The holy family empowers
to be a holy family
God created Adam and Eve to be a joyful and
peaceful family. Adam and Eve gave birth to
Cain and Abel. Lucifer and a host of angels refused to serve God. In their misery, they began
a Kingdom of hatred and vengeance to fight
against the Kingdom of love and mercy. Since
they could not destroy God, demons began to
tempt and deceive our first parents and their children. Adam and Eve brought
sin into their world and their sin was passed on as Cain murdered his brother
Abel. While we struggle with our own sins and temptations each day, God provides a Savior and a Guardian Angel so that we can choose life and love over
death and hatred.
The Word of God, the Sword of the Holy Spirit, instructs us that we are too
blessed to be stressed by sin. Jesus came from heaven to share his divine nature
with us. A blessing empowers us to be the presence, power, and peace of Jesus
for one another. Abraham was blessed with a child in his old age because he
and Sarah believed that there is only one God who created us and sustains us to
be life-givers. Saint Paul assures us that God chose us to be holy and dress our
hearts with “compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience, bearing
with one another and forgiving one another.” All this is possible because as
Jesus was presented to God in the temple, so our parents blessed us with the
gift of Baptism. Baptism enables us to imitate our heavenly Father by living a life
of reverence, respect and responsibility as Jesus did in the power of the Holy
Spirit. The Holy Spirit is our GPS, God’s powerful Spirit gracing and guiding us to
obey God and not the Devil.
As we strive to build a stronger family of faith in Jesus Christ through Catholic
worship, education and charity at Saint Mary Magdalen, I ask you to share with
your family, friends and strangers: “SMILE! God Loves you and so do I.” I guarantee this will bring Jesus out of you and others. Once there was a monastery
where the monks were miserable with each other and many began to leave.
They tried surveys and social media to get more monks, but all failed until they
invited an old monk from another monastery. The old monk interviewed each
one and after listening to their issues, he assured them that “Jesus is among you
in the monastery.” Then, the monks began to wonder who was the monk that
was Jesus among them, they began to treat each other with reverence, respect
and kindness and then many more monks joined them and a spirit of joy and
laughter filled their monastery.
Please pray and put on the Armor of God so that your family and our parish family may grow in love, mercy, peace and joy through the presence of Jesus in each
one of us.
In Jesus’ Holy Name, we pray to be clothed in the Armor of God.
ST. MARY MAGDALEN
BUILDING A FAMILY OF FAITH
WITH JESUS CHRIST, THROUGH
CATHOLIC WORSHIP,
EDUCATION AND CHARITY.
We place the Helmet of Salvation upon our heads.
The Belt of Truthfulness around our waist. The Breastplate of Justice on our
chest. The Shield of Faith in one hand, The Sword of The Holy Spirit In the other
hand, and The Foot gear of Zeal upon our feet.
That we may be strong in defending You, Lord & that Your Most Holy
& Divine Will be one with us.
Amen

HELP OUR PARISH WELCOME BACK INACTIVE PARISHIONER:
SMILE! GOD LOVE YOU AND SO DO I!
TUESDAY, JANUARY 13 AT 7:30 PM
At the end of the play, Camelot, King Arthur grows anxious that the dream of chivalry is over. Then, he hears a young
boy sing of the glory of the Knights of the Round Table and his desire to be one of them. We too need to share our
story as Catholic Christians so that we can share the gift of Jesus and salvation for the young and old who have grown
lukewarm. The parish, priests, deacons, leaders and I believe we have a vibrant and amazing faith family, but we can
be and do better for our inactive members. We need your continued recommendations and willingness to share the
story of Saint Mary Magdalen. We invite you to help understand through a survey we will be sending out and also we
ask you to pick up books, CD’s and other literature to help you share the peace and joy of belonging to a parish community. Above all, share with your family and friends “Why you continue to worship faithfully and how you are
blessed with the fruits of the Holy Spirit: love, peace, you, patience, kindness, mercy and chastity.”
All are welcome to an information and sharing meeting on Tuesday, January 13 at 7:30PM in St. Francis Hall, to further plan how we can visit or welcome inactive members to our home for area gatherings.
CHAMPIONS FOR CHRIST
The Champions for Christ Leadership Committee is a group of 7th and 8th
grade students who meet every Wednesday at lunch to discuss ideas to
improve our school. Currently, we are organizing a Race for Education to
raise money for technology improvements. We will have a fun pep rally, and lots of cool prizes for students who get
five or more people to sponsor them in the big race. We are hoping to get 100% participation from the school and
parish family of St. Mary Magdalen. Not only is the Champions for Christ Leadership Committee organizing this great
event, we are also learning about teamwork and working together as a faith –filled community. Please help us to
achieve our goal of raising funds by sponsoring a student. In return for your donation, we will pray for you and your
family.
CFC Member,

THANK YOU
Dear Monsignor Chieffo and parishioners
As a member of the leadership committee for champions for Christ at Saint Mary Magdalen School, I would like to
extend my gratitude for your generous support and to other parishioners. Your caring donation promotes our vision
statement and assists us in imagining, organizing, and carrying out a successful Champions for Christ campaign.
Our group has been meeting most Wednesdays during lunch to discuss ideas and learn the important of teamwork
and running a faith-filled campaign. We believe our committee can accomplish great things. It is our hope that the
funds raised will help us maintain our technology initiative and keep pace with the ever-advancing world, particularly
in the area of technology. Some improvements would involve the purchase of additional iPads for our student body
as well as applications to be used in the classroom.
Many thanks to you for assisting the team in reaching our goal and benefitting our school and parish community.
You will be remembered in our daily prayers and good works. We look forward to our run in May, 2015
With much thanks,
Brennan

GOSPEL SUMMARY
Read: Matthew: 2:1-12
“The family is the privileged setting where every person
learns to give and receive love…The family is an intermediate institution between individuals and society,
and nothing can completely take its place…The family
is a necessary good for people, an indispensable foundation for society and a great and lifelong treasure for
couples. It is a unique good for children, who are
meant to be the fruit of the love, of the total and generous self-giving of their parents…The family is also a
school which enables men and women to grow to the
full measure of their humanity…O God, who in the Holy
Family left us a perfect model of family life lived in
faith and obedience to your will, help us to be examples of faith and love for your commandments” (Pope
Benedict XVI)

Serenity prayer
God, Grant me the courage
To change the things
I can change,
The Serenity to accept those
I cannot change,
And the Wisdom to know the
difference.
Living one day at a time:
Enjoying one moment at a time:
Accepting hardships as the
pathway to peace;
Taking, as He did, this sinful world
As it is, not as I would have it:
Trusting that He will
make all things right
If I surrender to His Will;
That I may be reasonably happy
In this life and
supremely happy with Him
Forever in the next.
Amen
