On Saturday, December 13, St. Brigid of Kildare's two deacon-candidates, Paul Zemanek and Steve Petrill received their next step toward ordination as a deacon. Bishop Campbell conferred upon them the Ministry of Lector at the 5:15 p.m. Mass as Saint Joseph Cathedral on Saturday, along with the 10 other deacon-candidates from our diocese. The candidates receive the Ministry of Lector after they petition and are selected for the next step following the completion of the second year of formation. Besides continuing in their studies, the candidates will also take part in a two-year internship at a neighboring parish assigned by the Bishop with the help of local pastors, deacons, and the candidate screening committee. Paul has been assigned to St. Peter Catholic Church in Columbus. Steve has been assigned to St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church in Powell. This ministry calls them to be servants of the Living Word of God. In proclaiming the readings at Mass and other liturgies, the reader does more than simply read. Those who exercise the Ministry of Lector must be truly suited and carefully prepared, so that the faithful may develop a warm and living love for Sacred Scripture from listening to the sacred reading. BRIGID OF KILDARE CHURCH DUBLIN, OHIO RELIGIOUS EDUCATION...St. Brigid of Kildare Religious Education Program offers opportunities to allow parishioners to improve their knowledge and practice of Catholicism. Through year-long classes for students preschool through grade eight, high school youth ministry, seasonal studies, speakers, Bible Study, and specific courses offered on site for adults, all parishioners are encouraged to know and share the truths of our Catholic faith. Two words describe appropriate tasks for this week: Celebrate and Evaluate! Still in the “Christmas Spirit”, continuing to count “The Twelve Days of Christmas”, and/or planning for New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day, there are multiple reasons and ways to continue to celebrate! Approaching New Year’s Eve, however, it is also a good time to “evaluate.” Do you even remember last year’s New Year’s Resolutions? How did you do? Did you quit smoking, or keep on your diet? Are you and your family participating in Mass EVERY Sunday and Holy Day of Obligation? Are you still taking time to pray each day? Did you learn one more thing about our Catholic faith? Each day is a new day, a new opportunity, twenty-four more hours to remember, to reflect, to return to those resolutions or to re-evaluate, restore, or rewrite! So as you celebrate New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day, look back and look forward! As Dag Hammarskjold so eloquently summed it up, “For all that has been, thanks! To all that will be, yes!” Religious Education Classes resume their regular schedule beginning Sunday, January 4, 2015! Welcome back! Bishop Watterson High School Save the Date!
