St. Mary’s is always happy to welcome new members. If you are
interested in parish membership, it would be most helpful if you
would call to make an appointment to register (262-782-4575).
An appointment will guarantee the presence of a staff member to
answer your questions and walk through a welcome packet with
you.
Registration guarantees you all the privileges of parish
membership.
Baptism Preparation
Children ages 6 and under: Those seeking to have children
baptized should be registered, active members of St. Mary’s
Visitation Parish. Parents who request baptism for a child are
expected to complete a preparation class. It is offered bi-monthly.
The next classes are:
Saturday, January 3rd from 10-11am in church
Saturday, March 7th from 10-11am in church
It is generally easier if the preparation is done before the birth of
the child. If you have attended a session within the last five years,
it is not necessary to retake the class.
Please contact Jenny Dascoli in the Liturgy & Music office at
262-782-4485 for more information or to register for the baptism
class.
Children ages 6-12: Please call the Liturgy & Music Office.
Adults ages 12 and up: Adults who wish to join the Catholic
Church and were not baptized can participate in the Rite of
Christian Initiation for Adults (RCIA). Please call Josh
Dieterich, Co-director of Christian Formation - Middle School,
Adult and Family Ministry, for more information.
Ice and Snow!
Our Building and Grounds staff work tirelessly to keep the walks
and parking lots clear of snow and ice. Yet a small change in the
temperature can cause ice in a moment. If you notice an unsafe
condition, please use the salt containers and scoops, located at the
main church entrances, to salt down an icy sidewalk. Thank you!
End of Year Contributions
St. Mary’s successfully runs the parish, school, and our many ministries because of the generous donations of its parishioners. We
appreciate your contributions throughout the calendar year.
Were you aware that historically 18% of all general stewardship donations are received in the month of December?
We count on and appreciate being included in your end of year giving again this year. Thank you.
According to IRS regulations, all contributions must be physically received by the close of business on December 31 st to be considered
donations for the 2014 calendar year. St. Mary’s Parish Office will be open until noon on Wednesday, December 31 st. Donations received after noon on December 31st and at the New Year’s Day Masses will be recorded as 2015 donations.

Merry Christmas!
After all the preparations of the season – the cooking and baking and wrapping and shopping and hosting and
decorating and cleaning, Christmas is upon us! What a joyful day! And not only a joyful day but an entire liturgical season – the Christmas Season – in which to enjoy the great gift of the birth of the Redeemer. I thought I
would include some words from St. Alphonsus Liguori on this great day and season of rejoicing, from his
Discourse for Christmas Night:
“Arise, all ye nobles and peasants; Mary invites all, rich and poor, just and sinners, to enter the cave of Bethlehem, to adore and to kiss the feet of her new-born Son. Go in, then, all ye devout souls; go and see the Creator of heaven and earth on a
little hay, under the form of a little Infant; but so beautiful that he sheds all around rays of light. Now that he is born and is lying on the
straw, the cave is no longer horrible, but it is become a paradise. Let us enter; let us not be afraid.
Let every soul, then, enter. Behold and see that tender Infant, who is weeping as he lies in the manger on that miserable straw. See how
beautiful he is; look at the light he sends forth, and the love which he breathes; those eyes send out arrows which wound the hearts that
desire him; the very stable, the very straw, cry out, says St. Bernard, and tell you to love him who loves you; to love God, who is infinite
love; and who came down from heaven, and made himself a little child, and became poor, to make you understand the love he bears you,
and to gain your love by his sufferings.
Now then, O all ye devout souls, does Jesus invite you to come and kiss his feet this night. The shepherds who came to visit him in the
stable of Bethlehem brought their gifts; you must also bring your gifts. What will you bring him? Listen to me; the most acceptable
present you can bring him is that of a contrite and loving heart.”
On behalf of myself and the entire parish staff, a joyful and blessed Christmas to you!
Christmas 2014
For it is through the Holy Spirit that this child has been conceived in her.
She will bear a son and you are to name him Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins. (Matthew 1:20-21)
Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
Many of us feel especially nostalgic during Advent and Christmas. With the spirit of giving and sharing, everywhere we look, it’s the
perfect time to reflect on days gone by. Memories of celebrations of the birth of our Blessed Savior through the years, bring us smiles and
sometimes, even tears. The decorations, lights, gifts, bells and Nativity scenes transport us to moments with our families. This is often the
time we think of them most.
Family, while always a priority, has been a special focal point for the Church this year. From our own Archdiocesan Synod here in
Milwaukee, to the Vatican’s Extraordinary Synod of Bishops on the Family, both recognize the significance of life at home. As St. John
Paul II frequently noted, the family is the domestic Church: "Christian marriage and family build up the Church: for in the family the
human person is not only brought into being and progressively introduced by means of education into the human community, but by
means of rebirth in baptism and education in the faith is also introduced to God's family, which is the Church.”
As we look at the Holy Family, we see the love of God for us. When we think of a family, this is one beautiful example. An infant—the
Light of the World and his Virgin Mother, both left in the care of Joseph; a man revered by me and many others, as the world’s greatest
stepfather. Jesus’ highly-anticipated and prophesized arrival, made Him the world’s most-loved and most-hated newborn at the same
time. These three people, by all accounts, were fugitives. Carrying precious cargo, these loving parents remained faithful to God. Even in
the midst of great danger and personal sacrifice, Mary and Joseph put Christ first.
What wonderful lessons from our Holy Mother and Earthly Patron! When we put our Savior first and place our families in His care, we
will be forever blessed.
Take time to treasure your family during this very special season. After all, the ability to give love and to receive love, is the greatest gift
we share, as followers of Christ. May the Lord’s peace and grace be with you this Christmas, and throughout 2015!
Merry Christmas,
Most Reverend Jerome E. Listecki, Archbishop of Milwaukee

December Specials
This week-end we celebrate the Feast of the Holy Family. In the
opening prayer of the Mass we ask, "graciously grant that we
may imitate them in practicing the virtues of family life and in
the bonds of charity." What a wonderful world this would be if
all people took this to heart. Visit the St. Mary's Perpetual
Adoration Chapel and pray for your family and all families of the
world, that they may emulate the Holy Family. Give thanks to
God for the gift of your family and for the gift of being members
of His family.
There are two noteworthy feasts during the coming week:
Thursday, January 1st is the Solemnity of Mary, the Holy Mother
of God (a Holy Day of Obligation) and also the World Day of
Peace.
Saturday, January 3rd is the Feast of the Most Holy Name of
Jesus.
Begin the year by commemorating these feasts in visits to the
Chapel. Make a resolution to visit the Chapel often, or better yet,
join the Adoration program and spend a designated
hour in the Chapel on a weekly, bi-weekly or monthly
basis! You can sign up in the book on the table in the
Atrium. A Blessed Happy New Year to all!

Catechesis of the Good Shepherd

Why are we offering this program?
Catechesis of the Good Shepherd is an approach to the religious
formation of the youngest children that is rooted in the Bible, the
liturgy of the Church, and the educational philosophy of Maria
Montessori.
Children gather in an "atrium" where they deepen their
relationship with Christ through the use of handmade materials
which allow them to ponder and internalize the great mysteries of
the faith. Thus, the atrium is a place of prayer and meditation
where children can live the realities of the Christian life. It is a
place where the child encounters God's call and responds.

Next Fall, Pope Francis will join tens of thousands of families and Church leaders from around the world for the
triennial World Meeting of Families which will be in Philadelphia. The conference will feature world-class
speakers, scholars, bishops, and cardinals, and closes with a Mass with Pope Francis! The entire family is
encouraged to attend and there is even unique conference programing for school age children, and even childcare for those under 6! This
is very preliminary, but we are just trying to gauge if there is any parish interest in attending the Gathering. Cost varies greatly depending
on our numbers and methods of transportation and lodging so we do not have that set yet. If you think you might be interested in helping
represent St. Mary's Visitation in this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for the whole family please contact Josh ASAP and let him know so
we can start working on this.
Diaper Drive ~ January 17th & 18th
A Diaper Drive to support Life’s Connection will be held the weekend of January 17th and 18th. Please bring in a pack of diapers to
help support families in need in our community.
Life’s Connection is a pro-life, pro-family non for profit organization that serves families all over Waukesha and Milwaukee county by
providing educational programs, baby items, resources, and 3D/4D ultrasounds. Diapers of all sizes are needed.
Thank you for your generosity and support!
Baby Bottle Campaign ~ January 17th & 18th
Friends of Life: After all Masses on January 17th and 18th, St. Mary’s will participate in a Baby Bottle Campaignfor the Women’s Support Center of Milwaukee.
The Women’s Support Center is a very busy Catholic, pro-life pregnancy Center on 21st and Wisconsin Ave. which offers
free pregnancy testing, ultrasounds, counseling, baby supplies and more to approximately 100 women a month. They are
currently in great need of monetary funding. On the above dates, please take a baby bottle and fill with any type of monetary
donation (loose change, dollar bills or checks).
The bottles should be returned to Mass two weeks later, January 31 or February 1.
Thank you for your life-saving generosity!
Guide to Parish Life & Directory
Advertising Opportunity
We are in the process of updating our annual Guide to Parish Life & Directory. This book is the Who, What, Where, When, Why and
How of our Parish. It is provided at no cost to St. Mary’s, including the mailing to each family. Once again, the book is being subsidized
by local businesses that advertise in it. If you own or manage a business and would like to find out about advertising in our book, please
call the Parish Office, 262-782-4575.
Recent survey results by Guide Book Publishing show that 92.1% of families would rather patronize a Guide Book & Directory
advertiser over a non-advertiser. It “will pay” to advertise in our new Guide to Parish Life & Directory!
Update Membership Information
It’s time for St. Mary’s to update our database. Here is your chance to update YOUR record for our annual Guide to Parish Life &
Directory. Are there any changes, additions, or deletions that may have occurred in your family over the past year? Have you changed
your phone number? Have you moved? Are you preparing to move soon? Are all of your children still at home and are they included in
your membership record? Do you want your phone number published? Please call the Parish Office, 262-782-4575, with any changes.
