Series Brochure - The Lakeland Center

Dear Friends,
Forty years ago, City of Lakeland leaders had the dream
and determination to build what locals came to call the
“White House,” a formidable entertainment fortress with
towering white supports built upon a natural rise just a few
steps from downtown. After several years of hard work and
community support, this progressive vision unveiled
Florida’s first entertainment complex, The Lakeland Center,
providing a landmark destination for America’s most iconic
performers including Elvis, Johnny Cash, KISS, ZZ TOP, U2,
Bruce Springsteen and the list goes on. Since 1974, The
Lakeland Center has been the center of Florida’s rich
cultural heritage and our steadfast “White House” façade
has greeted millions of cheering fans.
We invite you to join our 40th Anniversary celebration with
the renewal of your subscription series. Without the
support of our patrons and longtime partners, The Ledger
Media Group and The City of Lakeland, the upcoming
season would not be possible.
In addition to our exciting Entertainment and Broadway Series
subscription packages outlined in the first few pages of this
brochure, the 2014-2015 season offers an exceptional list of
special engagement performances. As a subscriber you
receive the added benefit of receiving the best seats first on
any special engagement purchase. Be sure to pre-order your
tickets now for great performances with Last Comic
Standing, Mannheim Steamroller, Cirque Dreams Holidaze,
Don Williams, Rhythm of the Dance and so many more!
CENTER STAGE CAFÉ is a great way to make your evening
at The Lakeland Center a showstopper! Seating is limited
and we recommend ordering advance tickets for added
convenience.
Thank you again for your continued support of The Lakeland
Center and our series subscription packages. Our dedicated
Box Office staff is ready to process your orders and assist with
any questions. Our 40th Anniversary is reason to celebrate
and we invite our fans to join the season-long party!
Sincerely,
Michael R. LaPan

MONDAY, DECEMBER 29~7:30 PM
GUYS AND DOLLS the oddball romantic comedy - considered by many to be the perfect musical comedy - soars with the spirit of
Broadway as it introduces us to a cast of vivid characters who have become legends in the canon: Sarah Brown, the upright but
uptight "mission doll," out to reform the evildoers of Times Square; Sky Masterson, the slick, high-rolling gambler who woos her on
a bet and ends up falling in love; Adelaide, the chronically ill nightclub performer whose condition is brought on by the fact she's
been engaged to the same man for 14 years; and Nathan Detroit, her devoted fiancé, desperate as always to find a spot for his
infamous floating craps game makes GUYS AND DOLLS a night of Broadway that can’t be beat!
MONDAY, JANUARY 5~7:30 PM
SISTER ACT is Broadway's feel-amazing musical comedy smash! The New York Post calls it "RIDICULOUSLY FUN,” and audiences
are jumping to their feet in total agreement! Featuring original music by 8-time Oscar® winner ALAN MENKEN (Beauty and the Beast,
The Little Mermaid, Little Shop of Horrors), SISTER ACT tells the story of Deloris Van Cartier, a wannabe diva whose life takes a surprising turn when she witnesses a crime and the cops hide her in the last place anyone would think to look — a convent! Under
the suspicious watch of Mother Superior, Deloris helps her fellow sisters find their voices as she unexpectedly rediscovers her own.
A sparkling tribute to the universal power of friendship, SISTER ACT is reason to REJOICE!
WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 4~7:30 PM
MILLION DOLLAR QUARTET is the Tony® award-winning Broadway musical, inspired by the electrifying true story of the famed recording session
that brought together rock ‘n’ roll icons Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis and Carl Perkins for the first and only time. On December 4,
1956, these young musicians were gathered together by Sam Phillips, the “Father of Rock ’n’ Roll,” at Sun Records in Memphis for what would
be one of the greatest jam sessions of all time. MILLION DOLLAR QUARTET brings that legendary night to life with an irresistible tale of broken
promises, secrets, friendships and celebrations featuring timeless hits including “Blue Suede Shoes,” “That’s All Right,” “Sixteen Tons,” “Great
Balls of Fire,” “I Walk the Line,” “Whole Lotta Shakin’ Goin’ On,” “See Ya Later, Alligator,” “Fever,” “Folsom Prison Blues,” “Hound Dog” and more.
THURSDAY, MARCH 19~7:30 PM
“Goin’ courting” has never been as much fun as in this rip-roaring stage version of the popular MGM movie. Set in Oregon in 1850,
SEVEN BRIDES FOR SEVEN BROTHERS tells the story of Milly, a young bride living in the 1850's Oregon wilderness. Her plan to civilize
and marry off her six rowdy brothers-in-law to ensure the success of her own marriage backfires when the brothers, in their
enthusiasm, kidnap six women from a neighboring town to be their brides. Bursting with the rambunctious energy of the original
film, SEVEN BRIDES FOR SEVEN BROTHERS is boisterous fun and romance that harkens back to the glory days of the movie musical.
MONDAY, MARCH 30~7:30 PM The pop culture phenomenon of FLASHDANCE is now live on stage. With electrifying
dance at its core, FLASHDANCE-THE MUSICAL tells the inspiring and unforgettable story of Alex Owens, a Pittsburgh steel mill
welder by day and a bar dancer by night with dreams of one day becoming a professional performer. When romance with her steel
mill boss threatens to complicate her ambitions, Alex learns the meaning of love and its power to fuel the pursuit of her dream.
FLASHDANCE-THE MUSICAL features a score that includes the biggest hit songs from the movie, including the Academy Awardwinning title song "Flashdance - What a Feeling," "Maniac," "Gloria," "Manhunt," and "I Love Rock & Roll." In addition to these
hits, 16 brand new songs have been written for the musical with music by Robbie Roth and lyrics by Robert Cary and Roth.
