Christmas / New Year Edition

Finally after a massive downpour of rain in December it seems to
have receded and we can all get back to the continuation of working on our golf games. Inside the Club there has been plenty of
action with a plethora of Christmas parties being catered for as
well as some massive ham raffle nights.

Even though it’s Christmas it doesn’t mean the Club will slow down
as there is a vast range of entertainment booked starting Christmas Eve with Tony Jaggers free at 6:30pm. There is also plenty of
entertainment for the kids or grandchildren as we have free Kids Karaoke on both New Years Eve and Wednesday January 7th from 4pm—7pm as well as Princesses of Pop on 5:30pm Friday January 23rd featuring a tribute to Pop idols Lady Gaga, Katy Perry and Rihanna. Also on New Years Eve we have the Jaggers and Sheean
Duo performing free from 8:30pm til late. Ticket sales have been booming for AKMAL performing at 8pm Sunday January 4th, tickets are $39 and it is predicted that this event will be a sell out so get in early to not miss
out. La Fontaine Restaurant will also be open this night so make a night of it and book your table for the restaurant for dinner at the same time as you book your tickets. Friday January 9th from 8:30pm see’s internationally renowned Jazz musician Pugsley Buzzard touring Moruya, tickets are great value for such a quality
performer selling at just $10 each. After the great success over the past few months of Karaoke Moruya Golf
Club will be hosting the Endless Summer Karaoke Party free on January 16th from 8pm. Moruya Golf Club will
also play host to the extremely well toned boys from Bondi The Sydney Hot Shots on Saturday January 17th
from 8:30pm. This show again will be a sell out as tickets are selling fast at this early stage.

November newsletter edition
Following the busy season, Moruya Golf Club will be hosting a monthly Comedy night on the last Saturday of
each month with the first scheduled for January 31st. Tickets to this will be $25 with $5 of each ticket sold
going to a different charity every month. January’s show will headline Sam McCool who was a finalist on Australia's got talent.
2015 Membership renewals have all been sent out via post and email. Thank you to Terry and Estelle Simmons, Noelene Cowdroy and Jan Louttit for stuffing over 1100 envelopes and ensuring these were sent out in a
timely fashion. If you have not received your renewal as yet please see or phone reception and we will ensure
that this is received. This year there has been a $55 Member bar levy included in which every full Member
upon payment will have $55 allocated to their bar account to be spent on bar products inclusive beer, wine,
soft drink, spirits, coffee and hot beverages, café and takeaway products. This money will be put on your account in the form of an e voucher and Members will have until January 31st 2016 to spend this.
For those who have not heard Moruya Golf Club will be changing caterers on February 22nd 2015. It is a sad
loss to see Reuben and Mandy leave us and their replacement will have big shoes to fill as the food has been of
such a great quality throughout their four years of service at Moruya Golf Club. An extensive search has been
compiled for a replacement with many promising applicants. Interviews are currently underway with a decision
to be made in the New Year of the worthy replacement. I would like to thank Reuben, Mandy and their team
for lifting the standard of food and service offered at Moruya Golf Club. La Fontaine will continue operation six
days per week over the holiday season closing on Sundays and public holidays with the one exception being
that the restaurant will be open Sunday 4th January for dinner.
Finally I would like to thank all the staff for all the hard yards they have put in this year commencing with the
course staff led by Brent who have maintained a course condition rivalled by all other south coast courses. I
would like to thank Rob and his team in the Pro Shop for their continued outstanding service to all Members
and visitors and look forward to improving my game in the new year under Rob’s tutelage. To Daffy, Dave,
John and Quinton our full time bar staff as well as Luke, Julie, Roy, Chris and Nick thank you for the friendly
prompt service provided to Members. I would like to thank Emma and Judy who have also joined us this year
on their efforts in events, Member Services and administration throughout the year. Finally I would like to
thank the rock of the office Leanne who’s service and dedication to the Club is exemplary and greatly admired.
On signing off for 2014 I would like to thank all you Members for your patronage and wish you all a sensational
and safe festive season. I would also like to wish the junior Pennant team the best of luck when they compete
in Newcastle in January representing Moruya and the far south coast in the state junior pennant encourage
shield finals.

MORUYA GOLF CLUB
From the Pres
Hi and Merry Xmas to all our MGC members
The Club.
Well our new CEO Ken Brown has settled into his new
role very well, the Board are very happy with the way
the club is going and happy with the innovation and
activities in the club over this initial 6 months and look
forward to bigger a better things to come.
Golf.
The rain we needed came and kept coming, yes it was
tough on golfers, the club, our fab Pro Shop team and
the course but there is nothing better than the lightning charged rain to bring on growth in all the greenery around our park, the few scars from the low lying
water will repair over the next few weeks.
Kids Karaoke is free and will be available in the golfers
lounge on December 31st and January 7th from 4pm to
7pm. Parental supervision is required.
Membership.
Just a reminder that membership renewals are now
being sent out, keep in mind our monthly payment
option which is being used by about 30% of members
speak to Emma on the front desk if you require any
help.
BAR Credit - Membership
Please note that all Full Golf Membership Fee includes
a $55 Bar CREDIT that can be used across the Bar or
for coffee shop or for takeaway.
NEW cart shed ….are you interested?
The Club is looking to build a new cart storage facility
(approx 20 cart units) in 2015. We aim to sell many
of the cart spaces on a 10 year agreement basis. One
upfront fee, with ownership lease for 10 years and
resale rights over that period.
Please let Ken know if you are interested… there are
no obligations just looking to get an idea of interest.
Location is most likely to be on part of the old 10th
fairway towards the new 10th tee area.
Club Bus
The Board has now purchased a new Bus a 12 seat
model and are looking for volunteer Members to consider doing the bus run a couple of times per year (2
afternoons/evenings) it is a general run to pick up patrons. No special license required. Please let our GM
Ken know.
Have a safe and happy festive season.
Cheers Greg

CAPTAINS REPORT
The 2014 Men’s Open was played on the weekend
of 22nd & 23rd November with a field of only 100
starters on the Saturday, a significant decrease of
20% on last year which was very disappointing.
The Open winner was Gavin Fitzgerald, no surprises
there, with one of our up & coming juniors Josh
Maloney taking out the B Grade trophy by a whopping 9 shots! The C Grade winner was Kevin Mitchell from the Yowie club. Congratulations to all winners including those who took out the daily prizes.
The 2015 Pennant season will soon be on us with
Division 1playing their first game in early February.
I would like to thank all those players who put their
hands up to play, we were in the embarrassing situation of having to knock a few back as teams this
year have been reduced from 7 to 5 in Div.2 & Seniors. The teams are as follows:
Division 1
Chris Giri (Capt)
Brent Hull
Matt Green
Division 2
Mick Johnson (Capt)
Col Stage
Laurie Buckle
Mick Johnston
Steve Johnston

Our Juniors are busy practicing for their Encourage
Shield playoffs in January, I am sure you will join me
in wishing the boys all the best for the event, after all
they have reached the top 4 teams in the state, a fantastic achievement.
The weather has played havoc over the past two
weekends resulting in the December Medal being cancelled this year which was to coincide with Gold Medal
playoff & the final event in this year’s Eclectic. As a
result both the latter two events will now be played in
conjunction with the January Medal on 17th January.
Congratulations to all of those who represented
Moruya in the NARMORGUI this year. Moruya as we
have all come to expect was solid throughout the
three rounds blowing away all competition in our final
home game to win the NARMORGUI for the second
year in a row. Pictured below is Alex and Sue Wallenski who featured the best score 4bbb score in the final
round as well as Team Captain Mick Wells.
Have a safe & happy festive season & I hope to see
you all next year.

KIDS CHRISTMAS
Akmal is headlining a plethora of great entertainment lined up at Moruya Golf Club to get
you through the long hot summer. Tickets are
$39, selling extremely fast and are available
from reception now.
A Quote from the Man himself and his family /
psychologist.
“Hello my name is Akmal and I’m a comedian,
although the term comedian is open to interpretation and highly subjective. Believe it or
not, many people don’t find me funny at all this includes members of my own family”
Akmal Saleh
“If Akmal thinks he’s funny, then I hope he’s
seeing a physiatrist”
Santa took time out of his busy schedule to visit Moruya
Golf Club on Sunday to attend the Moruya Golf Club Members Children's Christmas Party. Santa bought those that
were good all year early Christmas presents and sweetened the deal with lollie bags. Thank you to La Fontaine
restaurant for their donation of snacks for the kids.
Nabila Saleh
“I don’t think he’s funny, in fact I find him rather annoying. Whenever I see him I get an
overriding urge to punch him in the face”
Steven Huntsman (Akmal’s Physiatrist)

VETERAN AFFAIRS
The Vets eventually got around to playing the raindelayed Allans Shield (our bi-annual grudge match)

the one we would have liked, going down to the visitors

number of times each of us has won over the years.

JOKE OF THE
MONTH
On the first day, God created the dog and said, "Sit all day
by the door of your house and bark at anyone who comes in
or walks past.
For this, I will give you a life span of twenty years."
The dog said, "That's a long time to be barking.
How about only ten years and I'll give you back the other
ten?"
And God saw it was good.
For over 40 years Moruya Lions Club has
been supporting your local Community, and
this is the time of year we are most active
raising money to support our many local
charities. These activities include the following
Monster Christmas Raffle and the sale of the
famous Lions Xmas Cakes , tickets go on
sale in Vulcan Street Moruya from 13th November.
Christmas Wrapping for Customers at Harris
Scarf from the 18th of December.
Moruya Lions Club asks you all to support us
in improving life in our great town, either by
joining our Pride of Lions or supporting our
fund raising activities.
On behalf of The Moruya Lions Club have a
very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year
On the second day, God created the monkey and said,
"Entertain people, do tricks, and make them laugh.
For this, I'll give you a twenty-year life span."
The monkey said, "Monkey tricks for twenty years?
That's a pretty long time to perform.
How about I give you back ten like the dog did?"
And God, again saw it was good.
On the third day, God created the cow and said,
"You must go into the field with the farmer all day long
and suffer under the sun, have calves and give milk to support the farmer's family.
For this, I will give you a life span of sixty years."
The cow said, "That's kind of a tough life you want me to
live for sixty years. How about twenty and I'll give back the
other forty?"
And God agreed it was good.
On the fourth day, God created humans and said,
"Eat, sleep, play, marry and enjoy your life. For this, I'll
give you twenty years."
But the human said, "Only twenty years?
Could you possibly give me my twenty, the forty the cow
gave back,
the ten the monkey gave back,
and the ten the dog gave back; that makes eighty, okay?"
"Okay," said God, "You asked for it."
So that is why for our first twenty years, we eat, sleep, play
and enjoy ourselves.
For the next forty years, we slave in the sun to support our
family.
For the next ten years, we do monkey tricks to entertain the
grandchildren. And for the last ten years, we sit on the
front porch and bark at everyone.
Life has now been explained to you.
There is no need to thank me for this valuable information.
I'm doing it as a public service.
If you are looking for me I will be sat on the front porch
