Unique Selling Point: 3 billion euros invested by the school-building authorities in Hamburg + 2 billion euros invested by the school-building authorities in Munich Members of the Danish press in conversation TARGET GROUP OF VISITORS In 2014, nearly 2,000 architects, planners (including fire protection engineers and interior designers), façade design companies and interior design groups, project developers and construction companies, building and school authorities, headmasters and facility managers, component manufacturers and construction service providers, investors, PPP investors, district managers, school budget managers and school building manufacturers, and school procurement authorities attended the Schulbau Trade Fair. Architects 71 % | Investors 10 % | Senior Educators 8 % | Tradespeople 6 % | Headmasters 3 % | Other 2 % A SUCCESSFUL SCHULBAU 2014 TOTAL NETWORKING IN HAMBURG The second SCHULBAU Trade Fair on 13/14 May 2014 in Hamburg was a complete success. Nearly 2,000 professional visitors from all over Germany came and took an active part in the top-class panel discussions and lectures on practical topics such as lighting design, acoustics, ventilation and fire protection. / Sabine Natebus 1/ 2/ “The concept of bringing together all those involved in building schools in a communicative and relaxed atmosphere has been a complete success,” summed up organiser and project manager Kirsten Jung and Martin Jung from Cubus Medien Verlag. SBH | Schulbau, the Hamburg School Construction Authority, which awarded the budget of two billion euros in individual orders, was represented at the fair by a delegation of about 70 people alone. Even school building managers from other German states used this year‘s SCHULBAU Trade Fair at MagnusHall to network with exhibitors, architects and engineers. One advantage for the planners was that the event, with its detailed lecture series, could be counted towards professional development by many architectural and engineering associations. The “speed dating” programme has been very well received by both architects and educators alike. The individual half-hour tours guided participants to selected exhibitors. More than 70 exhibitors presented trends and innovations in educational building this year. The range of products spanned from acoustic elements on floor coverings, colours, wood construction and furniture to sanitary facilities, security and locking technology. For the first time, many architects registered as booth exhibitors alongside component manufacturers from Germany and our partner countries, Denmark and Finland. Reiner Nagel, Chairman of the Federal Foundation of Baukultur Potsdam, who gave the opening speech, also took plenty of time for matchmaking. According to his assessment presented to the 3/ trade fair, school and educational facilities are bound by architectural culture to a certain extent. At the fore of other presentations were topics such as the collaboration between educators and architects (“Phase Zero”), and issues of fire protection, lighting design, ventilation and acoustics in school buildings. In addition, Finland and Denmark presented attractive collective pavilions with pioneering architecture and educational concepts. The lectures given by the exhibitors were also very well attended. Innovative Trade Fair Catering For this year‘s SCHULBAU Trade Fair, four notable Hamburg catering companies were invited; these companies’ products specialise in the preparation of school meals. The idea of combining the catering at the show with the presentation of school canteen options was a resounding success. On both days, the selected school caterer won over visitors and exhibitors with their organic and regional ingredients, fresh and original preparation, and healthy, delicious food. In-Depth SCHULBAU Magazine The Germany-wide trade fair brought together key players from the educational construction sector and invited total networking at all levels of school construction. The SCHULBAU Magazine was also published for the fair, accompanying and delving deeper into this theme through quarterly publications. 1 / Panel discussions and lectures were well attended. 2 / Opening discussion with Päivi Kaarina Kataikko, Professor Jörn Walter, Ewald Rowohlt, Volker Halbach, Kay Stöck and Professor Jan R. Krause (left to right). SCHULBAU Trade Fair 2015 In 2015, the SCHULBAU Trade Fair will be held on 22 and 23 April, once again in MagnusHall in Hamburg, with partner countries Denmark, Finland and the Netherlands participating. In addition, two billion euros will now be provided for school construction in Munich - reason enough for the trade fair to present the successful concept of the Schulbau Trade Fair in southern Germany as well; this will be held on 11 and 12 November 2015. The partner countries here are France, Italy, Austria and Switzerland.
