PARISH NURSING NEWS
Flu Season: Recently, CDC (Centers for Disease Control)
announced that this flu season will likely be more severe than in
recent years. The most common virus this year is Influenza A.
This virus usually causes more severe flu illnesses and
complications than the viruses of recent years. Please note that
Influenza A has come to Williams County and is spreading
rapidly among persons of all ages. We were advised by medical
staff to once again take precautions to try to protect our parish
family from this very contagious virus. During Mass, there is no
hand contact and the cup will not be offered. We urge everyone
to also use good judgment by washing hands often and
thoroughly, covering coughs and sneezes, maintaining a healthy
lifestyle and staying home when not feeling well. People with
chronic health problems are at risk for complications from this
flu. These folks should check with their doctor at the first sign of
flu symptoms, such as fever, cough, sore throat, runny nose, body
aches, headache, chills and fatigue. There are antiviral drugs that
can lessen the severity of the illness, but these work best when
they are started within 48 hours of the appearance of symptoms.
Anyone who gets the flu should stay home until free of fever for
at least 24 hours.
HOLY FAMILY OF JESUS, MARY, AND JOSEPH
When they had fulfilled all the prescriptions of the
law of the Lord, they returned to Galilee, to their
own town of Nazareth. The child grew and became
strong, filled with wisdom; and the favor of God was
upon him. - Lk 2:39-40
A FAMILY PERSPECTIVE By Bud Ozar
The gospel today shows Mary and Joseph were not “perfect “
parents. If you have ever been “amazed” and “astonished” at
what came out of your child’s mouth, then you are in good
company. If there were times you “did not understand” your
children or felt “anxious” about their behavior so did Mary and
Joseph. Parenting is tough but it is also the stuff of holiness.
ROSARY FOR LIFE
Last week we heard St. Paul calling us to “pray without
ceasing,” asking us to develop a prayerful life. Our Bishop
Daniel Thomas in his visit here asked us to pray the
rosary. January 22 is the 42nd anniversary of the Roe v. Wade
decision that legalized abortion in the U.S. Each year on the
anniversary of that decision thousands of people gather in
Washington DC for the annual peaceful March for Life. We may
not be able to attend the March, but we can support the cause
with prayer. Please mark your calendar to come to weekend
mass 30 minutes early the month of January to pray the
rosary for the intention of respect for all life. If you, a group
you belong too, or your family would be willing to lead the
rosary before a January weekend Mass, please call or e-mail
