PLACEMENT OF WASTE
• Place your collectible materials at the curbside on or adjacent to your driveway. Do not place collectible materials on the road, as it may pose a
hazard to vehicular traffic
• Keep your waste materials separate from your neighbour’s
• To ensure collection crews can clearly identify the type of materials set out for collection, clearly separate each waste stream (i.e. blue box,
green bin, garbage and leaf and yard)
• Winter Placement: During heavy snowfalls where snow ploughing operations will be required, place collectible materials on the RIGHT side of the
driveway and set back approximately 0.9 m (3 ft.) from the curbside. The RIGHT side of the driveway is defined as the right side when standing at
the curb facing the house. This will reduce the possibility of waste materials being damaged and/or buried by snow during snow ploughing operations.
Do not place waste materials on roads or behind/on top of snowbanks

We Left it Behind Because...
THERE ARE A NUMBER OF REASONS WHY WASTE MATERIALS MAY BE LEFT BEHIND BY OUR COLLECTION CONTRACTOR.
ALTHOUGH THIS MAY BE UPSETTING, IT IS IMPORTANT TO REMEMBER
THAT THERE IS OFTEN A GOOD REASON WHEN MATERIALS ARE NOT COLLECTED.
COMMON REASONS FOR REFUSED COLLECTIONS ARE:
• Bags/containers over the 3 item garbage limit (every other week)
without a paid garbage tag affixed to them
• Non-collectible waste (i.e. hazardous waste, construction/renovation
waste, car parts, sod, soil, etc.)
• Overweight item. Weight exceeds 20.4 kg (45 lbs.)
• Materials placed in oversized or improper containers
• Cardboard is not flattened and bundled and/or cardboard exceeds
0.6 m x 0.6 m x 0.3 m (2 ft x 2 ft x 1 ft)
• Rigid leaf and yard container is unmarked and/or lid has not been removed
• Excessive contamination or non recyclable materials in the blue box,
green bin or leaf and yard waste container
• Overflowing waste containers
Styrofoam
COMMON REASONS FOR MISSED COLLECTIONS ARE:
• Items not out by 7 a.m.
• Items hidden or not accessible .(i.e. behind hedges, buried in,
on top of or behind snowbanks, etc.)
• Items placed too far back from the curb
• Materials not scheduled for collection that day/week
• Access issues (i.e. construction activity, private landscapers)

Winter Road Maintenance
SNOW CLEARING OPERATIONS - ROADS
As police, fire and ambulance services rely on clear roads to respond quickly to emergencies, the
City has a priority system for all winter operations. Roads are maintained in the following order:
• Primary roads (high volume traffic)
• Secondary roads (low volume traffic)
• Rear laneways
When salting operations become ineffective
(usually after 5 cm/2 in. accumulation),
ploughing operations will begin. It is our
goal to plough all City roads in less than
16 hours from the end of a snowfall.

SIDEWALK SNOW CLEARING
You are reminded to clear the public sidewalk adjoining your property of ice and snow within
24 hours after a snowfall. To assist you during periods of HEAVY snowfall, the City operates a
sidewalk snow ploughing program. However, this does not alleviate your obligations under the
by-law to ensure the public sidewalk is kept in a safe manner.
Reminders
• Please do not park vehicles on the road during salting and ploughing operations. Police and/or
the City's by-law officers will tag and/or tow vehicles blocking road ploughing/salting operations
• It is against the law to place snow or ice on the public road
• You are not permitted to construct curbing or other such encroachments on City property
These encroachments pose a hazard to snow plough operators. The City does not repair
damage to curbs or other similar encroachments that are situated on City property
• As a result of windrow clearing operations, scratches and minor damage may occur to the
driveway. You are reminded that the City does not repair such damage
