YMCA CAMP ONYAHSA
YEAR ROUND YOUTH PROGRAMS, FAMILY ACTIVITIES, AND
RENTAL OPPORTUNITIES!
YMCA Camp Onyahsa will celebrate its 117th
summer of promoting excellence in youth
development in 2015! As we get ready for a new
era, Onyahsa will offer several year-round quality
programs and unique site rental opportunities
through the year; all focused on serving safe,
healthy, and happy campers!
In 2015, Onyahsa will continue to offer monthly
youth overnight weekend camps during the
school year, from January through May for youth
ages 7 to 13. Family Camp will be offered during
the weekend of May 30 to 31. These programs
are based in our heated facilities and offer indoor
and outdoor camp programs, appropriate to the
season.
As we move forward, safety, health, and
happiness will continue to be the hallmarks of
our school-year campouts, summer day camp,
summer overnight programs, Teen Camp and
leadership activities!
SUMMER 2015 AT CAMP ONYAHSA
A great summer of resident (ages 7-15) and day
(ages 5-10) camping will begin on June 14, and
will run for nine weeks. This summer’s theme will
be “Back to the Future” as each week looks to the
big 1980s for program inspiration.
The summer youth program will conclude with
Mini-Camp for ages 5-10 from August 9-12 and
an additional full week for Teens and LITs. Preregistration discounts are available to those who
register by January 31, 2015.
Onyahsa is accredited by the American Camp
Association and has highly dedicated, competent,
and caring staff. The Camp experience is made
possible through the generous support of our
donors and fundraising activities. These events
include the third annual Big Fish Triathlon to
be held June 6 and our long-standing semiformal Dinner Dance, which raises funds
for our scholarship program, scheduled for
early November. Contributions for our camp
scholarship opportunities are being accepted
through our “Youth Development” fund drive.

programs, activities, and rental opportunities,

Jamestown Area YMCA Winter/Spring Program Guide
ONYAHSA PLANS FANTASTIC FUTURE FUND DRIVE
Established in 1898, Camp Onyahsa will launch
a $3 million effort in early 2015 to implement
its long-range Development Plan, which calls
for the upgrade and winterization of many of its
lakefront facilities to meet the dynamic needs
of our community. Most importantly, private,
environmentally-responsible restroom facilities
will be added within or nearby all lodging.
Another $500,000 is required to create
a property fund to maintain, protect, and
eventually replace facilities in the distant future.
Central to our mission, we also plan to create a
$1 million endowed scholarship fund to ensure
the Camp experience is possible for every child,
regardless of family income.
The Y Camp will seek the support of stakeholders
to fund this major effort. Individuals may
pledge support over three years, and unique
and perpetual naming opportunities exist for
small and large gifts. By 2019, the Camp plans
to engage in property protection to protect its
beautiful facility for generations to come.
Outmoded facilities like the central bath house
will be replaced and new waterfront program
areas will be added. We’ll also complete the
Youth Fitness Center, expand winter lodging,
improve infrastructure, add more challenge
course elements, and seek to acquire crucial
property. Approximately $1.5 million is planned
for these renovations.

MIDDLE SCHOOL ACADEMY
This is a FREE program dedicated to middle school
students in 5th to 8th grade. We have a lot of fun
but our focus is on preparing Jamestown students for
high school and future success.
Why are we called an “Academy”?
• Homework help is available every day
• Staff led enrichment activities support learning in
the school
How to register:
Registration forms are available at the Jamestown Y
and at the Eastside Y. Students who fill out the
registration form including a health history are
eligible to attend.
What kinds of things do we do?
When students are not receiving homework help they
are participating in enrichment activities intended
to develop academic skills, develop character, and
form positive attitudes towards learning. Every day
after school the Middle School Academy is combining
fun activities with learning. At the Middle School
Academy learning happens during fun activities like
art classes, fun games, building activities, acting
classes and science activities.
Why should my child attend?
1. Kids can get homework help from expert tutors.
2. It is a safe place for kids to be after school.
3. Free snack daily
4. We build solid foundations for future learning.
5. ESL students receiving transportation to Jefferson
can be dropped off each day.
6. Have fun with good friends and a caring staff!

SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY
GIVING BACK AND PROVIDING SUPPORT TO OUR NEIGHBORS
MAN IN THE MIRROR/MEN OF CANCER SUPPORT GROUP
FREE to all cancer patients, survivors, care givers and
MEDITATION
loved ones.
On the third Thursday of every month, the recently
merged Man in the Mirror and Men of Meditation
groups meet to have a time of fellowship and Bible
study. Discussion items revolve around men’s issues
from a Christian perspective.
The group meets at the Jamestown YMCA for one
hour from 12:00–1:00 pm and includes lunch. Often
we watch a video and have discussion, but from time
to time, a local speaker presents a lesson. We are
currently watching video segments from the Tony
Evans series.
This is open to all men and is a great way to engage
in thought-provoking Christian study.
We strive to create an atmosphere where those
suffering can find comfort and support through not
only conversations and healing moments with other
warriors, but also through information provided by
guest speakers regarding programs and services
available to help you or your loved one successfully
progress in spirit, mind, and body.
Held the third Thursday of each month beginning
January 15 at Immanuel Lutheran Church (Library) in
Jamestown.

YOUTH PROTECTION GUIDELINES
WORKING TOGETHER TO PROTECT OUR CHILDREN
The following information is important for the safety and protection of your child. The YMCA considers anyone
under 12 years of age as a child.
1. Parents can help ensure their child’s safety by taking an active interest in his or her YMCA experience. Parents
are encouraged to monitor volunteer and staff* interactions with their child and ask their child specific questions
about program activities and volunteer or staff relationships with their child. Parents are encouraged to report any
unusual behavior to the YMCA CEO.
2. Staff are not permitted to have any contact with children outside the Y who they have met through a YMCA
program. This includes transporting, babysitting and any form of personal electronic communication. Exceptions
may be granted on a case by case basis and must be pre-approved by the CEO.
3. To ensure the safety of all children, parents need to be available for children to supervise their activity in the
bathrooms and locker rooms with the exception of participation in licensed child care or day camp & resident camp
programs, swim team or Eastside Youth Center.
4. Parents are expected to escort their children to and from program areas. Children should not be dropped off or
picked up at the door. Individuals under the age of 18 years of age are not permitted to loiter.
5. For the safety of all children, a person arriving to pick up a child who appears to be under the influence of drugs
or alcohol will be reported to the police.
6. The YMCA is mandated by state law to report any suspected cases of child abuse or neglect to the appropriate
authorities for investigation.
7. The YMCA prohibits registered sex offenders from membership privileges.
*an example of a YMCA volunteer is a sports coach or tutor; an example of a staff member is a group leader in a day camp program.

“IN TOUCH” MASSAGE THERAPY SERVICE
Massage therapy spans a wide variety of therapeutic approaches which work to improve an individual’s health and
well-being through the manipulation of muscles and other soft tissues of the body. Massage therapy is designed to
enhance blood flow to soft tissues and facilitate the removal of metabolic wastes from the muscle tissue. For many,
massage has the added benefits of reducing mental stress and reducing anxiety levels. Massage is considered to be
among the oldest of all treatments used by man. Massage provides relief to people from all walks of life: the weekend
or competitive athlete, the home gardener, or the overstressed executive struggling to keep pace in today’s economy.
Today, massage is an accepted part of many physical rehabilitation programs and has proven a benefit to many chronic
conditions such as low back pain, arthritis, shoulder and neck pain, and carpal tunnel, among others. Contact Sandra
Anderson, NCTMB, LMT at 664-2802 ext. 229 to book your appointment.
