Chair the following events:
Moose Alert: The first purpose of the Moose
Alert program is to actively engage members in
search efforts for lost or missing children and form
solid relationships with local police. The second primary purpose of the program is to utilize our Lodge
buildings and facilities during times of emergencies
or disasters and partner with the Salvation Army.
Safe Surfin’: In 2008, the Moose entered into a
partnership with the Safe Surfin’ Foundation, a Virginia-based organization which has been a leader in
attempting to keep the Internet a safe place for children to explore.

FROM THE WOTM CHAPLAIN: Gloria Anderson
I am happy to report that I have not received word of any illnesses or deaths during
this reporting period.
I did, however, send out about a dozen Christmas cards to our shut-ins and elderly
that cannot come to our meetings anymore. I trust that helped them to remember that
they are still in our hearts.
I would like to thank our Junior Regent, Dawn Ozmore, and all her helpers, for the nice
Christmas dinner that she chaired. She did a fantastic job. She is truly an asset to our
Chapter.
Please call me to report any illness or if you think one of our co-workers just needs a
Thinking of You card.
Gloria Anderson (458-6519)
Senior regent’S MeSSage
It's hard to believe it’s been eight months into
my reign as Senior Regent. The WOTM have
accomplished a lot this year and will continue
through 2015.
At this time, I would like to thank Mary Simmons, Olay Wyatt and Mattie Rogers for their
continued sponsorship of the Hopewell Nursing Home in celebrating monthly birthdays
with gifts, cake and ice cream. I've witnessed
the amazing expressions of gratitude on the
faces of these individuals and would like to
invite each of you to come and participate.
Also, I would like to thank Marie Matlock and
the Decorating Committee for the beautiful
Christmas decorations in the Ballroom. It just
takes my breath away every time I walk into
the Ballroom.
The WOTM and Moose Legion teamed together to sponsor an amazingly successful Christmas Holiday Dance with the famous Virginia
Beach "Janitors" rocking the Ballroom.
We also celebrated with LOOM our Christmas
Dinner that was sponsored by Dawn Ozmore,
Junior Regent, who had incredibly delicious
food and beautiful table decorations.
During the past couple of months, our youth
room was under construction with the leadership of Brian Carpenter and WOTM contributed a small amount. I would like to invite
everyone to observe the youth room and enjoy!
The Hopewell Women of the Moose received
from Barbara J. McPherson, Grand Chancellor, letters of congratulations to five members
to receive the Academy of Friendship for
2013-2014. The Academy of Friendship will
be conferred at the Annual State/Provincial
Academy of Friendship Session held in conjunction with the Mid-year Conference or
during the International Conference of the
Women of the Moose. The following WOTM,
Loretta Perry, Lynetta Parrish, Cindy King,
Dawn Ozmore and Julie Andrews will be receiving their Academy of Friendship. Thank
you for your continued support and dedication to the Hopewell Women of the Moose.
I’d like to thank each member of the
Hopewell Moose Lodge for your service to our
Lodge and know you will continue to follow
the precepts of Faith, Hope and Charity in the
willingness to assist others in need.
Thank you,
Lynetta Parrish

Kids Movie Night at the Moose
On behalf of the LOOM, we would like to thank you for supporting our Kid’s Room renovations.
The kids now have a fun and safe place. We've seen many parent's enjoying the games and
HUGE bean bags too. This is good, but there's only one problem... we want to see more kids
enjoying this space. Please consider bringing your kids, grandkids or, better yet, invite some
friends and their children to enjoy a dinner or event. We like to see the kids enjoying themselves at the Moose.
Want to help us, help the kids to have an even better time? If you happen to have some XBox,
Wii games or DVD movies you would like to consider donating, we would love to have them.
And be sure to keep an eye out for our Kids featured activities... such as
Movie Night Featuring, "Frozen"
Friday January 23 at 8PM, bring your child and a friend to join us in the Kid’s Room to watch
"Frozen". There will be snacks and good times for all. Watch "Frozen" with your child or enjoy
a little adult time in our Social Quarters with some friends and one of our favorite DJs.

Be sure to keep a look-out for the date and choice for

From The Kitchen
The Kitchen would like to thank all lodge members who donated to help us create a Christmas Basket
for those homeless and hungry citizens in the Chance VA program. Twice a month, on Wednesdays,
Hopewell Moose Lodge kitchen staff spends its time creating a dinner for those less fortunate. Member Cindy King is in charge of delivering these meals and is currently looking for more volunteers to
help her. I would also like to thank Cindy’s children, Elizabeth, Troy Jr. and Christian as well as Member Barbara Nester for joining Cindy in delivering these meals and feeding the hungry. We currently
feed 15 to 20 individuals twice a month through Chance VA. Many thanks to Karen Mertz for the numerous times she has delivered the food to Chance VA in the past year.
This Christmas, with the help of our generous members, we were able to also provide them Christmas baskets that contained warm scarves, socks, Chapstick, candies, gloves and many other items. I
can’t say how important this program is and how much we appreciate all of your kind donations.
Please see Cindy King or myself if you would like to volunteer to help with this program in any fashion.
Blessings,
Kathy Slade

It was a little chilly to play golf on Sunday, Nov. 23rd. But we

It started out a little cold but ended up to be a fun day.
We played a two-man Captain’s Choice. The winners for this
were Brad Ozmore and Darrell Johnson with a score of 70.
Congratulations to Brad and Darrell for bringing the trophy
back to our lodge. This will stay in our lodge until next year.

was only possible because of the generous nature and loving spirit of our members.
Special Thanks to Mary Simmons, Mattie Rogers and Ola Wyatt for their years of humble dedication to our special seniors. Not a month goes by that these wonderful women can’t be found at the

PLUS presents from their “Hopewell Moose Family”!
