THE VOICE OF MILLPOND JANUARY 2015 Phone: 727-376-1991 / Email: [email protected] PRESIDENT’S COMMENTS……. By G. Bernard Zanetti The annual Community Board election will be held on the second Wednesday of January ( 14 ). Your proxies were received the week of December 15. If you haven’t already please fill it out and send it in to Qualified Property Management, or dropped it off at the Clubhouse mail slot or gave it to a member of the Board. Please do so. It is very important that we get not less the 243 proxies to have a valid election. In the event we do not receive the minimum number of valid proxies, the entire process has to be redone at additional cost and time for everyone involved. So each and every proxy is needed. If you wish to run for the Board just enter your name the night of the election. Also, on the issue of surplus funds please answer YES. We prefer not to pay the IRS any taxable income. Again we had vehicles running over the lawns on Old Millpond Drive. One, a heavy truck caused extensive lawn and sprinkler damage. Over 60 feet of fill and lawn had to be replaced. Crushed sprinkler pipes and heads were also replaced. The other, not as extensive, damage was at the entrance at SR 54. If the car had gone a little further it would have hit the entrance wall. Many members of the community helped to support the 2014 Board. I want to thank all those persons. 2015 will see new faces on the Board. They help represent the changing ownership complication of Millpond. Help to support them. See you at the January 14 meeting. CLUBHOUSE OFFICE HOURS: Mon., Tues., Thurs., Fri. 9am—1pm Wednesday: 3pm-7pm If you are a new resident to Millpond, you must show proof of ownership to receive a pool/clubhouse FOB. They are $25.00 (cash or check). If you are a tenant and need a FOB, you must have your landlord fill out a “Renters Use of Community Property form”. See Susan at Office. Thank you, Board of Directors, Section 1 MISSING YOU SECTION 4 BOOK CLUB Thanks to the eclectic interests of our members, and the careful planning and gentle guidance of our leader, Kathy Logue, our Book Club has experienced its seventh year of diverse and exciting reading. Here is a brief review of our reading in the past year: In January we read “The Shoemaker's Wife” by Adriana Trigiani. In February we read “Freud's Mistress” by Karen Mack, Jennifer Kaufman. In April our selection was “Night” by Elie Wiesel. In May our selection was “Miss Dreamsville and the Collier County Women's Library Society” by Amy Hill Hearth. In June we read “The Circle” by Dave Eggers. In July we read “The Goldfinch” by Donna Tart. In August our book was “Valley of Amazement” by Amy Tan. In September we read “Claire of the Sealight” by Edwidge Danticat. In October we read “Dear Life” by Alice Munro. In November we enjoyed “The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks” by Rebecca Skloot. At our annual planning session in December all members participated in recommending their favorite selections, representing many genres. Now we have collectively arranged our reading list for 2015. We feel that we have a well rounded "something for everybody" agenda to enjoy in the months ahead. In January we will be discussing “All the Lights We Cannot See,” by Anthony Doerr. All Millponders are welcome. We meet in the Clubhouse at 2:00 on January 20. All of the Book Club members wish all of you a Happy New Year and happy reading in 2015! By: Ruth Kiefer 2 Millpond Estates Social Committee— January 2015 Happy 2015 to everyone! May the New Year bring all of you good health and happiness! My hope is that the New Year will also bring all of us a lot of fun events and happenings in our community. Lunch Bunch went to Thai Bistro in December. It seems like our group is getting bigger and bigger which is great. As the saying goes “the more the merrier”. I really enjoyed the food and I know everyone looks forward to this monthly event. On November 29th—Several residents came and helped to decorate the Clubhouse for the holidays. I think that everyone did a great job. A special thanks goes out to Hugh and Judy Bartlett for their yearly dedication in setting up the nativity on the mantel. On December 13th - The annual Christmas party was hosted by Section 2. I believe it was a sold out crowd. The food was outstanding!! I will have to say that Millpond has a lot of great cooks! Gloria Liebchen, Shirley Bush and Ute Vitale did an outstanding job hosting this event. As always Burt was right in there helping out (what would we do without him?). Gloria was the MC for the Yankee Swap and she kept everyone laughing. Gloria maybe you should consider being a stand-up comic! A big thanks goes out to Brighthouse for providing the turkey and the favors. It was suggested that as a community we put out Luminaries on Christmas Eve. I for one am planning on doing this and look forward to driving around the neighborhood to see all of Millpond light up. The Social Committee is already “gearing up” for 2015. We are hoping that it is even more successful than 2014. January 22 at 7:00 p.m. We have requested that the Pasco County Sheriff’s Office conduct a Safety Meeting for our community. I think this will be very informative and will provide us will some tips to keep not only our households, but the community safe. Coffee and cookies will be provided. January 29th at 5:30—Millpond Dine Around— Check the White Book to see where we are meeting this month and to sign up. Try to come!! This is a nice evening out. February 21, 2015 will be our Millpond Spring Senior Prom----Be sure to mark your calendars for this event. Final information will be provided in my February news article. March 17th—St. Patrick’s Day dinner—Fran Sander has volunteered to host this event and a lot of plans for this are already in the works!! Make plans to spend this holiday with all of your friends and neighbors. Spring Tea Party and Fashion Show—We were considering having this event closer to Mother’s Day, however, since some of our snowbirds will already be heading North, we hope to have it in April. The members of the Social Committee continue to try to provide events that all of our residents would enjoy. We are always open to suggestions. If you cannot attend one of our meetings, drop your ideas off in the office. Gayle York Chairman Millpond Social Committee Upcoming events will be: Accept what is, let go of what was, and have faith in January 10th—10:00 a.m. Now we have to Un- what will be. decorate the Clubhouse. Please sign up to help in the White Book. Coffee and snack will be provided. January 15th, Thursday - Social Committee meeting for this month on Thursday only. 3 SECTION 6A – MILLPOND LAKES VILLAS HAPPY NEW YEAR!! This is a time for reflection as we begin a new year. Here is one of my favorites: The Fence There once was a boy who had a very bad temper. The boy’s father wanted to teach him a lesson, so he gave him a bag of nails and told him that every time he lost his temper he must hammer a nail into a wooden fence. On the first day of the lesson, the little boy had driven 37 nails into the fence. He was really mad!! Over the course of the next few weeks, the little boy began to control his temper, so the number of nails that were hammered into the fence decreased dramatically. It wasn’t long before the little boy discovered it was easier to hold his temper than to drive those nails into the fence. Then the day finally came when the little boy didn’t lose his temper even once, and he became so proud of himself, he couldn’t wait to tell his father. Pleased his father suggested that he now pull out one nail for each day that he could hold his temper. Several weeks went by and the day came when the young boy was able to tell his father that all the nails were gone. Very gently, the father took his son by his hand and led him to the fence. You have done very well my son; he smiled, but look at the holes in the fence. The fence will never be the same. The little boy listened carefully as his father continued to speak. When you say things in anger, they leave permanent scars, just like these. And no matter how many times you say you are sorry, the wounds are still there. ********* Our Section President, Frank Doyle, is home recuperating after major surgery. We wish him a speedy recovery. Keep him in your prayers. We have had some car break-ins in our section during the night. Please be sure to lock your car doors. The police have been alerted. Happy New Year, Fran Sander GREETINGS SECTION THREE Happy New Year Everyone, Just a reminder, if you park your car outside, please remember to lock the doors. Some items are missing from cars in the neighborhood. If you have security cameras, let us know if you have noticed any suspicious activity. We are happy to report that after a very serious fall Elizabeth Nevinger is now home from the hospital and rehab. She is still recuperating and busy with rehab and Derryl is busy cooking and taking care of the house both in and out. Elizabeth we wish you a speedy recovery. Also Carol Cogswell is home from the hospital after successful surgery. We also wish you a speedy recovery Carol and hope to see you out and about very soon. Best wishes for a happy, healthy and prosperous new year! Tony and Georgia To Section Two Neighbors: Because of our endeavor to provide equal opportunity for everyone to speak at our Dec. 9th Town Meeting, a quiet group of neighbors supported us by running flyers to our homes, providing the money for security, providing refreshments, and giving needed help. These neighbors who worked for the good of Section Two without recognition and thanks should be recognized and we should know that people such as this live near us. Sincere thanks to them, Judy & Hugh Bartlett 4 SECTION 5 Happy New Year to all Millpond Residents! We hope you had a happy and safe holiday season. We welcome all of our Snow Birds back, and hope they enjoy the Florida winter weather and the many activities at the Clubhouse. The Annual Meeting will be held on Tuesday, January 13, 2015, at 10 AM. You should have received a mailing from First Choice containing information and a Proxy. The 2015 Board will be elected, and we need a voting quorum of proxies and attendees to have a legal election. We will also have a photo display of what happens to a Community when Deed Restrictions are NOT enforced. This is a critical time for our Section, and we need everyone’s cooperation to maintain the character of our Community. Deed restriction enforcement continues as we remind residents that after garbage collection, all garbage cans are to be removed from driveways and placed out of street view. We urge all residents to drive very carefully. We have many children, walkers, bike riders, and ball players out enjoying life in Millpond, and we don’t want to see anyone hurt. We thank all Residents who continue to cooperate and keep Section 5 a beautiful and safe place to live. Section 5 Records Rule: Pertaining to Florida Statute 720.303(5), the Millpond V records are available for review at the Management office during the business hours of 9:00 AM and 4:30 PM, Monday through Friday, excluding holidays. An owner or owner’s representative may make an appointment to review the records during this time. Copies will be made for you at $ .25 per page. If you have the capabilities to make your own copies, you may do so. Do not send appointment requests to individual Board members. Such requests must be sent in writing to the management company only. Contact information for appointment requests to review and inspect Section 5 Documents and to report Deed Restriction Violations are as follows: Jerry Massie, Manager First Choice Association Mgmt. Inc. 4174 Woodlands Parkway Palm Harbor, Florida 34685 (727) 785-8887 First Choice is our agent and they have ALL of our official records. Individual Board members do not keep official records. There is a practical business reason for this: Section 5 Board members are all volunteers who serve without compensation. If a document is needed to conduct Section 5 business, it is available during routine business hours at First Choice. If a Board member is out of town, hospitalized, or unavailable, Section 5 business gets done. It is NOT dependent on the health or presence of a particular Board Member. SECTION 6 – THE LAKES Happy New Year!! Section 6 would like to wish everyone a Happy New Year and we are sure glad to see all of our friends who have returned either from vacations or are just joining us for the winter months. All of the Christmas decorations looked beautiful. So thank you all for all of the beautiful lights that made the season bright!! All who attended the Christmas Party at the Clubhouse had nothing but wonderful things to say about the good time they had. I hope to be able to join in the celebrations next year. Good job to all of you who put that gathering together. Well, just before Christmas section 6 Condos and section 6a Villas had an incident of someone breaking into their cars and small items stolen from them. Please remember to lock your cars at night. The only cars affected were those that were not locked. In all 17 cars were rummaged through. Happy New Year to all of us! Let's hope it's a good one. Did anyone make any New Year Resolutions this year that you have forgotten about already? HAHA. Now that all of hustle and bustle of the Holidays is over, I'll bet everyone is looking at their decorations and thinking it was so much fun putting them out, but not so much fun putting them away. Oh well, get going if you haven't already! We had a really great time at the Christmas Party, almost everyone was there. One hundred tickets were sold and most people brought really nice gifts for the Yankee Gift Swap. Bright House provided some food and as usual, Mill ponders brought fantastic side dishes and desserts! As of our last board meeting for 2014, the budget was approved and our maintenance fee will be $249.00 a month, an increase of $5.00. You should be getting a new coupon book if you haven't already. Our next meeting will be January 14, 2015. Please try to attend the meetings, especially if you want to voice your opinion about Millpond! Before I forget again, Angie and Bill Rossi want to thank all their friends in Millpond for their care and concern for Bill while he was in the hospital. He is doing great! Our deepest sympathies go out to Marlene Pursino of building 3, for the death of her father, Joe Pursino. He will be missed. Ciao for Now!
