I would like to thank Reuben, Mandy and their team for lifting the standard of food and service offered at Moruya Golf Club. Page 4 “Out of the Rough” CAPTAINS REPORT The 2014 Men’s Open was played on the weekend of 22nd & 23rd November with a field of only 100 starters on the Saturday, a significant decrease of 20% on last year which was very disappointing. The Open winner was Gavin Fitzgerald, no surprises there, with one of our up & coming juniors Josh Maloney taking out the B Grade trophy by a whopping 9 shots! The C Grade winner was Kevin Mitchell from the Yowie club. Congratulations to all winners including those who took out the daily prizes. The 2015 Pennant season will soon be on us with Division 1playing their first game in early February. I would like to thank all those players who put their hands up to play, we were in the embarrassing situation of having to knock a few back as teams this year have been reduced from 7 to 5 in Div.2 & Seniors. The teams are as follows: Division 1 Chris Giri (Capt) Brent Hull Matt Green Division 2 Mick Johnson (Capt) Col Stage Laurie Buckle Mick Johnston Steve Johnston Adrian Andy Mick Ganderton Rolly Halligan Gavin Fitzgerald Adam Shiels Ken Brown Jeff Millikin Senior Masters John Connolly (Capt) Richard Wharton Garry Wales Al Cowie Juniors Lachlan Ingram (Capt) Steve Mercer Cody Kirkwood Josh Maloney Michael Lynch Ivan Mylott Brad Corkery Riley Brown Girts Kalnins Our Juniors are busy practicing for their Encourage Shield playoffs in January, I am sure you will join me in wishing the boys all the best for the event, after all they have reached the top 4 teams in the state, a fantastic achievement. The weather has played havoc over the past two weekends resulting in the December Medal being cancelled this year which was to coincide with Gold Medal playoff & the final event in this year’s Eclectic. As a result both the latter two events will now be played in conjunction with the January Medal on 17th January. Congratulations to all of those who represented Moruya in the NARMORGUI this year. Moruya as we have all come to expect was solid throughout the three rounds blowing away all competition in our final home game to win the NARMORGUI for the second year in a row. Pictured below is Alex and Sue Wallenski who featured the best score 4bbb score in the final round as well as Team Captain Mick Wells. Have a safe & happy festive season & I hope to see you all next year. Have a Merry Christmas & until next time good golfing, Rob KIDS CHRISTMAS Akmal is headlining a plethora of great entertainment lined up at Moruya Golf Club to get you through the long hot summer. Tickets are $39, selling extremely fast and are available from reception now. A Quote from the Man himself and his family / psychologist. “Hello my name is Akmal and I’m a comedian, although the term comedian is open to interpretation and highly subjective. Believe it or not, many people don’t find me funny at all this includes members of my own family” Akmal Saleh “If Akmal thinks he’s funny, then I hope he’s seeing a physiatrist” Santa took time out of his busy schedule to visit Moruya Golf Club on Sunday to attend the Moruya Golf Club Members Children's Christmas Party. Santa bought those that were good all year early Christmas presents and sweetened the deal with lollie bags. Thank you to La Fontaine restaurant for their donation of snacks for the kids. Nabila Saleh “I don’t think he’s funny, in fact I find him rather annoying. Whenever I see him I get an overriding urge to punch him in the face” Steven Huntsman (Akmal’s Physiatrist) Page 6 “Out of the Rough” VETERAN AFFAIRS The Vets eventually got around to playing the raindelayed Allans Shield (our bi-annual grudge match) against Mollymook. Unfortunately the result was not the one we would have liked, going down to the visitors by a very slender margin, thus putting us even with the number of times each of us has won over the years. WINNERS ARE GRINNERS Our Patrons' Day was held on December 1st with Edith Jones and Stan Towers recording wins on the day. The event is sponsored by our Patrons / Life Members, Rusty Willcocks, Brian Davies, Audrey Fry and Trish Farrow. Through their generous donations we were able to allocate four prizes for both men and ladies. The wet weather saw our Xmas Golf / Lunch limited to just a very enjoyable lunch on Monday 8th December, together with the presentation of our Championship prizes. Our Vets Champions, Margaret Douglas and Ian Smith were both presented with vouchers donated by the sponsors of our Championships, Rob Green (our Pro) and his wife, Sharon. Following the presentations the Vets were entertained by our President, Ross Hosking, Assistant Treasurer, Shane Madden and Dennis Haynes who presented a skit called "The Green Eye Of The Little Yellow God" by J. Milton Hayes. The presentation was thoroughly enjoyed by all those present. Thanks for your effort boys, you'd better start rehearsing for a follow-up next year. Competition-wise, the year has drawn to a close for Veterans golf, but in closing I would like to express my appreciation to all those who supported our great little club by your attendance and acting as starters during the course of the year. I wish you all a very Merry Christmas, good health and even better golf in the New Year which kicks off on 19th January 2015. Congratulations Wayne Gorman on winning the Toro Lawn mower raffle. Thank you to all Members who contributed to raising funds for our course. These funds will be put towards a course improvement to be named early 2015. “Out of the Rough” LADIES LOCKER ROOM Page 7 LADIES MAJOR SPONSORS With Christmas fast approaching, I would like to extend my best wishes for a happy, healthy and safe festive season. I would also like to thank the committee for their time and effort in ensuring that our great game was enjoyable throughout 2014. From a personal point of view the support they have given me is much appreciated. The passing of Marie Alexander was a sad conclusion to the year. Marie has been a great helper who was always one of the first to volunteer. A special thank you to all of our sponsors, we really appreciate your support. I would also like to wish our Junior Pennant Team all the best for their upcoming playoffs in Newcastle in January. For this, I will give you a life span of twenty years." The dog said, "That's a long time to be barking. How about only ten years and I'll give you back the other ten?" And God saw it was good. For over 40 years Moruya Lions Club has been supporting your local Community, and this is the time of year we are most active raising money to support our many local charities. These activities include the following Monster Christmas Raffle and the sale of the famous Lions Xmas Cakes , tickets go on sale in Vulcan Street Moruya from 13th November. Christmas Wrapping for Customers at Harris Scarf from the 18th of December. Moruya Lions Club asks you all to support us in improving life in our great town, either by joining our Pride of Lions or supporting our fund raising activities. On behalf of The Moruya Lions Club have a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year On the second day, God created the monkey and said, "Entertain people, do tricks, and make them laugh. For this, I'll give you a twenty-year life span." The monkey said, "Monkey tricks for twenty years? That's a pretty long time to perform. How about I give you back ten like the dog did?" And God, again saw it was good. On the third day, God created the cow and said, "You must go into the field with the farmer all day long and suffer under the sun, have calves and give milk to support the farmer's family. For this, I will give you a life span of sixty years." The cow said, "That's kind of a tough life you want me to live for sixty years. How about twenty and I'll give back the other forty?" And God agreed it was good. On the fourth day, God created humans and said, "Eat, sleep, play, marry and enjoy your life. For this, I'll give you twenty years." But the human said, "Only twenty years? Could you possibly give me my twenty, the forty the cow gave back, the ten the monkey gave back, and the ten the dog gave back; that makes eighty, okay?" "Okay," said God, "You asked for it." So that is why for our first twenty years, we eat, sleep, play and enjoy ourselves. For the next forty years, we slave in the sun to support our family. For the next ten years, we do monkey tricks to entertain the grandchildren. And for the last ten years, we sit on the front porch and bark at everyone. Life has now been explained to you. There is no need to thank me for this valuable information. I'm doing it as a public service. If you are looking for me I will be sat on the front porch Courtesy Ray Shepherd Page 11 “Out of the Rough” FIXTURE PROGRAM JANUARY Date 1 Day Thurs Type Medley Event Pro Comp.
